Hello Joy,
What a wonderful snapshot your father provided into my dad's wartime year. I've read it a couple times - very lovely mental images. Dad played a trombone in high school so it doesn't surprise me that his love for music would include enjoying orchestra performances. I was also told my dad had a mischievous streak so getting your dad into the mess hall lines right up too. I would be most interested in your father's stories and any other recollections he might have of my dad.
