This is William Dana, #262 in E E Dana's THE DANA FAMILY IN AMERICA. A housewright, he married Mary Bancroft in 1770 and had 11 children, six of his sons leaving descendants. Capt. Dana moved from the Boston area to New Hampshire in 1780 because of financial difficulties caused by the war. In 1788 he went to Marietta, OH, with his two oldest sons (only 15 and 13 at the time), built brick kilns, and began producing bricks in Ohio. The next year he settled his family in Belpre, "12 miles below Marietta."
