He has sent me extensive family history.
This would not have happened without your help.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Dave

Hi Emma,
Thank you for all of your efforts. It is much appreciated.
I will look for the Staggs in Canada and see what I can find.
Victor and Emily had two daughters, Freda and Edith, and from the records that I have been able to locate, Freda was born July 10 1912 in North Vancouver and Edith was born July 14 1912 in North Vancouver. Obviously something is wrong there! Carole Lewis, my aunt Freda's daughter has confirmed Freda's birth date, so Edith's must be incorrect.
Thank you again for all you have done.
Dave

Hello Dave,
I hope you don't get this twice, says it wasn't sent.
I wanted to clarify who was in the 1881 census at 31 Richmond Road Bristol, as i wrote it a bit vaguely !

Victor Samuel aged 15 , a scholar, is here with sisters Eliza and Rosalinda ( who are both governesses) and another brother Hiram Davey who is a farmer.

Also just found the Davey family in 1860 census ( can't read address) and the family includes oldest child Francis born 1850 as well ( victor is not born yet).
I haven't found any more about Victor yet, but a little on his siblings

Rosalinda Davey married Theodore Stagg in 1885, they had 3 children: Francis Victor Stagg, Rosalinda Violet Stagg and Percy Greenfield Stagg. The family is scattered in 1901 census and Rosalinda and 12 year old Violet are at 63 City Road Bristol, Rosalinda is a dressmaker, and at 67 City Road her sister Eliza Davey is a teacher of music and drawing.
In 1908 the Staggs emigrate to Canada, did they go with Victor ??

Hiram John Davey marries Mary Ball in 1882 and is recorded in the city as living at 146 Brynland Avenue with his wife and her parents, he is a retired Dairyman and died in 1925
I am still looking for Victor Samuel, but piecing together his siblings could well help !
Regards
Emma

Hello Emma,
I have managed to get a little more information and am wondering if you could help me further. I know Victor Samuel Davey died in North Vancouver in 1912. I have made no other discoveries about him.
Regarding Emily Barnard, I found she was born to Thomas James Barnard and Annie Wright on May 1 1883. I located Thomas James Barnard on the 1881 census and have a list of children up to that point. At that time they were living at 7 Silver St., Bristol.
Thomas and Annie were married March 30 1862 at St. Philip & St. Jacob, Bristol, Cloucester. Annie's father was Thomas Wright and Thomas' father was James Barnard.
I am still at a loss concerning Victor Samuel Davey. I cannot find him on any UK census (Familysearch.org site)
Any ideas?
Dave

Charles James HEFFER was L/Cpl 2093 in 1/5 Battalion Suffolk Regiment aged 22 killed in Action on 20 Sept 1915. He seems to have been born in the same quarter that Rose Louisa HEFFER married James Leverly CROSS (Q2-1892) He variously is named as HEFFER or CROSS-HEFFER)
Researching the Exning War memorial I would dearly like a photo of Charles ( or family group) if anyone finds one. There are two DAVEY brothers on Memorial,George William and Walter Jamesand any extra on them would be appreciated also

Who is Lois - Wife of William Davey - Both Buried Greenville, Orange, NY?

Can anyone identify Lois, the wife of William Davey in burials below? This is a small cemetery on private land and I am wondering if she ties into the main families here: Blizzard or Hallock. Or, maybe she and William were just neighbors to the Hallocks and Blizzards?

Hallock and Blizzard Family Cemetery
Greenville, Orange, New York

William Davey, d 09/30/1873, age 80y,4m
Lois, wife of Wm Davey, d 06/25/1847, age 59-8-20
Irenav, dau of William and Lois Davey, b 11/15/1831, d 06/24/1868.

It appears from census recods that he married after Lois' death to a woman named Sally and is found in 1850 and 1870 in Greenville, Orange, New York (post office: Minisink). In 1870, 83 yrs old, in presumed son Bradford Davey's house.

Thanks for your support.

FWIW - I am a Hallock Researcher.

Re: Thomas J Davey's parents?

Statutory records of births, deaths & marriages started in Ireland on 1.1.1864 (1st April 1845 for Protestant and Non-Conformist marriages). Prior to that you are heavily dependant on church records, where they exist. Most early Irish censuses have been destroyed so no help there. You really need to try and find out a little more about the family from sources outside Ireland. (Otherwise it’s a needle in a haystack).

