D'Aquila maybe?

Classification: Query
Surnames: D'Aquila, Diaguila, Garigliano
I am attemping to put together some type of family tree and am looking for the family of my grandparents from nicosia, Sicily. I've been told to check the church records etc. But I don't know Italian so I'm not sure how to proceed.
My grandfather's name was Francesco D'Aquila, DOB 9-22-1890 and died 8-76. I found records that he arrived in the U.S. in 1913. I have not found the ship yet but I'm sure its there. His family was supposedly a poorer family there in Nicosia. His father may have been Michael but I'm not sure.
His brother, came to the US a few years before and married a Sicialian girl named Carmela Garigliano, also from Nicosea. They settled in the Chicago area.
Now my grandmother Antonina Garigliano was born 8-9-1899 also in Nicosia. She was Carmela's sister. She arrived here October 1916. She was 17 years old.........
Her sister and brother in law intoduced her to Francisco and Antonina and Francisco were married. They settled in Waukegan, Illinois.
Carmella and Antonina's father was Anthony Garigliano, so I understand. Anthony Garigliano was supposedly more well to do and was a world traveler (?) spending a lot of time in South America........I'm not sure why?
The problem here is the spelling and this does not make my search any easier.. I was told that my last name was originally spelled D'Aquila. However somehow on the papers the name was changed and the apostaphy was changed to an i making the name "Diaguila". And it was supposedly done by an official. That is the story that the family has told. Plus Francesco was changed to Frank and Antonina was changed to Antonette.
This may be an impossible task so I would appreciate any help available.
