Hi Jerry,
I'm not sure if your John and the one I'm looking for are the same. The John Dardis I'm looking for had a daughter Ann Dardis who would have been born about 1825 and married Simon Connor prior to 1845, as that is when their first child, Lawrence Connor, was born. They did indeed live in Illinois for a time after emigrating and appear to have been there between 1850 and 1856, as that is where the first 7 of their children were born. We have no info on the county in Illinois though. By 1858 the family had moved to Minnesota and they appear on the 1860 and 1870 census for Waseca County, Wilton Township. This doesn't jive with your info that Anne Dardis ran a boarding house in Iowa by 1860, so at best I think these two brances may be cousins of some sort. Do you have any info on where in Ireland Michael and his children emigrated from? That might help cement the connection. Unfortunately, I have little info on the Dardis family either, other than in the form of Ann Dardis and Simon Connor's descendants, as one of their daughters was my great grandmother. I know a Connor in Minnesota that had a lot of info though and if you think it worthwhile I can try to put you in touch with him. Hope to hear from you again soon!
Julie
