Leslie, my ggrandfather was Alfred Kattau Dannettel s/o Henry C (conrad) and Lucy Kattau. His sister was Rosa D. Hopefully this thread isn't to old. They are all buried in Seymour IN in Chestnut Ridge and Riverview cemetaries which I have pictures of some of the tombstones. My Grandfather Ohelman Fredric Dannettel changed our last name to Dannettelle so both spellings are related.

Hi - This thread is a bit old but I am hoping some of you are still around. I think we may be connected. My ggrandmother Rosina Dorothy Dannettell was the one ggparent I thought I would never be able to trace. All we knew was that she was born in Chestnut Ridge, Ind. in 1842, and her father was from France. Then I found an article at www.jacksoncountyhistory.org/books/ index.asp?book=brantfuller&page=759 with a bio of Henry C Dannettell, who was born in France in 1815, moved to Germany, then to the US in 1832, living first in Baltimore before moving to Cincinnati and eventually Chestnut Ridge, Ind, where he had several children, including a "Rosa D". Is Henry C a brother of Margaret Sophia and son of Cort? I would love to hear any more you have on this family. Thanks.

The Dannettel surname is of German decent. In particular from the Hanover that you speak of. When you speak of them being from France do you mean specifically your family? It's strange because my grandparents have said the Dannettels were from France also, but the documentation that I have recieved states the Dannettels were from Germany. My e-mail address is shissey@earthlink.net any reply would be appreciated.

Prince Cort Von Roemling Dannettel goes back to the 1400's. His story is an exciting one!(at least for me) What I have is a hand written account of Von Roemling Dannettel history, written in 1930 by Margaret Bruning. She was about 90 at the time and didn't want the family history to die with her. Apparently she must have made several of these letters. I think that the Brunings had 9 kids.
Cort Dannettel was born in 1769. He hung around with George IV of England and both were at the Battle of Waterloo. Then there is a space in time. He came to Balltimore with his daughter, Margaret Sophia Dannettel in 1832, perhaps on the same ship that Herman Bruning was on. Sophie and Herman married in 1833 in Balt. He was a Rev. at the Oberbine? (German Church in Balt.) He died in l855.
Sophie Was born in Germany on Oct 15, 1812 and died in 1895 aat the age of 80. She is buried in Baltimore Cemetery, with her first and second husband.
My gg grandmother was Henrietta Caroline Bruning born 20 Mar 1843 in Balt. and died 18 Dec. 1915 in Balt. She married John Henry Knipp Nov. 1866 by her father Rev. H.H. Bruning.

Hessy Dormstat, Germany is where the Von Roemling's were from. The Dannettel's were from France. Bruning were from Hanover. Please write me back. I have not been able to find the name Von Roemling of Dannettel anywhere. I know there are Dannettels listed in the Balt. phone directory. Cort must have had sons that came with him in 1832. It's so wonderful to find family. Are you in the Balt. area? I can only go back to my 4th g grandmother, Margaret Sophia Dannettel, b. 1812 in Germany. She came to Baltimore in 1832 and married Herman Henry Bruning. What was your grandfather's name? His daughter married a Carl Bruning who then had a child Margaret.
Family legend has it that Cort was orginaly a Prince Von Roemling that took sanctuary with a Count Dannettel and his family. He then married their daughter and took their name.
If anyone knows anything about this family, please reply.
