Josiah Davidson/Susannah "Suky" Hughes-DNA Results are In

Per DNA testing, it is now known that the Josiah Davidson (born about 1802) who married Susannah "Suky" Hughes (born about 1804; she was out of Prince Edward Co., VA) was a member of "DNA Family 7" on the Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA website at www.davidsongenes.org. In the early-1800s, there were two unrelated Davidson/Davison families in Buckingham Co., VA, and each of these two families have DNA donors in the testing project. One of these two unrelated families is represented by the above-referenced Family 7, and the other family is represented by Family 10 (my Davidson family).

Family 7 has been traced back to PA in the mid-1700s, and quite a few members of that family were in the Bedford/Campbell Co., VA area by at least the 1770s. Some members of this family "found their way" to Buckingham Co., VA (at least one of them came to Buckingham after having been in GA in the late-1700s), and a Stephen Davison from this family married a Lucy Neighbours in Buckingham or Prince Edward Co., VA around 1808, as I recall. The 1820 Buckingham census showed this Stephen Davison (as well as an older Stephen Davidson who was a member of my Family 10), as well as what appears to have been a Henry Davidson and a Joseph Davidson who were apparently also part of Family 7. There had also been a John Davidson on the 1810 Buckingham census, and it now seems almost certain that he was also a member of Family 7 (he was a very close neighbor of Littleberry Hughes and John Hughes). He was PROBABLY the same John Davidson who obtained land in Buckingham in 1792, and I would not be too surprised if he came to VA from GA. I believe that this John Davidson was the older of the two John Davidsons who appeared on the 1820 census in Wilson Co., TN (though there is no "hard proof" of that).

Note: Per a Bible record, the father of the Josiah Davidson who married Suky Hughes was an older Josiah Davidson who married an Ann McCauley.

The above DNA test results show that, unlike what some researchers have suspected in the past, the above Josiah Davidson was NOT out of the family of John Davison (died about 1754) of Prince Edward Co., VA (PECo) and who was married to Ann Sons/Soanes. That Davison family in PECo also has several DNA donors in the DNA testing project, and they are represented by "DNA Family 5." In addition, a descendant and excellent researcher of Family 5 states that the George Davison in that family, who some have claimed was the father of the above Josiah Davidson who married Suky Hughes, definitely had no child named Josiah.

There had been an Alexander Davidson on the 1764 Buckingham tithe list (along with several known members of "DNA Family 10"). It strongly appears that Alexander Davidson was NOT part of Family 5, Family 7 or Family 10, so there were probably at least four unrelated Davidson/Davison families in the Buckingham/Prince Edward Co., VA area in the 1700s.

Note: The Reverend Samuel Davidson of Campbell Co., VA and then Appomattox Co., VA (the Reverend died about 1861 and was married to Frances Oglesby), and who was the pastor of Red Oak Baptist Church for 40+ years, was also a member of Family 7. Another Samuel Davidson out of Campbell Co., VA, who married Elizabeth Thornhill and who died in Appomattox Co., VA in 1848, however, was a son of the above Alexander Davidson. We really need a DNA donor who "traces back" to that Alexander Davidson (who died in Campbell Co,, VA around 1800).

Thomas and Sarah Davidson, Dickson Co., TN

Hello,
I am looking to connect with researchers of Thomas and Sarah Davidson, parents of Jesse, Delila (wife of John W. Thomas), Howell A., James, and Abram (March 6, 1830 last settlement to Sarah Davidson, Dickson County, TN).
I have seen several trees listing the sons, but none with details related to Delila Davidson Thomas. It is somewhat curious as she is somewhat easy to locate on record. In 1840 John Thomas is living but a few households away from Howell Davidson. Delila is then found on 1850 and 1860 Dickson County census along with her children (Howell Calvin, Eliza, James D., Minor B., and Christopher). While hoping to obtain further information on Delila, I am primarily interested in the Thomas line as this is that of my father.
I have a good deal of information on Delila and her children that I am willing to share if anyone is interested in including the female descendant of this line.
My father's line is as follows:
The Rev. Howell Calvin Thomas, 1838, married 1st Thursa Garton, 2nd Margaret Bryant; Howell and and Thursa were parents of John Washington Thomas married Elizabeth Zilphia White; John and Elizabeth were the parents of McClain Thomas; McClain Thomas married Nelle Weems who were parents to my father, Thomas McClain Thomas.
Robin Garland

Looking for any information about the second marriage of Sam Davidson. First marriage was to Mary Lou Cade and second wife's maiden name is possibly Brown. He died in 1974 at Christoval, Texas, and was survived by two daughters and one son from first marriage. I am looking for information on children (believe to be 2 or 3 sons) from second marriage. Sam was my husband's grandfather and he has little knowledge of the Davidson family roots.

