Emily Darwin born Kapunda South Australia related to naturalist Charles Darwin

I'm trying to trace the birth and parents of Emily Darwin born around 1869 in Kapunda, South Australia. She was allegedly the great niece of the naturalist Charles Darwin. She married Arthur Edgar Beilby between 1891 and 1901 in South Australia, then travelled to the UK on her honeymoon where she lived for the rest of her life.
Any information which would help link her to Charles Darwin would be of great help to me. Thanks.

I just have to jump in. My name is Darlene DARWIN. I was born in Anchorage, Alaska in 1953. My father is James Kenneth DARWIN b. 1917 Spokane, Washington. My Grandfather is James Harvy DARWIN b. 1888 El Dorado, Kansas.

My question to you is.....Where is your DARWIN Line come from. I am doing reaserch on this line and I know that there are 2 lines of DARWIN's here in the USA. Please write back and let me know. DARWIN's are hard to find.

Norman,

Elizabeth Hulme (c1834) who married James Darwen c1833, was the daughter of Nancy Hulme, who in the Mar Qtr 1939 ref 21 67, married Thomas Taylor. In the 1841 census she was listed as Betsey Hulme and in the 1851 census Elizabeth Taylor. In Australia on the birth certificate records of her children she was known as either Elizabeth Hume or Taylor.

Thomas Darwen 1845, married Ellen Ridyard in the Sep Qtr 1869, the actual record in Ancestry shows ref 8c 391, but when you look at the original sheet it is 8c 394, which is the same for Ellen Ridyard. As I said earlier they went to Canada with their daughter Sarah (c1874) in about 74 or 75.

Sarah Jane Darwen c1849, married Henry Eayres 13/12/1868, it was her family who kept in contact with the family of Thomas, then in Canada.

John Darwen c1856, was living with his mother in the 1871 and 1881 census, we believe John married Ruth Johnson in 1886, John died 3/02/1940, he also kept in touch with the Eayres family.

Norman there are 3 Thomad Darwens born in Lancashire about 1844/45/46, one is at Lancaster, Dec Qtr 1844, one is at Bolton Mar Qtr 1845, and the other at Wigan, Mar Qtr 1846, I can only assume you have the wrong Thomas.

However if you still requre more information please contact me at "winstonee@bigpond.com" and I will see what I can do. Incidentally I live in Australia and have a great deal of info on James c1833 and his ancestors.

Thanks for your email although I was surprised at your reply!
The Thomas Darwen I have researched was born 1845 at great Bolton - his parents being James & Elizabeth Porter (who later married Edward Beaumont).
He married Mary Ann Nicholson (formerly Hulme - confirmed on a Birth Certificate for their son James in 1887)) also of Great Bolton and she had a younger sister called Elizabeth, who I presumed married James (Jas).
I am still on the wrong track?

The Thomas Darwen, brother of James Darwen, emigrated to Canada, in either 1874 or 75, we have correspondence from the family dated 1922 from Brantford, Ontario. Therefore I do not feel that your Thomas is not the same one that we have in our family records.

My wife's maiden name is also Darwin and she is a decendant of Thomas Darwen c1845, born Great Bolton and died Nettlesworth, Co Durham in 1918. His brother was James (Jas) Darwen born 1835

Thomas married Mary Ann Nicholson (formerley Hulme)and had a number of children. James (youngest) was her GG grandfather. James had 9 children including my f-in-law James Henry b.1915 d. 1988. Only 1 survivor in that line is George. (ex professional footballer)

Somewhere along the line the name changed from Darwen to Darwin!

I would be grateful to receive any information you have re above.

I am looking for a Worden family who went to America (probably Massachusetts about 1826 then Dutchess, New York about 1836).
Most Wordens in New York in the 1800's were decendants of a Peter Worden who came much earlier. This family I am looking for seems to consist of:

Darlene, I think we may have made contact before. I have notes on Nancy's parents, grandparents, etc. I never followed her line. My line is Nancy's Petty great grandparents, and the Darwin ones too.

