Stephen Walker (previously De Marcheterre)?

When I saw the thread on "DitMarcheterre/Walker" of Clinton, NY I thought it could be a lead.

My grandfather was Stephen Eugene Walker b. 1874 Bradford, PA d. 1918 Knox County, IL. His obit state his dad was Stephen Walker, born in France, who died when Stephen E. was 8, so around 1866.

I guessed at the spelling, De Marcheterre, being told as a child that the name was changed somewhere in PA to Walker. There are no living ancestors on that side, so I have only this very limited info.

Does anyone have any thoughts, or suggestions? I'm new to Ancestry.com

Thank you!

Could "Dit Marcheterre" be the surname I should trace.
