Unless your ancestors are from Waco, TX beginning after my great grandfather Paul Dato jumped the boat while enlisted in the French Merchant Marine around 1880, it is unlikely that you are related. Papa was born in the Alsace area of France but as he was illiterate, no one ever knew for sure what the correct spelling of his name might be. You will find Dateau, Dato, and Deteau spellings throughout TX mostly in the central corridor in one of the above spellings and we are all related from Paul Dato. He is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Dallas along with his 2nd wife (first one died, no info. on her) and his daughter and son by 1st marriage, Will and Rosa Anna. Died during the 1918 plague as did is wife. My grandfather survived the plague as did Papa. There is a famous Spanish general, Eduardo Dato, who lived in the early 1900's and there are many US citizens who are of Spanish origin and migrated to the US west coast via Mexico. Hope this helps.
