William Ira Dannar, 83, of Columbia died Saturday, Jan. 23 1999, at his home.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, at Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Webb officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Nilson Funeral Home.
Mr. Dannar was born Jan. 6 1916 in McFall to Elie and Emma Wilson Dannar.
He married Luci Moore on Nov. 30 1946, in Columbia, and she survives.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and served 18 months in the European Theater. He was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge and won several military awards.
Before retirement he was a building and grounds supervisor for Columbia College and Woodhaven Learning Center. He helped organize the Boone County Volunteer Fire Department and was active in many community church and school activities. He was also a special deputy for the sheriffs department. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors also include four daughters, Kathe Brady of Mexico, Mo., Klara Dannar of Ann Arbor, Mich., Kristy Leath of Fort Worth, Texas, and Kelli Black of Flower Mound, Texas; three brothers, Curtis Dannar of Oregon, Raymond Dannar of Kansas City, and Donald Dannar of Yuma, Ariz.; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Deva, and infant daughter, a sister, and a brother.