DNA Davidsons thru Alexander

I'm working on the documentation to prove our Davidson/Davison line.

My DNA cousin (Steve) is from:

Alexander>John>William>Joseph Sr.>Joseph Jr.>Morgan

I believe I'm down:

Alexander>Samuel>Moses>Samuel>Moses>Samuel H.>William E.>Mont E.

So, if the DNA % is correct that we share a common ancestor in 6-8 generations...it would be Alexander. We are waiting on the 67 marker upgrade, but with 37 markers right now I think this is the connection. (I'd love to hear from anyone else who believes they belong in Alexanders lineage)

- sandymento@earthlink.net

I am looking for a male decendent of Thomas J. Davidson who is a member of the Davidson DNA project and who would be willing to share information with me. My grandfather was a Davidson, he has no remaining living male children. I am female, so the project doesn't pertain to me. Am interested in knowing where this line originates.

Keeta

I would love a copy of the book... let me know. I am REALLY confused. My mother is Tana Hardin, father Stanley Hardin, Father John W. Hardin, Mother Zula Zong Davidson, HER father James Falls Davidson, I have married to Minerva Jane Wilson, James Falls Davidson's father George Davidson (married to Sarah Howard), his father George Davidson (married to Rosanna Falls), his father Col. George Davidson (married to Catherine Reece), whose father is John Davidson married to Mary Morrison. Am I on the right family path here? I have sketchy dates here and I am trying to find all of the info on these people.

John Goolman DAVIDSON

When going though my father's genealogy papers I found a paper written by Eugene M Davidson, Rocky Gap, Virginia, 1947. It is titled: "Notes Relative to The Descendants of John Goolman Davidson". In this paper he writes "the descendants of John Goolman Davidson owe a debt of everlasting gratitude to historiams like, A.H. Davidson ( who had contacted Eugene Davidson in 1926), J.N. Harman, F.B. Kegley, John P. Hale, William Pendleton, Bickley and others". Is there anyone out there that might know where the genealogy records are that these people compiled many years ago? Eugene Davidson also mentions a Mrs. Allen from Lincoln, Nebraska. Mrs. Allen reported that she was a sister to William Jennings Bryan and their grandmother was a Davidson. I might be able to give some JGD descendants some addtional information. I haven't been able to connect my family to JGD.

Josiah DAVIDSON -- b. 1802 VA

I am researching the Josiah Davidson family. He was born in 1802, PECO, VA. Supposedly the son of Josiah (John) Davidson and Ann McCauley. He married Susan Hughes in 1824. However, I have not been able to verify this. They may be connected to the Edward, David and William Davidsons. I know they were connected to the Powell Hughes family in VA. Can you be of any help.

Thanks

OLD POSTCARD: Marie Davidson, b.1898, Velda, b.1901, Albert, b.1906

I have an original postcard photograph of “Marie, Velda and Albert Davidson”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Marie looks to be about 10, Velda about 7, and Albert, about age 2. Photo was taken in about 1908.

I found the children in the 1910 census for Taylor (Appanoose Co.) IA, living with their parents, Otto G. and Dora Davidson. Otto was 36 and Dora was 39, while L. Marie was age 12, Velda E. was age 10, and William Albert was age 4. In the 1920 census for Benton (Adair Co.) MO, the family showed Otto G. Davidson, 46; wife Elva D., age 49; Velda I., 19; Albert W., 14, and son Merrill A., 7.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to the Davidson family.

Joseph Davidson - Wythe County, VA

Researching Joseph Davidson who died between 1822-1825 in Wythe County VA. His wife was Jean who died as well around 1825. All of the children were orphaned. One of the children was Joseph J. Davidson who went to Jonesville, VA and on to Texas later in life. I have the will of Joseph Davidson for any who are interested. I'm curious if anyone knows who Joseph's parents were.

I'm interested in finding information about my ggf, who lived for a time in southwestern Arkansas. He traveled a lot and worked on the railroad and was possibly American Indian in appearance. He was married to my ggm Mary Davidson and had at least one subsequent marriage resulting in children who were supposedly abandoned and ill with polio or something, and possibly a previous marriage. Due to ancient family politics know virtually nothing about him. Thanks all!

