Virginia Dare was part of a colony of settlers along with her parents. Her grandfather returned to England for supplies and when he returned 3 years later the entire colongy had vanished. He found the word "Croatoan" carved on a tree leading him to think that the colony moved to the nearby island of Croatoan. He was going to try to go there but then a hurricane hit and he ended up going back to England.

The whereabouts of Virgina Dare and the colony have never been found out or proven for sure. 100 years later the colony was searched for again and they found Indians who spoke English and some had grey eyes. The colony could have mixed with an Indian tribe.

No one could say what happened to Virginia Dare in particular. The DNA study on the remains of Pochahantas sounds interesting but they would need to find a current Dare female to compare maternal DNA wouldn't they?