To use church records effectively, because there’s no centralised index, ideally you need to know the ancestor’s exact denomination, townland and parish in Ireland. Good sources are immigration & naturalisation records which can show town/townland of origin as well as parents and siblings travelling together. Check every possible census. Census returns sometimes include exact place of birth, instead of just “Ireland”. Look out also for other Irish people nearby in the censuses. Immigrants often settled near people they knew from home. Check any military records, old diaries, gravestones, family bibles, wills and obituaries. Marriage certs in some locations (e.g. US States) can include places of birth, parents, etc for bride and groom. Funeral home records can be very informative. US Death certs can show parents names.
I am looking for any information about my great-great-great grandparents who were born in Ireland and had my great great grandpa Thomas James Davey in 1861. Thomas moved to the states and settled in Ohio in 1883. He married Margaret Moran (b. in England in 1867) in 1890 and they had 9 children Edward, Thomas Jr, Vincent, Andrew, Mildred, Wilfred, Emmett, Coletta and Lloyd. Any ideas on how to find out more about his parents. Thank you, Michael

hi Sandra

thanks for your message. i have found only 1 cousin so far
who is related to me on the Knights side of the family,
through my 3 x Great Grandfather's brother. She lives in Sunderland and is a nurse at Newcastle Hospital.
we are in regular contact.
My link to your husband Ian is also 3 x Great Grandparents
from the other side of the family.
I live in Harlow, Essex where I have lived since 1959. I
am now retired nearing my 78th birthday, but never knew
anything about my family having been placed in the care of
Middlesex County Council Childrens Dept at the tender age of
12 days. It wasn't until I reached adulthood that I started looking into my heritage and after a great deal of work
managed to trace my mother in America when I was 46 years old. It was a bit of a shock for her when I wrote
introducing myself.
I have family out there in New Hampshire who I am in
constant touch with. My mother died some time ago and I
have visited them on 7 occasions. Will look forward to
hearing from you further in due course.
best wishes
Peter
Hello again Peter

It is lovely to be in touch with you and add you to our "family history cousins". It is quite a long list now, in England, USA, Australia and New Zealand. We live in England, near Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire where we retired to a few years ago.

Where do you live? And are you in contact with June Wilson, another descendent of James?

You seem to know pretty much what we do with regards to the Meadows. We are stuck finding Robert's parentage, 'though another FH cousin has a theory which would then link us through many marriages to Catherine Middleton, the Duchess of Edinburgh !!

When I have another look at my Davey research I shall be in touch again. Just to say here that George is Ian's (my husband's) great, great grandfather; making John & Mary his 3 x great grandparents.

Do you know about Charles and the Mormons? Lots of cousins in USA.

We were lucky that I found your entry as I rarely look on the message board - serendipity.

Get back to you when I can
Sandra Davey

hi Sandra
Have been looking further into my family tree records.
George Davey born 1834 and James Davey born 1836 were the
youngest of the family. Their children would have been cousins, therefore your husband and I must be something
like 4th cousins. John and Mary Davey, their parents, had 7
children, but I haven't done any research into their
families, hard enough doing my own. Have visited the various
villages in Suffolk where it all happened years ago but
there is little or no nothing to learn there.
I do know that John Meadows, Mary's father, was born in 1720
was married twice, his second wife being Sarah Knivett, and Mary was born in 1799 making him 79 at the time of her birth
My best regards

Peter

hi Sandra.
Like you I have spent many years researching my family and I
can tell you that my great grandfather, Henry Knights
married Mary Ann Davey in 1877. Mary Ann was the daughter of
James Davey born in Saxstead, Suffolk in 1836. He was the son
of John Davey and Mary Meadows of Saxstead. I have traced the Meadows family back to 1702 when Robert Meadows married a
Mary Thranson in 1727 and lived in the village of Monk Soham.
Somehow the " s " in my family name of Knights got dropped
when I was born which made life a bit difficult when searching the past.
Would like to hear more from you or help you with more
info. should you wish to extend contact.
My best regards to you

Peter

Hi, I'm not sure where Illogan and Camborne are! I have a copy of this book (it was never really published, just sent to the families) as does the Historical Society in Napanee, Ontario, Canada. The book starts in about 1555 in England, then to the US, then to Canada. If I can help, I'd be happy to! Thanks, Laurie Carter

Do you have John Davey (1612-1678) m. Tryphene Reynell. John's parents were John Davie (1589-1654) m. Juliana Strode. The line prior to that is John Davie (1560-1612) m. Margaret Southcott. This line traces to King Charles the First and back to Clovis the First. I am descended from Charles Henry Davey and Helen Quiel. I live in Minnesota. Charles Davey's ancestry line included Humphry Davey. It would be nice if we all could share the same researched information.

Shelley

Hi Paul, as you say it is wonderful news if I have at last found you. Auntie Mabel married a Mr Smith but I do not know anything of them, Auntie Ann married Jack Cole (we always called him uncle Jack) and they had one son called Victor (they lived in Brighton) who married a girl called Eileen. Auntie Winn married uncle Fred Fentiman(they lived in Wiltshire)and they had one daughter Janis.

I am not sure how to start on your side of the family, I am so pleased that I do not know where to start.

JOhn Ernest was my grandfather and I can give you details of the Australian family. I know that at least two of his sisters moved to Canada. Do you know anything of them?
I think it was Ann who married Edmond Smith, a policeman.

Hello Iris. It sounds like we have the same ancestor. That's wonderful news for me. I notice you have made severasl postings. I have not read them all yet, but have lots of questions, as I am sure you do. I have lots on the Boyles, but am stuck on John Davey's parentage. Perhaps you can help.