George DAVIDSON, b. 1799 WV

The following post was made several years ago in the Quaker-Roots-L mailing list and there was no response. The George Davidson mentioned in the post is my 3rd great-grandfather. I am extremely interested in knowning about the Rees and Ann also mentioned. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Richard Davison

------------------------------------

From: "foxit" < foxit@ev1.net>
Subject: [Q-R] Davidson, Lewis
Date: Sun, 2 Dec 2001 21:40:22 -0600
Hello List,

I am new to this list and to Quaker research altogether. Perhaps someone out there can help me with my beginning efforts.

My four times great grandfather, Ephraim Marble, married a lady named Leanna Davidson. I believe her father was Rees Davidson who married Ann Lewis (father, Thomas Lewis?) in 1797, Berkeley County, VA (later becoming West Virginia) but do not have absolute proof yet. Rees appears in Fayette County, PA in the 1810 Federal Census right next to my Marble family. He died in Wayne County, OH on 15 Nov, 1814, with Thomas Lewis, Morgan Lewis, and James Glass as his administrators. Rees's wife, Ann, is listed on the 1820 Harrison County, OH census. Living next to her is my Ephraim Marble and family, with Thomas Lewis in close proximity.

I have learned of a George Davidson, son of Rees and Ann Davidson, (born 1799 in Berkeley, WVA), from a kind gentleman on the Fayette County, PA list who found him in Hinshaw's, Volume IV. He was in the Short Creek MM. All that causes me to think my Rees Davidson was of the Quaker persuasion himself, but I would like to find hard evidence.

Any suggestions as to how to proceed?

Mary Anna Fox
Davidsons at Y-search

Family Tree DNA has a free public service where you can upload your DNA results into a Y-search database. You can then compare your matches with other Davidsons and non Davidsons. This might be of some intrest to some researchers. I have been noticed that several families seem to have distant matches with the Cummings/Comyn,MacPhersons and MacKay's, among other names that were part of the original Clan Chatten which was an ancient confederation of clans in Scotland.

I think there are only 77 Davidsons that have uploaded there results to Y-Search and there are 144 in the DNA project.

Dennis

Tragedy strikes the DAVIDSON Family of Cape Girardeau Again

W. T. DAVIDSON, a 14 year old boy living with his mother and brother, on South Ellis street, was accidentally shot by his brother, Wilken, several years his senior, Sunday morning about 10 o'clock while the boys were cleaning a Colt 32 caliber revolver.

The mother of the boys has been away from the city for the past week visiting friends and relatives in Kennett and they got out the revolver Sunday morning to give it a good cleaning. Wilken had the gun in his hands and in some manner accidentally discharged it, the bullet striking his younger brother, who was sitting near him, in the right side, near the hip bone, and passing entirely through the hip.

Neighbors who heard the report of the gun hurried to the DAVIDSON home, where they found the boy badly hurt and immediatly sent for Dr. Paul R Williams, the Harrig surgeon. Dr. Williams hurried to the DAVIDSON home and gave the lad temporary treatment and then had him conveyed to St. Francis hospital, where he and Dr. John D Porterfield operated on him.

The doctors found that the bullet had passed through one loop of intestines and had grazed the hip bone, slightly splintering it, making it a very dangerous wound.

The lad rested very well Sunday afternoon and night, much better tan the doctors had anticipated, and was reported this morning as improving rapidly.

Mrs. DAVIDISON, mother of the boy, was telephoned shortly after the accident occurred and arrived here from Kennett on the early train today. She was nearly overcome when the news of the accident reached her, but upon arriving here and finding her son getting so nicely was greatly relieved. August 1914

*
DAVIDSON boy dies from bullet wound

W. T. DAVIDSON, the 14 year old boy who was accidentally shot by his brother, Wilton, last Tuesday morning, died at St. Francis Hospital yesterday morning at 4 o'clock, just one week after receiving the bullet wound.

As reported to the Republican last Monday, the DAVIDSON boys were cleaning a pistol when it accidentally discharged and the bullet too effect in the young boy's right side, passing entirely through and coming out the back. One loop of intestines was cut pretty badly by the bullet, which caused some alarm to be felt over the outcome, but he got along fairly well until Saturday, when he suddenly began growing worse and late that evening it was seen that death was imminent at most any time.

Funeral services over the body was held this afternoon at 2:30 at the home and internment took place at the city cemetery.

Many of the young boys of the city who had grown up with him and a Presbyterian Sunday school class, of which he was a member, attended the funeral in a body, to pay their last respects to their life long friend. August 1914

*
Mother of boy killed two years ago died today

Mrs. Callie P (SLAUGHTER) DAVIDSON, mother of W. T. DAVIDSON, who was accidentally shot by an older brother, Wilton, two years ago last August, died today at 10:30 this morning at her home, 540 South Pacific St, after an illness lasting about two years.

