I wonder if your husband and I might not be related. My father is Roy Dannar. His parents are John Roy Dannar and Leah Virginia Trammell. Leah will be 100 this October and is still as sharp as a tack! John Roy was the son of Nathaniel (sometimes spelled Mathaniel)Dannar and Rebecca Collins. Nathaniel's parents were Henry W. Dannar and Lydia Ann Ross (whom the Kansas Census Records indicate is white ;p ). Henry's parents were Michael Dannar and Sarah Vance. Michael's parents were Phillip Dannar, Jr. and Margaret Millheim.

My husband's last name is Dannar. We have heard that the reason the name was changed was because their brother William Henry Dannar married Lydia who is a black woman. They didn't like the idea of having a black woman in the family so they changed there name to Dannar from Danner. My Husbands Grandfather was Everett Dannar, his Gr Grandfather was Henry Dannar and his grgr grandfather was John R Dannar and Rebecca Ann, grgrgr was Michael Dannar.

Re: My Father

My husband is a Dannar from Northwest Nebraska. He was always told that if he ever met another Dannar whose name was spelled with an a instead of an e that they were most likely related. A few generations back there was a large family and their name was spelled Danner. Two or three of the boys-for reasons we have yet to learn-changed the spelling of their name from er to ar. Looks like you are an ar Dannar, too. So probably way back when we are somehow related. My husband's family tree is --- his dad, Robert: his grandfather, Clarence Alfred; his great greatfather is Edward Sylvester. We have the genealogy way back to the original settlers in America. However, and this is where it gets interesting, they were originally Tanners from Germany. Do not know why it was changed from Tanner to Danner and then to Dannar, but it was. Bruce's grandfather, Clarence Alfred, was one of five boys who were born in Missouri to Edward Dannar and Laura Kariker. They were called the five C's because they were Connie, Clyde, Cecil, Clarence, and I don't remember the other one right off the top of my head. They all left Missouri and settled in either Nebraska, Colorado, or Wyoming. I don't know their children, so you may come from one of their families. Hope this helps.
