I'm sorry but I don't know the name of his first wife. If you check phone directory assistance in Canada under Tiganos, you will find his cousin who I originally spoke to. Maybe he will remember her name?

For Susana Griffin's post:

Might you have any idea of the other family John Danny had? Did he marry anyone named Maria?

My grandfather who was born in Vathi on the Greek island of Samos changed his name from John Tiganos to John Danny after emigrating to the USA and amassing gambling debts. He & my grandmother had 3 children; Mary Danny, Helen Danny & Jack Danny. The Dannys in Canada are his cousins. I spoke to them once by phone & was told that my grandfather already had a wife & family in Greece and dishonored the family by having another family. He was a chef onboard a ship who jumped off it & decided to stay in America around 1917. He never returned to Greece & died in 1946 of a heart defect he was born with.

My mother as well as her father has this surname. His family emigrated from Portugal to Guyana where the family stayed from then on. My mother is Guyanese, as well as her father.

It's a tough surname and it's hard to find people with the same surname without the results of the search coming up with people with "Danny" as their first name.

The Danny surname is popular in Quebec, Canada, but my family are from Guyana/Portugal so it's hard to find relatives from the same origin.

Also, I've been searching for the origin of this surname as well as what it means and I couldn't come up with any results.

- Amanda

dear michael,
you are so right. i have an elizabeth danny, who married bernard gray in ireland(possibly Dublin). the family came to australia in 1841?. they had children thomas keegan, peter, henry, elizabeth, arthur joseph, patrick, vernon. does this help? if you have any information at all, i would love to know it, being so unusual, there may well be a link. many names i have researched seem to have originated in scotland. yvonne

This is quite an unusual surname, especially in the UK, so I would be interested to hear from anyone, anywhere, with the name.
