James was my great-great grandfather, born 01 Nov 1831 in Clinton Township, Wayne County, PA. He served in Co. I, 58th Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry Volunteers during the Civil War. According to his Pension Records, he also went by the surname DAUTON since he could not read or write. Also according to these records, his first wife was Phoebe LEWIS, who died in either 1866 or 1876 in Dallas, PA. Found him in the 1880 Census with wife Olive and children. The 1890 Union Soldier Schedule shows that James and Olive were living in either Newtown or Ransom townships, Lackawanna County, PA. Do not know when Olive died. In the 1900 Census he is living in Carbondale, PA with wife Sarah (nee STOUT). James was killed when he was hit by a train in Carbondale on 31 Mar 1911. Sarah died 13 Nov 1909. Pension records show that a daughter of the Daughton/Stout marriage, Viola, was filing a claim to receive her father's benefits.
Looking for anyone who may have a connection to any of these families.
