I'm looking for information on the parents or other relatives of my great great grandfather, John Dardis.
He was born in Ireland, probably between 1825-1828 and was married to his wife, Jane Hughes, in February of 1850 in a church somewhere near Dublin by a Father Duncan, according to her Civil War widow's pension application. Apparently they immigrated to America shortly thereafter because, according to census records, their first son, Thomas, was born in New York in 1850-51. Sometime between 1851 and 1856 he moved to the Sandusky, Ohio area, where, except for the time he served in the Union Army during the Civil War, he lived and farmed until his death in 1889. His other children, all of whom were born in Ohio, were sons John, James, Henry, and William and his daughters Jennie, Rosa, Mary and Betty. His wife’s father's name was Nicholas Hughes.
The only other information I have on him is that he served in the 72nd Ohio Infantry during the Civil War.
If anyone can provide information that would help me connect John, or his wife Jane, to the correct Dardis/Hughes families in Ireland, I would sincerely appreciate it.
