This line goes back to Jonathan's father Samuel D., who was in the civil war, b. Around 1838 in Brookhaven, NY. This is the Long Island part of the family. Is there a connection to them with the other NY Darrows?

Children of Benjamin Darrow and Elizabeth Binkley - Documentation

I have seen a list of the children of Benjamin Darrow and Elizabeth Binkley posted in several places and also in the Dickson County Heritage Book. The only source that anyone mentions is a book about the Darrow family. Does anyone have this book? If so, would you be able to share with me the sources for their children? Or if you have found evidence for any of their children yourself, would you mind sharing it with me? I have researched Benjamin Darrow at the Tennessee State Library and Archives and have found very little information.

I have been able to identify only two children, Christopher and James W., both from Goodspeed publications of the nineteenth century.

Any help appreciated. My primary genealogical interest is the Binkleys of Tennessee and their descendants. Elizabeth Binkley's father, Adam, was the brother of my great-great-great grandfather John Binkley.

Sara Binkley Tarpley
www.binkleytarpley.com

I am very interested in the Darrow family that lived in Crawford County, Bloomfield, PA listed on the 1880 Census. One of their daughters is listed as Ella Bush, 20.
The Darrows and my Bush family are separated by one farm. The Darrow household list a daughter Lula Bush. The Bush family (Harrison Monroe and Electa Lincoln) list Charles S Bush 26 and his 4 year old son Charlie B. Possibly, Ella is Charlie's mother? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Joyce

Arthur D. Darrow, Otho, Webster Co., IA

I have found Arthur in the 1930 census in the above location but can't find him anywhere else. My mother is 89 and her memory isn't perfect but she remembers that Arthur, born NY or PA, visited Harford Twp., Susquehanna Co., PA with his wife Lottie (born ??). Apparently they moved/lived in Otho, IA until Lottie died. They had no children. Arthur made a trip back to Hallstead, Susquehanna Co., PA to find a Darrow woman he knew living there (on Franklin St.?) and took her back to Otho, IA to be his housekeeper. I don't know this woman's first name or if they ever married. In 1930 he and a Mary C. (Mary Charlotte? Lottie?) have been married for about 10 years. In about 1949-50 my parents and I visited Arthur and his (housekeeper?), both very old, at their home in Otho, IA.
Does this info ring any bells for anyone?
I would love to find Arthur's parents. The 1930 census says his father was born PA. Mother: ? All assistance appreciated.
dlodavidson

I have a picture of my grandmother and her sisters that I thought perhaps someone would like. So I will post it here. My grandmother was Alta (Darrow) Trexell. Her mother was Rebecca Fenton and her dad was Jerome Darrow. If you can use it in your research, be my guest. I see I have a lot of cousins on this board. See ya.
Otto Darrow & Family; David City, Nebraska

Can anyone help me with Otto Darrow, living 1920 Census, Single, David City, Nebraska, Butler County? By 1930 he was Married, with wife and two small children, Otto was age 42, living in David City, Nebr. This Otto Darrow is listed in the SSDI as having died David City, Nebr., June 1966. [I know that this family of Darrows were members of the First Baptist Church, David City--at least during the 1930's, when my grandparents were Pastor & wife there.]

I am not sure if this man ties in with my Darrow line, but there might be that possibility. I live in TX, so could anyone in close proximity to David City, Nebr., help me? Perhaps there is an obituary for Otto Darrow from June 1966 that might list his parents? Or maybe there is a marriage license dated about 1922 for Otto Darrow and bride, Butler Co., Neb.?
It would be very helpful for me to know the name of Otto Darrow's father. With that information, I could do research back. THANKS SO MUCH ....any help is much appreciated.
I descend from Clyde Herbert Darrow (born 1858), son of Nathan Darrow, born 1828, and Elizabeth Shepler. Nathan was a brother of Amirus Darrow, whose son was the famous trial lawyer, Clarence Seward Darrow. The common ancestor was Amirus' and Nathan's father, Jedediah Darrow, born 16 Oct 1789. I would like to find anyone interested in this connection, with the further aim of finding more documentation.