I am looking for anyone who may have information of the Darwens who lived in Preston and Walton-Le-Dale. My ancestors are Edward Darwen born 1830 married to Jane Adcroft 1849. His son John Darwen born 1850 married to Harriet Goring 1872. His son Jason Darwen born 1875 married to Agnes Lawson 1905, and all there families. Thankyou so much for the information, I have got most of the information from Edward and Jane down. I would like any further back information that you may have on the Adcroft family. I have hit a brick wall with Edward Darwens parents. John Darwen Gamekeeper born c1795 in Wigan Lancashire. He married Mary Bamber b 21/2/1796 m 4/9/1815. I have Mary's parents information, but the Darwens are my direct line. We are descendents through the following line. John (1795) Edward (1828) John(1850) Jason (1875) George (1913) George (1937) Anthony (1969) my husband. I look forward to hearing from you with any further information that you may have.

I have James and Mary Cowan Darwin had a child named John M. Darwin, born, 1781, in York Co., SC and married Sally before 1815. Sally was born about 1790. John M. Darwin is listed with a cash entry sale in the May 20, 1831, Huntsville, AL (Madison Co.) Land Records. John M. Darwin lived in Jackson Co., AL between 1840 and 1850. My records have John M. and Sally Darwin had a child named John Darwin, born 1836. I did not have his middle initial. Could you tell me more about John C.

I am a descendant of the Pierson family from Randolph county Illinois and I found your post and was interested in if you have any information on any Pierson or Pearson surnames. I have a Angeline Pierson who married a Leroy Darwin on 12/12/1848 in Randolph county Illinois. I believe Leroy died before 1860 becouse Angeline married a James M Kinley (Kinslet) on 12/12/1859 in Randolph county Illinois but I believe There are children from the Darwin Marriage in Perry county Missouri who are living with an aunt and uncle Benjamin Rickets in the 1870 Missouri census. My wife Sandra's maiden name is Darwen, she is a descendant of James Darwen c1835, born in Chorley, he was the son of James Darwen c1817, also born in Chorley,who married Elizabeth Porter, in Bolton in 1833.

James D jnr married Elizabeth Hume/Hulme/Taylor in 1853, and with their three children Alice, Albert and Margaret, came to Australia in 1863 on the ship Beejapore, thay had five more children in Australia.

We have a great deal of information on the Australian family and some on those who stayed in the UK, and if this is linked to you information we would like to hear more from you Eric

I've done some more digging in my files.
JOHN DARWEN (b 1851 Preston) was a cotton weaver of 24 James St, Preston in 1881 (RG11/4225) with wife HARRIET (b 1837 Buckingham, Lancs) they had children JANE ANN (1873), JASON (1876), HARRY (1878), EDWARD (1875), HARRY (1878) and EMMA (1881), maybe others as I haven't accessed 1891 census. HARRIET was married previously to ? YOUNG and had at least 2 sons JOHN (1864) and JAMES (1866). Note DARWEN and DARWIN are intercahngeable.

part 2 - ROBERT and ANN ADCROFT had the following children MARG (b1827), JANE cf. (b.1829), PEGGY (b 1833), ALICE (b1837) and GILBERT (b1839) refer 1841 census HO107/504/18. EDWARD DARWIN would appear to be the son of MARY DARWEN (bc 1801) of New Hallham, Preston, the 1841 census HO107/498/3 also gives GEORGE DARWEN (bc1826), JAMES (bc 1826), JOHN (b1827), EDWARD cf. (b1829), THOMAS (b1833), CATHERINE (b1837), MARGARET (b1835) and ANN (b1841), also in the household ANN DARWEN (bc1816). remember 1841 census is nearest 5 yrs for adults.

I have JANE ADCROFT in my genealogical records, she was born in 1829 in Blackburn, Lancashire. In the 1851 census she is married to EDWARD DARWIN (b 1830 Preston, Lancs) living at Richmond Row, Preston, both being cotton weavers. Their son JOHN was born 1851 in Preston.
