Likely, that all Dates' are related. My
Dad, and my Grandfather lived in Red Creek.
My Dads' name was John, and his father was
Frank(Franklin). My Aunt Nancy gave my mother a history of their family, and the Dates orginally were in New Jersey, about the time of the revolutionary war, and their name had been changed from Dietz to Dates.
Dietz is a German name, and primarily in the
state of Hesse. This is just a guess,however,
at that time, England had the Hessian soldiers from Germany fight on their side in
New Jersey, and I am wondering if perhaps the name was changed to conceal their connection with the Hessians who fought on Englands side. Didn't Donald have a jewelry store in Wolcott?? I left New York early, and never went back. My parents retired here in Florida, and our whole family is in Florida now. Most likely we are distantly related.
