Sarah Ann DAUGHERTY m. William PHILLIPS, December 16, 1858

I'm looking for William Phillips, born abt. 1832 in NJ, married Ann - possibly Sarah Ann Daugherty, who was born abt. 1840 in OH. After OH they lived in Knoxville, IL before moving to Kansas between 1864 and 1866 and living the remainder of their lives there.

I believe the William listed in the 1850 census below is this William:

1850 Census: William is living with his family in Union, Madison Co, Ohio.

Andrew Phillips b. NJ abt 1802, age 48
Abigail Phillips b. NJ abt. 1806, age 44
Owen Phillips b. NJ abt 1830, age 20
William Phillips b. NJ abt. 1832, age 18
Edwards Phillips b. NJ abt 1836, age 14
Kitura Phillips b. NJ abt. 1838, age 12
John Phillips b. OH abt. 1841, age 9
Calvin Phillips b. OH abt 1843, age 7
Phineas Phillips b. abt. 1845, age 5

I also believe this marriage record is the same William Phillips - "Madison County [OH] Marriage Records
1810-1899" -

DAUGHERTY, Sarah Ann and William PHILLIPS, December 16, 1858

Is anyone familiar with this family that could provide information on it and tell me if I'm on the right track?
Boy, I don't know if our lines connect or not. That Drake was your great-grandfather's middle name, sure would seem to indicate a regard for the name; perhaps Drake is in your family tree? Do you know much about the paths your family took to Missouri? My Drakes came from Bedford co., VA, to Hardin co., KY, and then to northeast Missouri/southeast Iowa -- Scotland co., MO, and Van Buren co., IA. I don't know that my Hopkins-Daugherty line came to Iowa.

I am looking for a father for my g/grandmother. His name is possibly Anthony Daugherty born est/1841; Indiana according to his daughter's census records. Her death cert lists her father's name as Anthony born Ireland, signed by a g/son so one of those is in error.
He may have married a woman from Ohio.
His daughter M. Ellen was born 1866 Iowa, she married twice in Appanoose County, once to a Reynolds 1884, once to a Freeman 1891 then moved to Texas.
Is there an Anthony like that in your database?
Thanks for reading,
CW

Reynolds abt. 1906, son Ora; then married Jesse Freeman 1926, daus Emma and Bessie and son Johnie b/TX.
Some people list her as Mary because she always went by M. Ellen; but she signed her name as Martha here in Texas. She was born Iowa and her parents were born: father poss Indiana and mother poss Ohio. On her death cert, signed by a g/son, her fathers name was Anthony and he was from Ireland.

I'm just not sure where to go next but was hoping your Daughertys might be kin to my Daughertys.

Thanks for reading,
CW

Re: Solomon or James Daugherty?

I have been researching this problem for a number of years now. We know that Daniel (thought to be Salomon's son was born 1778 in South Carolina. Some say that Solomon came from Craven County Va and brought young (baby) Daniel with him but nothing can be found to verify that. Solomon was in a number of court proceedings before going to Anderson County. We know that Daniel was born 1778 (some say 1798 but may be two separate people) in South Carolina. Another possibility is that the line goes back to Michael Mor Daugherty. Michael's son Charles (killed by Indians in 1763) had a son Daniel who in turn had a son Daniel who could have been the same age as our Daniel.

I do know that this Daniel was called Ell as I have a Bible family tree stating that.

I am not familiar with the James of which you speak.

Solomon or James Daugherty?

We are searching for information on the correct father for Daniel Daugherty (b.1798). Some researchers indicate that the father is James (b 1770) and many more believe that the father is Solomon (b 1775, d 1845). They moved to Anderson Co., TN during the early 1800's and their descendants remain there today.

Also, if the father is James, we found info that his father is William (Doughty) Daugherty, (b abt 1745, d 1770) who was married to Rachel Porcher. If the father is Solomon, does anyone have info on his ancestors?

Thanks.

Thanks for your response. I feel confident that our Daniel (born 12/1798 and died 12/1882 in Anderson Co., TN) was the father of our Ell M (born 1815). My husband is descended from Daniel's son Ell, his son Bird Rise, his son Reuben, his son Ell, and his son Eather. We have pictures of some old headstones and I'm going through those currently.

If only we'd started this when more of the older generations were alive.

Thanks.

He was a civil war vet. My grandmother is Jean Ester Williams by birth. She attended Strong Vincent High School and worked for many years at Modern Tool Co. on 11th Street in Erie Co.,PA My (step) G-Grandfather is Ephriam Fenstermacher assisted in raising my Grandmother Jean Williams with his wife Ester, My (step) G-Grandmother (my G-Grandmother Ann's sister). Ephriam Fenstermacher worked as a Core maker. I was told his funeral was in Conneaut County, Ohio. G-Grandmother Ann had several children, the following are sibling names recalled by Grandma Jean Williams: Charolet Balwin Ellan (adopted out) Arlene Anderson (married Bob or Robert Campbell) Charles Balwin Lawerence Balwin (married Evelyn) James "Jim" Anderson Kenneth Anderson (was told that he passed in 2003) I was told that Daugherty and Mong were married...I can't remember were the name fits in, I think from my G.G.-Grandfather and G.G.-Grandmothers' marriage. I was told that this Daugherty Family is from the areas of Conneaut Co. Ohio, Albion Co. Ohio, and Girard Co. Ohio but this may not be entire.

Re: William Daugherty Ohio Warren County 1831

I don't know if I'm helping or confusing - but I have a branch that is a work in process. It begins (not proven) with William Daugherty ca 1770-1826 and Mary Foster ca 1773-1826 who had three children I can trace Samuel b.1796, Almira b.1809, and William F b.1801. Samuel married Nancy Parks in Warren County, Ohio ca 1822. Samuel's son claimed to be born in 1830 in Oxford, Buter County, Ohio. Samuel moved on to St Charles, Missouri in the 1840s; Almira ended up in Anderson, Indiana; William F lived and raised a family in Pennsylvania (6 daughters and one son, Henry F). What little info I have comes in part from DAR pedigrees.

Mary Ann Daugherty

Glen, did you find out anymore about Mary ann Daugherty daughter of William Andrew Daugherty and Nancy Jane Taylor Phelps? Nancy Phelps was also my grandmother Alta Mane Phelps Daugherty's granmother so I guess Mary would be considered her aunt. and her grandmother was also her mother-in-law, since she was married to William's son. Ha! If we weren't messed up before we sure are now. Please reply and note e-mail change. Thanks Sylvia

Have either of you come across a woman named Action (or Acton) Daughtery/Doughtery who died between 1840-1850 in Delaware Co, Indiana?
I have an ancestor, Charles Redpath, who married her in 1840.
I would like to find more on her family.
