Great entry. I too share your ideals. I have recently begun a Daughety Family Tree for my daughter and her new husband, who is a Daughety. I cannot go further back than the early 1800s and desire any correct information available. He is a son of:

Need any ancesters of this man and his wife Lillian Unknown. She (b) 1887/88 and in 1920 they lived in Township 8 in Craven Co.,NC w/son Lewis R. (Louis according to S.S. death index who was (b) July 13,1918 and (d) Jan18,,2005 in Virginia Beach,VA.). They also had daughter Mary (b) 1921 (who (m) Alfred Edwards and lived in CT.) and other kids. Orign of the Surname Daughety?

The English surname Daughty and Doughty are phonetically equivalent, and the like-sounding surname Doty is fairly common in the US. The family of Enoch Daughty (son of Francis Daughty) miagrated from New York to VA pre-Revolutionary war. This family line has been traced back to the 1500s in England and is possibly the origin of some Daughety/Doughty/etc. lines of today..

It seems to be an unfounded common assumption that DAUGHETY is a minor variation of the Irish Daugherty, but the former is pronounced as "daughter , clip the 'er' and add 'y'" while Daugherty is a rough English phonetic rendering of a Gaelic name, prounounced something like "doch-er-tee" according to expatriate Irish acquaintances. The English Daughty seens to have well existed before the Anglo-Gaelic Daugherty was coined.

According to genealogists I have spoken with, some social organizations blurred the lines in the 1920-1950 era in order to establish pedigrees going way back, and these pedigrees are now of entertainment value only. Original documentation is difficult and expensive to search out.

I am interested in sharing information and ideas with others who want to protect the identity and integrety of the Daughety surname.

Dianna, Bessie Jenkins Daughety was my grandmother.
Amanda Marie Daughety-Heath,my mother, is the only one liveing of her brothers and sisters,she is 82. Allison Daughety is my 2nd cousin, her dad Ellis is my 1st cousin. duh
Diane Dusty Peanut and Sammy are my cousin. There are 11 of us kids living, mostly around Knoxville, Tn. I am sorry i haven;t answered sooner my grand have my computer for school work.

My great-grandfather's name was George Daughety. And most of my mother's family (the Daughety's) still live in the Pamlico-Craven-Jones County area. The reason I'm replying is that she actually mentioned the name Bessie Jenkins Daughety to me last night.

It appears that the majority of Daughetys in the US are in NC, and Kenston has the largest population.
My last known-for-sure ancestor was William J. (James, probably) Daughety, A Primitive Baptist Minister born about 1810, reportedly in North Carolina.

So far, I can't confirm family oral history and it appears that at least one Daughety was in the US prior to the Revolutionary War. Then, names appear in Virginia and North Carolina. At the time of the civil war, Texas, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama had Daughetys in the war.

Does anyone have reliable Daughety history fron around 1750?

In Georgia, Marion County around 1850's or in Mississippi Leake County around 1890's.
