Ancient family history - ALL DAUGHTONS

Hi, I am a 27 year old teacher in the North East of England who has spent some time researching my family history. For interest I shall outline it, as I suspect it links us all.

We were a landed family of some wealth and power in medieval France. However in the mid 12th century we were evicted en-masse, I'm not sure why. Two theories - 1. we supported the losing side in a feudal battle and lost all land subsequently being exiled. 2. we supported the Avignon Pope who was a rival for power to the Pope of Rome in succession disputes for leadership of the catholic church. This dispute was also lost and the Pope in Rome evicted us and we fled abroad.

Either way our family (as good catholics)found its way en-masse to southern Ireland in about 1150 A.D. We remained in Ireland for roughly the next 700 years. I know that most of the family moved steadily to the United States in the 1800's and 1900's; hence there being so many Daughtons over there.

Ireland has little record of our family and England has even fewer. Suprisingly hardly any Daughtons came to England. My great grandfather eloped at the turn of the century to marry a woman who was dissapproved of by the family. He moved to Cardiff in S.Wales (which is where my father is from) and this is the only strain of the Daughton family in England. So we are relative new comers to England, me being only 3rd generation native.

If anybody can add to this I would be grateful fo contact at stephen.daughton@talk21.com

Thanks and it's lovely to know that my family is so much bigger than I knew of. Imagine having a family of 30 in one country then finding out there are thousands more of you elsewhere - great.