Ellen or Celia Darrow - Photo Taken 1900/1905; WI

I have an original studio photograph of “Mama – Mrs. Alonzo Stillson (Ellen) and Auntie - Mrs. J. C. F. Morgan (Celia)”, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo was taken in about 1900-1905, in Necedah (Juneau Co.) WI, and Ellen and Celia look to be about in their 40s.

I found both Ellen and Celia in the 1860 census for Juneau Co., WI, with Ellen, age 7 – and Celia, age 6. They were children of John and “Cinthia” Darrow.

In the 1900 census for Necedah, WI, I found A. D. Stillson (b.Mar 1850), wife Ellen L., (b.Aug 1852), and daughters Nina E. (b.Jan 1883) and Grace A. (1874). In the 1880 census for Juneau Co., I found Fremont Morgan, age 29, with wife Celia, age 23. In 1920 LaCrosse (LaCrosse Co.) WI, he was John C. Morgan, age 68, and Celia was age 66.

I have three other original photographs of Ellen Stillson which were taken in or around Juneau Co., WI: 1) “William Bussell, Nina Bussell, and Mrs. Stillson”, taken about 1920-1925 – Nina was Ellen’s daughter; 2) “Mr. & Mrs. Scorse, Mrs. Nell Riley, Grandma Stillson & Elizabeth Bussell”, taken in about 1930; 3) “Mrs. Scorse, Beth Bussell, Mr. Scorse, Grandma Stillson, Mrs. Demarest and Mrs. Noyes”, taken per the photo, “in 1934”.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Ellen or Celia Darrow.

Earl Darrow (b. Aug 1889), mother Clara (b. Apr 1861), lived Juneau Co., WI

I have two original photographs of Earl and Clara, which I would like to get back to family members.

The photo of Earl Darrow (as a baby at his christening) is a Cabinet Card and was taken in about 1890, by the Locke studio in Richland Center (Richland Co.) WI. Earl looks to be about nine months to a year old.

The picture of “Aunt Clara” is a 5-1/2” x 3-1/4” snapshot photo and on the back is written: “For Nina – Earl took this here in our living room. It is a very good natural picture”, surely written by Clara herself. This photo shows a woman about 60 years old, give or take a few years – and I would imagine it was taken approximately 1925 or so.

I found a Earl living with his parents in the 1900 Germantown (Juneau Co.) WI census. Husband in the home is hard to read (could be Eriffud or Euffnd – I am not sure on that) and he was born Mar 1846. Wife Clara born Apr 1861. Son Earl, age 10, born Aug 1889.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to the Darrow family of Juneau Co., WI.

It should be noted that Roysell DARROW(s/o Russell & Deliverance<EATON>) purchased land in Chautauqua Co. NY:

In 1845, Roysell DARROW purchased land in lot 36 of Charlotte, Chautauqua Co., NY from Herman Holden(Bk. 39, p.544) and seems to have sold this same property to brother, Russell DARROW, in 1848(Bk. 45, p.343).

Hinman and Herman HOLDEN may be same.

Roysell was to remove to Kansas where he died.

H.
WILLIAM HENRY DARROW

I have been trying to find information about the descendents of the other branches of my DARROW family as my grandfather GEORGE WASHINGTON DARROW had six brothers. This is all of the information that I have about one line.

My great uncle WILLIAM HENRY DARROW, was born in New Britain CT on July 14, 1874, the sixth son of DANIEL and BRIDGET DARROW.
WILLIAM graduated from Yale University School of Law in June 1902. He then practiced law in Manhattan and Brooklyn NYC the remainder of his life, with a specialty in patent law.

WILLIAM married CATHERINE (last name?) some time before 1910. They had three sons - all born in NYC 1) WILLIAM LAWRENCE DARROW born 1910; 2) D. ALLAN DARROW born 1913; and 3)SAMUEL DARROW born 1917. As of 1920 the family lived on the Fort Hamilton Parkway in Brooklyn.

On March 25, 1935 Mr. & Mrs. ROBERT A. CARTER announced the engagement of their daughter Miss MABEL CARTER to Mr D. ALLAN DARROW, a restaurant manager. Their daughter Miss CATHERINE CANNON DARROW, became engaged to WARREN TERRELL UPSON OF Woodbury CT in November 1961. The second daughter, Miss HELEN P. DARROW, became engaged to Mr.HARRY C. ROYAL 3d of Hingham, MA on July 28, 1963.

