I am researching German musicians who taught in Jackson, Tennessee. James A.C. Dauer taught in Jackson from 1905 to 1910. In the 1910 census, he states that he is from Germany, married to Amerlia E. (probably Emily), and was naturalized in 1870. However, in the 1920 and 1930 censuses, he states that he was born in Charleston, SC. I'm thinking he may have switched that information because of anti-German sentiment at that time. He had a son named Manning and a grandson named Princeton and was living in Charleston before and after living in Jackson at least from 1888 to 1930.
Does anyone have his name in your Dauer family tree? I'm trying to find out who his parents were and when he may have died.
Thanks for your help.
