Hi... My name is samantha. My moms maiden name was Darlington (Carol Joy Darlington). She passed away just over a month ago, as far as we know she had no living relitives. It was just by chance that i found this website and saw that you were looking for Darlingtons in South Africa. It would be really amazing if she did have family out there and we could get in contact with them, it would have meant the world to my mom... So if by any chance you do know my mom or her parents (Keneth & Fay Darlington) I would really appreciate it if you would let me know...

Williamson, Darlington, Chester Co PA 1820

During the year 1820, Yellow Fever hit the Delaware Valley and killed many of the residents. Records show that 7 of my Williamson and Harlan family ancestors died in Chester County in 1820: Joshua Williamson, blacksmith, his wife Ruth Harlan, and Ruth parents, Caleb Harlan and Margaret Cloud. My ggg-grandfather, Lott Williamson, was born that year, but went twith his brother, Robert, to live with the George Darlington family until they reached adulthood. Lott later served in the Civil War in the Company A, 51st Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania, Unit #2303. I know he married Mary Stockley, of Delaware, but that's all I know. Any connections?

He is quite possibly an illegitimate son - his parents might have married after his birth, or been common-law spouses, so you may find him on censuses as Darlington or Booth, and his birth certificate likewise. (Also remember to search for 'Male' Darlington/Booth and 'Unknown' ditto!)

The 1861 census looks like a good possiblity as there is no William Booth b. 1853 Little Hulton on the 1881 census.

John Booth m. possibly Nancy Darlington, June quarter 1853 Bolton registration district (includes Little Hulton) - freebmd.rootsweb.com

Angie, My great great grandfather, William Moreland had 3 daughters, one Alice, who married John N. Darlington. Alice died in Franklin Cty, Ky Sept 11. 1944, putting John there in Franklin Cty. My research goes with Alice, who's father was William Moreland (Blackfoot tribe connection???) and mother who was Lucy Gaines. William and Lucy were married in Anderson Cty, Ky in 1851. Hope some of this info connects with your research. I need info on Alice's sister, Emma Buckley. Emma married a James Booth Buckley and it's his mother and father that I need info on.
Charles H. DARLINGTON Biography, IL<WI

From "History of Grant County, Wisconsin", 1881, p. 963.

TOWN OF MUSCODA

CHARLES H. DARLINGTON came to Muscoda from Illinois in November, 1874, and, in partnership with H. W. Glasier, then a resident here, issued the first number of a four-column quarto (neutral in politics), the Muscoda "News", on December 5. On the 1st of January, 1876, Mr. Glasier sold his interest. In August, 1876, the "Skirmisher", a small campaign paper of editorial matter, was begun, and continued through twelve issues. About November was begun an education journal, the "Educator", which reached a circulation of nearly five hundred. March 1, 1877, the "News" was enlarged to a seven-column folio; May 1, 1877, it was suspended, and July 4, the "Educator" made its last appearance. September 1, publication of the "News" was resumed (a Republican paper), four column folio, printed at home. In January, 1878, the form was altered to a six column folio, and Christmas Day, 1880, it was first issued as a five column quarto.

[I am not related to this family. I'm posting this as a service and hope it helps!]

Trying to make a connection.

I can't seem to make a connection here. My Grandfathers middle name is Ross Darlington Johnston. The middle name is confusing, there doesn't seem to be a family tree with that name in it, at least that I can find.
However, the names Smith, Boyd, and Rankin do connect.

Here are some names:
Ross Smith
Maude Janette Smith (daughter of Ross Smith)
Emmet Robert Johnston, married to Maude
Ross Darlington Johnston, son of Emmet and Maude, grandson to Ross.

saw your message regarding Darlingtons of Kentucky and that your family had gone from Ky to CO. my grandfather was Charles Henry Darlington he was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1884. according to varying records, ie: SSI application, death, and Census records his father was John Franklin Darlington and he was born in Kentucky. his mother Lucielle C. Morgan and she was born in Iowa. The family story is that Charles had 3 or 4 brothers. One drowned. Another became a portrait painter. Unfortunately my grandfather was not one to talk about himself. He died in an accident in 1942 when my mother was just 16 so alot of his and his ancestor's life history is lost. If by chance you come upon anything that remotely matches send me a line

At the time of his marriage John was a "carter". His father's name was George. Sarah Royle's father was named William and he was a labourer.