WILLIAM LAWRENCE DARROW, a lawyer like his father, married Edythe Westenhaver of University Heights, Ohio on March 9, 1981. This was his second marriage.

I would appreciate any assistance that would let me find information about the WILLIAM HENRY's children and any of their descendents.

Thanks

William Kevin Darrow

Darrow Line

My name is Greg Darrow. I thought I would post this informationto see if we could share some information about the Darrow line. I have been able to trace my line as fallows

1. Christopher Darrow, Born ?, Married Joan Harrison 2/13/1565

2. Henry Darrow, Born 1595, Married Anne Parte 2/4/1620

3. Sgt. George Darrow, Born 7/18/1639, Married Mary Sherwood 1675-6

4. Christopher Darrow, Born 12/1/1678, Married Elizabeth Packer 6/27/1701

5. Nathaniel Darrow, Born 1696, Married Rachel Willey 1736

6. George Darrow, Born 9/?/1747, Married June Eunice Meacham 1769

7. George Darrow, Born 10/9/1778, Married Olive Gaylord 10/17/1801

8. George Darrow, Born 1820, Married Harriet Williams 1835

9. Franklin Darrow, Born ?, Married Mary Ann Carpenter 1892

10. Franklin Gaylord Darrow, Born ?, Married Harriet Farmer ?

11. Kenneth Darrow, Born 8/21/1917, Married Selma Salisbury ?

12. William Darrow, Born 8/15/1938, Married Sharon McKool ?

13. Gregory Darrow, Born 12/23/62, Married Nichola Burnett

I have a lot more detail on some of the ancestors but I have a question that you might help with. My family records show the lineage as listed, but I have found others that show Nathaniel's (5) Father to be Nicholas Darrow, Christopher Darrow's (4) Brother. The detail I have is pretty thorough, but I have seen it listed as George Darrow (3) then Nicholas Darrow (4) then Nathaniel Darrow. The dates don't seem to follow this line but do follow my line. The confusion seems to come in the fact that both Christopher Darrow had a son named Nathaniel and Nicholas Darrow had a son named Nicholas who had a son named Nathaniel . My family records show Christopher's first child as Nathaniel born in 1696, Died 3/9/1752. Nicholas's grandson Nathaniel was born 3/9/1750 Please let me know if you can shine any light on this or help me with any other information.

Sincerely

Greg Darrow

His son was Quartus (b 1800), then Quartus's son was Leander (b 1825). Leander had a daughter Flora Ella (b 1855) and a son Wilton E.
New London Blacksmith

In researching the Drock (also spelled DeRock, Darrock, Darok, Darrak) family, I have come across a possible connection to the Darrow (Isaac?) family of New London, CT. Simon DROCK was a blacksmith, his son James Peter Drock was born in ?, New London, CT in 1785. I find James P. many years later taking over the smithy of an Isaac Darrow in Walton, Delaware, NY, where he had removed in 1812. Has anyone come across any Darrows in New London area who were blacksmithing? Maybe taking apprentices?

I believe she was related to an Ebenezer Darrow or a Joe Darrow as they are both mentioned in some notes that I have, (possibly father and brother). Can anyone help me?

DARROW, Centerville, S.D.

> Hopefully someone reading this will know of or be related to this
> family. I
> am extremely interested in knowing more about the DARROWs and would
> love to
> communicate with anyone who is interested and willing to share the family
> history.
>
> My MOTHER is the reason that I am interested in this particular Darrow
> family. My Mom was adopted in Sx Falls at the age of 3 wks old. She was
> raised in her adoptive family and never knew about anything of her
> biological story. Mom died in March 2000.....since then I have done much
> research and have been able to uncover some information. I am purely
> interested in all of this for the sake of family history and
> genealogy...no
> ulterior motives whatsoever. I have met a cousin from my generation
> of this
> family. I appreciated his help and kindness.
>
> The Darrow family that I seek information on lived a great deal of
> the time
> in Centerville, S.D.
> Frank Cyrus Darrow, Jr. b. 1851
> Jennie (Millage) Darrow....b. 1865.....this couple married 30 Jan
> 1884 Sioux
> Falls, S.D.
>
> The children of the above couple (and I am not certain that I have all the
> children listed...they had a large family)
> Harvey D. Darrow...b. 1898
> Ida Nora Darrow.....b1896
> Lelah Darrow....b.1888
> Mable Darrow..b.1885...she married a Heasley
> Ralph Darrow....b1886
> Retta Lura Darrow...b. 1890
> Earl Darrow...b. 1893
> Ernest Darrow...b. 1901
> Frank Cyrus Darrow....b. 1903
> Lulu Darrow....the youngest, I think.
>
> Please feel free to answer on this board....or email me directly.
> lin.ziemann@verizon.net
Origin of Darrow

