Yes, I have the information you need.
My grandfather was Arthur William Daunt. He has born in Cullen, Cork approximately 1854. I gleaned this information from the English Census of 1911. Have no idea who his parents were. I do know he joined the Royal Irish Constabulary aged 19. He married my grandmother, Jane Taylor(born Dublin approx 1876) in 1898. I'm assuming the marriage took place in Ireland, possibly Dublin. Arthur W and Jane were included in the Irish Census of 1901 living in Liskeveen (Ballymurreen, Tipperary. By this time Arthur W and Jane had two girls, Jane and Olivia. Arthur was aged 47 with his occupation recorded as a farmer. Jane was just 23. Not long after that, they decided to emigrate to London, UK. According to the English Census of 1911, they were living in Chiswick, West London. Their first English-born child was William Daunt, born 1904. They went on to have several children. My father, Walter Jordan, was born in 1912. As far as I am aware, Arthur W died in London aged 78. I'm estimating that was 1932. Jane survived into the 1950s. What I'm really seeking here is the parentage of Arthur William Daunt. Grateful for any information.

hi
well

olivia lilla daunt-owlpen geneology:
She married William Daunt 1904 in St. Colman's Catholic Church, Cobh, son of

Nicholas Daunt and Elizabeth Busteed. He was born 01 May 1876, and died 1954 in Crosshaven Hill, Co. Cork.

Notes for William Daunt:

IGI / British Isles: William Daunt, born 1 May 1876, Cork, Ireland, son of Nicholas George Daunt and Elizabeth

Daunt Busteed, Batch No. C006262.
on williams birth record it says mother: Elizabeth daunt busteed, so i would assume her mother was a daunt?

then you sent me this:
On 2 April 1872, Nicholas George married Elizabeth Letitia Busteed, the daughter of John Busteed.[if not the john i think which john do you mean?] They married at Holy Trinity Church in Cork City.

so any help would be great. and you only sent nicholas george-and his desendants no one before him.so any info of his parents and as far back as you have would be very helpful.

thanks
Laura
Laura,
Good to hear from you again.
Yes, two Busteed brothers married two Daunt sisters in the early part of the 19th century. Here is part of their history:
In 1740, Martha Daunt, the second daughter of Henry Daunt of Knocknamana and Fahalea, Gentleman, married Thomas Busteed of Ballinrea, Cork City. Martha was Thomas’ first wife and when her father died she inherited £350, her father’s workbed and his wife’s diamond ring. Thomas and Martha had five children, two sons and five daughters.
One of Thomas and Martha’s sons, Thomas Busteed (b. 1749) married Elizabeth Shaw in 1770 and had seven sons and three daughters. Two of the sons, Capt. Henry Busteed of Stonehill and Rev. John Busteed of Ballinrea married Daunt sisters.
Capt. Henry Busteed of Stonehill and Maryville was born in 1774. In 1807 he married Eliza Simpson the widow of Mr. Nevin and had one child. On the 14th of September 1809, Henry married Letitia Daunt at Douglas Church. They had seven children. Two of their sons married Daunts and did two of their daughters. By 1819 Henry was a Captain serving in the Grenadier Guards in Carrigaline, co. Cork. He died at Stonehill, Carrigaline in 1855. Letitia was the daughter of Thomas Digby Daunt and his wife Frances Daunt (first cousins). She died on 22 Nov 1836 and was buried at Kilanully, co. Cork.
Rev. John Busteed of Ballinrea was born in 1775. He attended Trinity College Dublin at the age of 17 in 1793 and received his B.A. in 1798. He was the curate for St. Luke’s in Douglas and preached for 65 years. On 16 December 1824 John married Frances Daunt, the eldest daughter of Thomas Digby Daunt and his wife Frances Daunt. They never had children. Frances died on 16 November 1844 and John died on 16 March 1865.

