Hi Linda,
The Dart family genealogy has a large amount of resource material for you to explore. The “Bolton” book was made available for downloading by Frank Mannning (thanks much!) and is a great starting place. There is a huge website, Cheezz-Darte (I’ll check) which is a terrific resouce. Also, I have copy of. “The Dart Family” compiled by Suessa Louise Dart Boice (1954) I puchased from www.higginsonbooks.com (they reprint family genealogies, etc. at a reasonable cost.) I found the Hempstead Diaries and The History of New London by Francis Manwaring Caulkins useful and fascinating historical perspectives. I’m willing to do some look ups if you need something specific.
My great-grandparents were Robert Manwaring Dart and Leona Grace (Bogue) Dart of New London County. I still live in the area and continue to research when I can. Recently I found (via internet) a will dated 1652 from a Menchim or Meachum > Richard Dart, shipmates aboard the ship “Amitie” making Richard the executor if Menchim did not survive. Frank Manning helped with the translation since it was written in “Olde English.” I am taking a break from the Dart and Bogue family work to work on my mother’s family, Powers and McGuigan. This has been quite a different experience since some were Irish immigrants in the 1850’s!!!! Powers name as common as Smith here in the US. Ugh!!
Re the Joslin connection: I am a Joslin by marriage. My husband’s great-grandfather is the original founder of the now world famous Joslin Diabetes Center, Elliott P. Joslin, M.D. The family has an incredible amount of history! Please e-mail me directly in regards to my husband’s family joanne @ joslin .net.
Good luck to you!
Jo Anne
