Obituary from the San Francisco Chronicle, Thursday, Dec. 26, 1963, pg. 30:

John A. Dante, a composing room executive for The Chronicle for the last ten years, died yesterday morning at his apartment at 575 O'Farrell street. he was 60.

Mr. Dante had been an employee of The Chronicle for 20 years. he had previously worked for other Bay Area newspapers and print shops and recently received his 40-year membership pin in the International Typographical Union.

Survivors include his wife, Zita. Funeral services are pending at Halsted & Co., 1123 Sutter street.

Funeral Notice from the San Francisco Chronicle, Friday, Dec. 27, 1963, pg. 21

Dante - Dec. 25, 1963, John A. Dante, beloved husband of Zita E. Dante; loving father of Dr. Jack Dante of McMinnville, Ore.; brother of Josephine Moore; a 40-year member of the International Tyupographical Union, Local No. 21.

Services Monday, 2:30 p.m. at HALSTED & CO., 1123 Sutter st. Eureka, Calif.

I found your email address on Ancestry.com when I was trying to locate my husbands mother. Her name is Claudette Mechiel Dante, born April 12, 1934 in Summit, NJ. I think Joseph and Sarah (Idore) Dante of Summit, NJ were her parents. When I saw the 5/4/2002 response regarding Michelena Idore/Dante and the reference to Joseph and Sarah Dante, it seemed like perhaps you might be able to share some information about Claudette.

If you can help us to locate her, we would be so very grateful.

in reply to your information on the name idore my grandmother name is sarah frances (idore) she married joseph thomas dante who were from summit NJ, her parents name were, Pasquale Idore Father who was born in Italy, and
Michlena Dante mother who was also from Italy.

This info is more for DANTE seekers, than my searching/ US Census 1850 Louisville Ky gives Paul Dante age 65 a steamboat worker.
I believe the age is correct, I do have a copy of the census page but don't know exactly where it is. If anyone is interested, i'll try to locate the same.

I found your email interesting and I had to reply. I was searching for any information I may find about my family and your posting is all that turned up. Idore is a very uncommon name and I have Dante's in my family so I know we must be related somehow. Rumor has it, the name Idore derived originally from Iotoro. The name was changed when our ancestors came from Ellis Island. Does this sound familiar?

I was under the impression that my brother was the sole person able to carry on the Idore name at this point. I would love to hear of any other Idores you may know of.

PS Sorry to hear about the sheets. I know how family heirlooms are irreplaceable and priceless.

Yes, I made a mistake in my last posting. Harriet Ann Dante married George Mckinney on 12/7/1878 and lived in Menard County Illinois. My Grandmother, Anna married Fred Watkins. My records show four children--listed in my first posting. When was Hettie May born and do you have the date when Harriet Ann was born? Did she spell her name Dant rather than Dante? I would like to share information with you and maybe we can do that through e-mail.

Paul Dante, born in France

My ancestor Mary Neibel married a Dante in
Kentucky. She was born 1867 in PA. I do not
know her husband's first name, but it is
interesting that Paul Dante was a steamboat
worker and Mary's father worked on a riverboat
at one time. I would be interested in who else
is listed on the census sheet with Paul if you
have that info. Thanks.

Looking for any information on Ethel Dante. Born late 1800's and still living in the late 1970's. She had a male child with John Christopher Lainhart (b. 1886; d. 1979). Child's name was Courtney Hesekiah Lainhart (b. 10 Oct. 1909; d. 11 June 1970).
Unsure if Ethel and John were married. John left Indiana with young Courtney and went to California. Any information on this branch of the family would be greatly appreciated.

Trying to find Information on Michelena Idore She married a Dante. Also looking for the person who took "sheets with the name michelena embroidered on them in i think 1983/84. After a tornado hit our home in great falls montana. It was the only thing I had left from my great grandmother besides her name. If you have those sheet contact me at mboe507304@aol.com
