myrtle viola jones or daub?

My g grandmother was Myrtle Viola Jones. She said that she was related to some Daubs in Ontario. It was believed that she had a sister and that the two of them may have been raised by some one other than both of their parents.
I am getting a sense of maybe her mother's name was Daub. GGrandmother said that they used go to Ontario to visit her grandparents who were Daubs. Actually, she called them VanDaub, but that may have been an embellishment on her part. I think these must have been her mother's family.
I am also getting a sense that maybe her mother took to this man named Jones against her parents wishes.
It is all so sketchy. So was her life.
I think that they were around Berlin, maybe. or, maybe another town in Ontario that sounded like an Irish town name.
I know this is a long shot, but, does anyone have an inkling about this in thier family.
I am thinking that my GGrandmother was probably born somewher around 1870. She ended up living in Michigan, and all over the place in her later years.
She claimed to be of Danish heritage.
Anyone?
He appears in the 1870 census in the 6th Ward of Kings County along with his wife Catherine and the first 5 of his children on page 219.

Thank you for your reply. I was hoping that your George Daub from New York might be the same George Daub I found on the 1860 census in York County, Pennsylvania. He was enumerated with Jacob and Elizabeth Daub. George was age 17 and born in Germany abt. 1843. He wasn't on the 1850 census with this family and I can't find him in 1870.

Was your George listed in New York in 1860 and 1870? I hoping there might be a link with your line. I haven't been able to find a naturalization paper for any of my Daub line or find them on a passenger list. I believe they came over between 1815 and 1833.....it depends on which biography was right.

The George Daub listed in the 1880 census is the brother of Leonhard Daub my 2nd Great Grandfather and his wife Catherine appears to be the sister of my 2nd great Grandmother Maria who was married to Leonhard. George and his family are listed in both the 1860 and 1870 censuses.
In 1856 he and Leonhard were naturalized on the same day-Oct. 24th. The address on the naturalization did not give a house number but is listed as Avenue A, NYC

I have pictures of George's gravestone in Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn. I haave not learned who George and Leonard's parents are yet.

Pete Antony
Cyndi:
Thanks for your reply. Am still not certain of a connection but further on the Daub family - My ggrandmother, Barbara Daub born May 6, 1854, died June 23, 1909 in Ontario, dau. of George Daub and Mary Albrecht. Her father George was born circa 1812 in Rulfenrod, Hessen Darmstadt, Germany, died after 1891 in Ontario. His parents were John Daub and Catharine Schusler. John born Feb. 14, 1777 in Rulfenrod died Dec. 11, 1853 in Ontario. His wife Catharine born July 24, 1778 Rulfenrod died Dec. 28, 1857 in Ontario. They had 7 known children - George, Andreas, John, Eliza, Conrad, Catherine and Margaret. If you can piece anything together from this it would be great.
Henry and Hanna Daub lived Pittsburgh, PA in 1880's...

I am trying to find anyone related to the descendants of Henry and Hanna Daub who immigrated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania around 1847 from Hesse, Germany. The family is listed on the 1880 Pittsburgh census with Henry born abt. 1831 in Germany, Hanna born abt.1837 in Germany and with children Edward H. born abt. 1858, Mary H. born abt. 1865, Emma I. born abt. 1871, Matilda H. 'Tillie' born abt. 1873, and Harry J. born abt. 1876, all children born in PA.

I am particularly interested in finding any information about Mary H. Daub as I have information that she married my great great grandfather (his 2nd marriage) George Howard, born in Ireland. They married April 23, 1896 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I have a picture of George Howard and Mary with my great-grandmother Grace Hoff (originally from Pittsburgh) and one of her daughters Dorothy possibly taken in New York City.

I would like to know what happend to George Howard and 2nd wife Mary...when they passed away, where and where buried? The last record I have of them is the 1930 Pittsburgh, PA census living on Hampton Street with Mary being 64 years of age. The 1910 Pittsburgh census states that Mary had given birth to 2 children and none were living at the time, so I don't believe they raised any of their own children but George did have four children by a previous marriage...Grace, Charles, Harry J. and William.

Any information on any of these people or Mary's family can be e-mailed to jbsmokey@aol.com

DOROTHY DAUB

I am searching for any information on Dorothy Daub, born c 1921, New York City. She was the daughter of Charles E. Daub and Ottilia Jahela. On the 1930 Mineola, NY census, the Daub's were living with Ottilia's parents, Louis Jahela and Anna Jambor. Any information would be appreciated.
Tom Sugden

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your response. I do have back to Henry. Jacob H. is really not a relative of mine. His son was married to my grandfathers sister. I have in my possesion old family photos for Jacob H. and his wife Mary Ellen and children dating I believe from around the 1880s on. I would like to see that they be returned to the family. I will gladly ship them at my expense but would like to see them go to someone in Jacob H.s line since they are of that family. If you know of anyone let me know.
Thank you,
Jane

Marcy,
I am afraid your email slipped by me. I apolgize for the delay in responding. I do not belive your Great-Grandmother, Mary May was a daughter of Jacob H. Samuel Nace Daub (father to Jacob H.) had at least 6 sons that I know of. So would be possible that she would be a daughter to one of them. I will be glad to see if I can find any information for you.
Jane

Delighted to hear from you. Would be glad to exchange information. I haven't looked at my query for some time, so I am at a disadvantage as to which John Daub you referred to; I presume the younger. However, I will refresh my recollection. We can post via this site or continue discussion via e-mail if you prefer. Jackie