I would like to hear everyone opinion on the Origin of the Darrow name if I may. I am working on the evolution of the name to Darrow from its different forms such as Durrow,Darroch,Dorough and etc. We have Durrow which evolved from Dair Meagh to Daru to Durrow and means Oak Plain and appeared in 563 in County Offaly Ireland.(This is based in Written History) We have the Darroch Scots connection which says Dorroch,Darroch,Darragh and Darrow came from members of the Clan McDonald who created and took the name after using Black Oak Pikes to defend the Clan during a Battle.(Folklore) We have McSlyahgt(Sp) who says they are all variations of Darragh which again comes from the Irish Dubh Dara or Dubh Dair meaning Black Oak. Dubh is Irish for Black. Dair is Irish for Oak. I dont know where Black Man of the Oak came from. The problem with the Scots version is that the McDonalds which created Darroch were it appears Irish.
RichardDorrough@yahoo.com

I'm seeking information on the descendants of Francis Marion ("Marion") Darrow/Derrow/Durrow/Derrer & wife Sophia Sprinkle of Plains & Linville, Rockingham Co., VA.

The 1900 census shows that Marion was b. Apr 1837. I'm trying to sort out Marion & Sophia's children. The 1870 & 1880 censuses are rather conflicting. Any help would be appreciated.

Their children include (there may be more or some of these might be the same, just went by different names on different censuses):
Mary C. (m. Joseph Rimel)
Hannah (m. Joseph Garber)
Margaret Cynthia ("Cynthia")
Joseph
Eliza (m.
descendents of Daniel DARRAH (DARROW)

am the greatgrandson of Daniel DARRAH, born in Scotland in late 1824 and died in Farmington,CT on April 24, 1884. He was buried in the Scott Swamp Cemetery in Farmington, CT.
The family retained a farm in the Farmington area until the 1890s.

Daniel, who married Bridget LYONS in Springfield MA on Feb. 23,1863, changed his family name, except on legal documents such as a probate list, to DARROW in 1865.

There were eight sons born between 1864 and 1882, in order:

Daniel C. 1864
James 1865
Samuel 1869
George 1872
(no name) 1874
Wiliam 1875
Frederick 1877
Albert 1882

The family lived in CT from 1864 until at least 1902 when Samuel, George and William moved to NYC.

I am trying to find descendents of Daniel C. DARROW who married Mary A.CROSLEY on May 16,1889 in New Britain CT. The known children are:

Agnes 1899
Mary 1893
Ruth 1895
William Benjamin 1901

or James L DARROW who married Mary Lane in Farmington CT
( date not known). Children were:

Agnes Katherine 1895
James P. 1893

or William H. DARROW who married Catherine ( last name not known) in CT on a date not known. Children were:

Lawrence(?) 1910
Allan(?) 1913

Wiliam was a patent attorney and lived on Hamilton Parkway, Brooklyn NYC in 1920.

Any information on any descendents of the original Daniel DARRAH (DARROW) family would be appreciated.

Vaughn Darrow

My grandfather's full name was VaughnThomas Darrow. He and his wife adopted two children. Montgomery Darrow and Carole (Darrow) Harr. There are currently two speculations about these children and why they were adopted. One, is that they were originally brother and sister and as such were adopted together. The second is that they were cousins but adopted as brother and sister. Now, the only problem is that my grandmother was a cold and unloving woman, so my brother and I are guessing that maybe Montgomery and Carole were actually his illigetimate children, and he made his wife adopt them. But we have nothing to back this up. Anybody who might be able to help, this would be greatly appreciated.