Regarding your query on Elizabeth L. Busteed: Rev. John Busteed did not have children that I have ever found. Two of his brothers had daughters named Elizabeth:
Lt. Charles Busteed married Dorothea White and had a daughter Elizabeth White Busteed who died unmarried in 1890.
Capt Henry Busteed and his wife Letitia had a daughter Elizabeth Ann Busteed, born 1814, who married Henry James Harris in 1835.
If you could please send information on Elizabeth L. Busteed, I will see what I can find in my records.
If you would like further information on the ancestors of Nicholas George Daunt please tell me how far back you currently go with information.
Any further information you have gathered on the Daunts or Busteeds would be gratefully appreciated.
Please email me at dauntdd2@gmail.com. Thanks. Diana
Greetings - I believe I have the information you need about your Arthur Daunt married to Elizabeth, but you didn't supply any dates with your query so I hope this helps.
Arthur William Wallace Daunt, born 21 May 1885 in Millfield, New South Wales (NSW), Australia. (Birth Registration #1885/34142.) He married at age 30 in 1916 at St. Leonards, Sydney, NSW, to Elizabeth Hannah Weaver, age 23, the dau of William Weaver and Jane (nee Tyler). He died in 1968 and was buried on 26 Aug 1968 in Waverly area Sydney, General Lawn AA Row 3, Grave 424.
The three children I have for him are: Winifred Daunt, born 1916; Arthur Richard Daunt born 1918; and Terence Daunt born about 1921. I did not know he had a son Patrick.
Terence Daunt was in WWII as an able seaman in the Royal Australian Naval Reserves, enlisted on 15 July 1940 at Matraville, NSW. He died on 12 Feb 1944, age 23, and his name is engraved at the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Devon, UK, Panel 92, Column 3. Check the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website.
Arthur Richard Daunt was a stoker in the Royal Aust Naval Reserve and died on 20 Nov 1941. He enlisted on 14 Oct 1940 at Matraville, Sydney and is listed as Arthur Robert Daunt on the Plymouth Naval Memorial, Panel 61, Col. 1. The WWII Nominal Roll shows his date of birth as 3 Aug 1918 at Haberfield, NSW. His last posting was on HMAS Sydney and his next of kin: Marjorie Daunt, his wife. They had one child that I know of: Terrance Arthur Daunt who died in 1942 in Annandale, NSW (Death Reg: 1942/15184).
I have the ancestry of this family also. If you could please tell me more about the other son Patrick, I would appreciate it. That is, of course, if this is the correct Arthur Daunt.
I noticed your posting and hope you are still on this thread.
I'm looking for information about John Daunt a shoemaker in Cork (my 3xG Grandfather) who I think married Harriet Danckert. His son Howard Gillman Daunt lived, married and died in Dublin, and my G Grandmother Harriet was born in Kingstown / Dun LAoghaire. I haven't found her baptism records however. She had an older brother Howard Gillman Daunt who emigrated as a toddler with his father John to Australia, but I'm not sure he stayed there when grown up: I did think I had found him in the US.
Anyhow I'm particularly interested to find anything about Howard senior, and his father John, and also my GGrandmother Harriet.
Any information you think might help would be welcome.

Re: looking for info on Nicholas DAUNT family from Cork

Hello, here is some information on Nicholas George Daunt and Elizabeth Busteed:

Nicholas and Elizabeth (nee Busteed) Daunt. Nicholas George Daunt was baptized on 29 Sept 1840 in Carrigaline, co. Cork, Ireland. He was known as "of Crosshaven Hill" then later "of Mill St., Cork City" and later "of Rochelle, Blackrock Road". He was a farmer, a mariner, a caretaker for Rochelle School in Blackrock, and from 1876 to 1880 a gardiner. In 1872 Nicholas Daunt, a mariner, then living in Dean St, Cork City, married Elizabeth Letitia Busteed the daughter of John Busteed. They were married in St. Finbarr's Parish at Holy Trinity Church on the 2nd of April 1872. The marriage record shows Nicholas was the son of Stephen Daunt. The witnesses were William H. Holland and Eliza Holland.

The couple had six children and possibly eight. They were Mary Elizabeth Daunt (b.1873); George Seymour Daunt (b.1875); William Daunt (1876-1954); Nicholas Daunt (1877-1878); Stephen Daunt (1879-1879); Elizabeth Emily Daunt (1880-1958); Richard Henry Daunt (1881-1882); and possibly Lillian, which is a nickname for Elizabeth; and Ann Daunt. I am not sure about Lillian and Ann.

I hope this info helped. I have information on both Nicholas and Elizabeth (nee Busteed) Daunt's parents and on back if you are interested. If you would like further information please email me at: daunt.dd2@comcast.net Thank you.

If you would please tell me which child is your great grandparent, and who are you parents. Thank you. Diana

Will need to get some boxes down from the loft before I get back to you on Howard, etc.

I'm looking for information about Howard Gilbert Daunt: his daughter Harriett Elizabeth married my GGrandfather Thomas John Airey in St Mark's church, Dublin 14 Dec 1871. At that time Howard Daunt was a clockmaker. He may have earlier been an engineer. Any information, connections, copies of parish records would be very welcome. I'm not very sure yet how to find things out in Ireland. I'd like any information about him, his wife and ancestors, and children.

Hi:

Unfortunately, I have no information on this. For the Daunt part, I found a few things from an online search that you can check:

http://myhome.ispdr.net.au/~mgrogan/cork/po.htm
This has a listing for a William Daunt of Dillsgrove, Enniskeane.

http://www.owlpen.com/Daunt%20of%20Owlpen%20genealogy.pdf

This is a huge genealogy of the Daunt family who were originally from Gloucester, England but settled in County Cork in Elizabethan times.

