I have also seen Claus as Charles in U.S. Census records. As for parents I have a Peter and Christina Anderson born 1806 and 1808 respectively. Not sure of other siblings but they probably did have others. The parents were the last ones to come over, but they were in the U.S. in 1880.

sorry, no direct matches on the EMIBAS DVD. I even tried to search with birth 184X and emigration 186X, with Kla and Cla to cover all the different ways of spelling Claes as well as using both last names. What makes it more tricky is that they left before 1880 so I cannot look them up on the DVD "Swedish population 1880" either.

Do you know if he and/or his brother had any second first names? Names of parents, siblings?

Hopefully I'll find something over here sometime. Do you think you could look up a different ancestor out of Sweden, please? His name was Claus Linquist Peterson, born November 1, 1848, in Vastergotland, Sweden. Emigrated from Vastergotland in 1868 to Illinois. His brother Alex then came over the following year. I just don't know where exactly he was from and so I can't really look myself without having to go through tons of pages.

I would really like to advice you again not to go any further down the line on this family until you know for sure that the Sven Gustaf I found is your Charles Freeberg. The name change is just too great without a confirmation or some indication from the US records.

I did however look into what you found. You would need to follow the trace from the birth records onto the censuses, then keep searching through each book/year but this is where it changes from "just" Gustaf to Sven Gustaf
----------------------------------
Adelöv AI:13 (1851-1859) Bild 124 / sid 101 (AID: v18745.b124.s101, NAD: SE/VALA/00001)

Gustafs mother has married

Anders Magnus Johansson, b. 26 JUN 1816 in Adelöv, Jönköpings län, Småland
Maja Stina Johansdotter, b. 19 DEC 1924 in Ödeshög?
I looked in the Swedish church records for the birth records of the father today and on his birth records he shows up as just Gustaf. However on the birth records of his children he is indeed Sven Gustaf. I just can't seem to figure this one out. Attached are the birth records of Sven Gustaf and Ida Mathilda. I'm not so great at reading Swedish, but maybe you could make more sense out of them?

True. I haven't exactly gotten everything together for that portion of the family, so I don't know what all I have informationwise. I'll probably have to take you up on that offer if I do find anything else that could be helpful. Unfortunately Carl's wife is dead in the earliest records I have for the family so I only have his second wife that he married once he was in America.

Hi,

Well, the one thing that is not matching up is that the father is named Sven/Swan and not Karl/Carl/Charles which is quite a big one. Don't settle for this family until you have more proof.

What you can do is ask living relatives if they have any information like old photos with scribbles on them like names, places etc. The people who emigrated usually kept in contact with the people "back home" so someone might have kept letters. Or you can try to find their death certificates, which hopefully holds information of their dob, or even their neutralisation papers

I did search for Axel Emil Danielsson and all sorts of combinations without any direct matches. The problem is that Axel and Emil are both quite common names so it just returned too many results. I also searched for born 187X and emigrated 189X but that again gave too many results, non of which showed the last name Danielsson.

To find these people and where they came from is not impossible at all, you just need to find a bit more information in the US first.

Let me know if you find any more information and I'll take another look for you.

Anna

Thank you very much for looking. I don't have too much information other than the information I gave before, but I do know Carl/Charles's middle name was Gustav so that seems to match up. I also have looked at the 1895 Minnesota State Census I have that has the family and found the ages to match up with the birthdates of these individuals. I do remember looking at the census now and determining that it was Oscar and not Anson as it was indexed, so that also matches. I have not seen Anna in any records I have found, but she would have been old enough to be out of the house at the time of my earliest records of the family in America.

I'm not sure that this is enough to definitively say that this is the family but it certainly does seem to line up on multiple levels?

So I take it you didn't have much luck with finding Axel Danielson?

Hi,

I had a look at the Swedish emigration DVD, EMIBAS and the only direct hit that I got on Ida Mathilda was the following which I checked at the online church books archives http://www.arkivdigital.net/

The family may have changed their last name after arrival.

So....
Karl Emil Wisell, born June 7 1868 in Kumla, Örebro, was the son of Karl Viktor Wisell (b. Oct 16 1841) and Louisa Albertina Andersdotter (b. Feb 11 1845)
and
Ida Adolfina Alexandra Karlsson, born Dec 4 1868 in Askersund, Örebro , was the daughter of Karl Victor Jansson ( Mar 6 1829) and Anna Louisa Jansdotter (Aug 4 1826)
Karl and Ida were married in Askersund on Sept 22 1890.

Agnes Adolfina Alexandra Wisell was born in Kumla Nov 1 1890.

It should be reasonably easy to take both families back at least another generation or two, if not more. For instance, the birth records for Askersund go back to 1684 and the HH examinations-like a census record - go back to 1752)

I could try to find them for you, but wouldn't you rather do it yourself? And have copies of the parish records for your tree? Not to mention filling in the names and birth dates of siblings. The records are available on Ancestry and really aren't that hard to decipher. (And Bless the Swedes - they put birthdates on just about everything!)
I can send you links to the pages if you'd like to help you get started.

Jo Murphy
Re: DANIELSON ~ Rusten, Kalmar, Sweden

Daniel Persson, born Apr 23 1821 was the son of Pehr Olsson (b Apr 20 1796) and Sara Larsdotter (b Aug 18 1792)
he married Caroline Elisabeth Eriksdotter on Dec 11 1879.
Caroline, born May 20 1851, was the daughter of Erik Persson (b May 10 1822) and Brita Stina Larsdotter (b Mar 8 1817)

They had 4 children:
Per Emil Conrad b. Apr 2 1880
Ernst Albin Jonathan b May 25 1882
Daniel Gotfrid Julius b. July 8 1885
Ammy Sabina Sofia b Sept 25 1891 (Yep, Daniel was 70 and Caroline was 40 when Ammy was born. Their ages are recorded on the parish record)

All found in the Runsten Kalmar parish records.
BTW - I think that what looks like 'henning' or 'hemmingaard' was an occupation, not a name. On his birth record he is simply listed as 'Daniel'.

Hope this helps,

J Murphy
