Dorcas is a christisan name that comes from the New Testament.

DARCUS / DARCIS is a surnaqme and probably comes from the French d'Arques. I have only seen this name in 19c. Ireland. I think it may have been further corrupted to DARKER.

Darcus Moore is probably the former, i.e. Dorcas, rather than the latter.
I am researching a Darcus Moore b. 1793. I do not know her maiden name. She was living in KY when her husband died. She moved the family to Hardeman Co TN. One child was named Eli Moore. She married William Lawhorn in 1825 in Hardeman Co. TN. They had a child named Angelina B Lawhorn that married Moses P Crisp in 1855 & John W. Oliphant in 1867 & had Children: Sarah Crisp & Eli Oliphant. Darcus/Dorcas/Dorcus ?? spelling is different at times. 1870 Hardeman Co Census shows Dorcas Moore Lawhorn living with her son Eli Moore--along with her daughter Angelina's children. Eli Moore named his daughter Darcus Moore after his mother. I am wondering if this name could stand for her relatives last name? Ann Moore