There are a couple of books about the Daunt family on microfilm that are available to order from the LDS family history centre:

Daunt family, with ties to the Travers family of County Cork FHL BRITISH Film 1951821

Family descendants of Dr. Thomas Achilles Daunt, 1780-1861 and Mary Coghlan, 1786-1866 of "Fahalea", Carrigaline, Co. Cork, Ireland

FHL BRITISH Film 1696575 Item 15

Hope these help.

Regards,

Carol Collins

Ah, but there are still Daunts living in co. Cork in Ireland and still on the land they acquire in the 1600s. I know of an Arthur William Wallace Daunt who married Elizabeth Hannah Weaver in 1916. He was the son of Arthur William Daunt who married Laura Margaret Johnston in 1884. Could one of these be your Arthur? If not I would need more information to sort him out from all the Arthur Daunts that I know about. Such as his birth year, where he was born, etc.

Re: looking for info on DAUNT family from Cork

I am trying to find the link between the Daunts you mention and Cork. My bother Denny Daunt and I (Matthew) were born in 1975 and 1971 respectively in Colchester, UK. Our father is Edward Basil Daunt (born in Paris 1926) and Jane Daunt (nee Porter, 1943 Colchester).
E.B. Daunt is the only child of Gordon Daunt (Australian) and Nina Daunt (nee Popov - of a Russian noble family relocated in France after the Bolshevik Revolution. Growing up and living in St Petersburg, Nina was a frequent playmate of Princess Anastasia as her Aunt was lady in waiting to the Czarina).
Gordon & Nina lived in France but Gordon died in a car accident (at the time he was in the Red Cross) when my father was still very young. The Nazi occupation of France prompted Nina's eventual relocation to Colchester while my father joined the British Royal Navy, but as an Australian citizen which he still is.
My father's grandfather was Hubert John Daunt who was married to Winnifred Daunt. They lived in France before 1939 then lived in Australia where my father last saw them in 1945/6 in Sydney. They lived in Kirribilli, not far from where I too now live in Sydney.
Hubert had other offspring - Yvonne Daunt (a dancer) who lived in Paris and then married Allan Stein whom she divorced. She remarried and settled in San Francisco. My grandmother Nina was always upset that they had lost touch and it would be nice to know more about her life after France.
The other offspring of Hubert's was "Uncle Denny", whom my brother is named after. Denny's name was more like Walter Dennis Daunt. He too lived in France but I haven't much information about him.
Hubert was a son of John Charles Campbell Daunt V.C. who in turn it seems was a son of Richard William Daunt, born in Cork, Ireland.
J.C.C Daunt was born in Normandy, France with 2 other siblings Evelina and Walter Dickens Daunt.
J.C.C. was decorated with the Victoria Cross for his actions in the Indian Mutiny, serving in the British Army. More on this can be found in Wikipedia and in V.C. websites. Incidentally, the "Daunt Family" mentioned at the recent re-dedication at his grave in Redland Parish in Bristol, were my parents. They are extremely grateful to those who reconnected them with J.C.C. and his final resting place.
The Richard Daunt you mention would then be my great-great-great grandfather. I don't know how he is related to the Daunts of Ireland and, therefore, to the Daunts of Owlpen and I would really liked to make those connections.
I hope this potted history was of interest.
If you'd like to contact me in person please email me at mattd@bwm.com.au

Matthew Daunt

I actually just found out about the Owlpen Manor thing from Sheila Francis about two weeks ago, and have been trying to research it ever since, to figure out how the Daunt/Busteeds were related to that family.

That explains why I kept finding the Busteed name with the Daunt name in farther back generations.

I'd love any information you've got to share. They were also my ggg-grandparents, so it appears we are 3rd cousins.

My email address is evie.mortensen@gmail.com.

I'm also a descendant of Letitia Busteed. It's nice to hear from someone still in the UK on the Daunt family.

If there is anyway you could perhaps share any of your information on the Daunt family prior to 1450 it would be much appreciated by this (very far) distant cousin here in the US.

feel free to drop me a line here or directly at jain513@yahoo.com

- Jane

They were my ggg-grand parents and I'll be more than happy to share what ever I have on them. I don't have a great deal of information, but from what I've heard told from others in my family apparently their marriage was part of an attempt to consolidate the Daunt name.

Jane Busteed was actually more related to the original line of Daunt than her husband. William Daunt was a descendant of part of the family that had broken away from the main line. I do not know the exact reasoning and I unfortunately don't have any hard documents to back it up.

I have the direct lineage for Jane Busteed to the Daunt’s living at Owlpen, all the way back to Thomas Daunt of Wotton-under-Edge. William Daunt is a bit muddier, I don’t know weather records for that side of the family were just not kept or something happened to them. I've only gotten about one generation back on him with no good dates to go by.
