Well, my grandfather is John Danny (Jr.) and he's half Indo-Guyanese and Portuguese. My great-grandfather, John Danny Sr., the one I mentioned that was half Black, I was told he was half Black by my grandma. But, this makes no sense since his son (Jr.) definitely was Indian (Indo-Guyanese). So I think that he was mixed with Black, White, and Indian. It's very confusing, sorry! But all my mother's family have the surname "Danny" and are Indo-Guyanese.

Perhaps "Dannie" isn't a likable variation of "Danny," but it's good to note that the surname is associated with Indians too.

Hi Amanda,

Since my last post i.e. 10 years ago - nothing new (unfortunately) has come to light. I've not come across that name - John... and I'd only associated Dannie / Danhi, Danhi (prononced Dan-eye) - with Indians... and I've located them in Jamaica, Guyana and Canada...

Sadly, the trail runs cold.

Lisa booglesb@yahoo.com

Is there anyone named John Danny or Dannie in your family? My grandma told me that my great-grandfather, John Danny/ie, was mixed with Black and Caucasian. I'm glad that a surname that may be a variation to my family's has West Indian origins.

PLEASE can you email me booglesb@yahoo.com because I'm really really excited by this... My aunt has the surname Dannie and lives in Florida. My uncle has the surname Dannie and lives in Jamaica. My mum WAS a Dannie, until she married a Newton.

I have hit a massive blank with this surname. I found someone called Vickram Dannie in Canada, who I;m in touch with. I'd really like to see if there is a connection. There must be. The surname is rare. And I know my grandad was Indian. Yet, he seemed to come from nowhere - no brothers, no sisters... its a mystery!

Lisa

I have relatives on my mother's side of the family who has the surname "Danny". They are of Indian orgin also. The family member with the surname "Danny", that are still living are residing in Guyana and the United States.

Danny is a tough surname to locate, the only member of the Danny family that I know of are the ones that are in my immediate family. I know of my grandfather, who is a Danny, but he is dead and that leaves me without knowledge of his family.

I also know that my grandfather who carries the Danny surname, is also from Portugal or at one time his family came from Portugal, probably carrying the Danny surname. I do know that back then they used to change their surnames or in time the surname might of changed to other versions, like "Dannie."

I'm not sure, but I'm trying to find out more information about the Danny surname as well as other versions of the name. This might not help, but it is good to know that you know someone that is of Indian origin with the surname of Dannie.

Cesil Dannie 1914-1963

I've been trying to trace my grandad, Cesil Dannie, who was thought to have been born in Portland, Jamaica. He is of Indian origin. I don't know if he had any brothers or sisters, or even his parents names?! He moved to the Comfort District in Clarendon, Jamaica. I do know that he had 3 kids (one being my mum), and I know that his fathers brothers son was called Sam Vickers - who used to work on the railway lines in Maypen, before he emigrated to the US with his family in the 1970s - last known address was Brooklyn, New York. Any information on these people, would be greatly appreciated. My email address is booglesb@yahoo.com