Mrs. DAVIDSON was 38 years, 11 months and 9 days old and had lived in Cape Girardeau fro several years. She leaves a mother, one son and one daughter to mourn her death.

The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00, services to be said at the house by pastor of the Second Methodist church. Internment will be in Fairmount cemetery.

Mrs. DAVIDSON's youngest son was shot while the older son was cleaning a revolver. The older boy was sitting on a bed in his room and the younger boy was standing nearby. The revolver was not believed to be loaded and wen Wilton picked it up and started to clean it, it was discharged, the bullet striking the younger boy in the abdomen. He was rushed to the hospital and an effort was made to save his life, but he expired several days later. September 1916

All three articles from the Southeast Missourian Newspaper
John Davison, Bertie, NC and John Davidson (Hannah Hughson), Halifax Co., VA

I'm hoping someone can provide clarification for me on the lineage of John Davidson who was married to Hannah (Hughson) and died in 1770 in Halifax Co., VA. (sons Abraham, Joseph and John) Most researchers show this John to be the son of John Davison of Bertie Co., NC., but I'm having a little trouble with the time flow.

I have an abstract of a will for John Davison in Bertie Co., NC who died in 1756 - probably Sept., or October.

North Carolina Will Abstracts, 1660-1790
Name: John Davison
LOCATION: Bertie County
Will Date: 06 Aug 1752
Probate Date: - Oct 1756
Will: Son and Executor: John ("plantation whereon I now live"). Grandson: John Davison (land on Chinkopin Creek). Granddaughter: Mary Davison. Wife and Executrix: Mary Witnesses: John Freeman, Abram Harrill, Jacob Lasiter, Thomas Harrill. Clerk of the Court: Benjn. Wynns.

I'm presuming he is the John referred to as the father of John who died in Halifax in 1770, and also assume that the abstract names his son, John, as the executor.

My problem is that according to the pension record of Abraham, John and Hannah Davidson are in Guilford Co., NC at that time. Abraham says he was born in Guilford in 1755.

Is it possible (or credible) that the John in Bertie who is the executor of his father's will, could also be the John in Guilford?

Does anyone have different informaton on the John of Bertie Co., that could help explain this supposed discrepancy. I would appreciate help on this if anyone has an answer.

Ruth
DAVIDSONs in Edinburgh

I began my Davidson search about one year ago with a paper copy of my grandfather’s birth registration in Edinburgh, Scotland on April 5, 1874 which my uncle had obtained there in 1957. I discovered the web site scotlandspeople.gov.uk with their digitized records and easy computer searches which has allowed me at moderate cost to follow my line back several generations in Scotland.

It would cost quite a bit to try to trace all of siblings in each generation using that site so I have not done that yet. I have no idea if any of them other than my ggrandfather and his family emigrated from Scotland. I thought I would post this list on the Davidson site on the chance that one of you might share this line several generations back.

I think the Davidson DNA project is a great idea and I intend to participate in the future.

My Davidson’s are: (all children born in Edinburgh unless otherwise shown)

John Davidson m Ann Stewart 6/25/1790 Edinburgh - children - Robert 4/23/1791 - Jonathan 1/4/1793

Robert Davidson m Janet Ferguson 11/11/1812 Edinburgh - children - Mitchel 5/14/1814 - John 12/29/1815 - William 10/19/1817 - Ann 5/2/1819 - Jonathan 1/3/1821 - Robert 10/22/1822 - Janet 9/19/1824 - Elizabeth 2/3/1828 - George Grant 9/6/1829

John Davidson m Marion Denholm 2/1/1844 Edinburgh - children - Robert 7/20/1844 - John 1/4/1851 - Elizabeth Walker 2/5/1853 - William Romanes 1857 - James 9/17/1858

John Davidson m Agnes Gray Brocket 2/21/1873 Edinburgh - children - Leslie 4/5/1874 - Aggie Mary 11/1886 Buffalo, WY

Leslie Davidson m Fanchon Patten 4/1903 Basin City, WY - children - John Irving 12/16/1904 Jordan, WY - Paul Randolph 8/14/1908 Hudson, WY

Please contact me if you have any info about this line.
I'm looking for a Robert Davidson that married a Mary MOSS (b. 1804) probably around 1830 perhaps in Washington Co., or Fayette Co., PA...

And I'm also trying to connect a John DAVIDSON Sr. to be the father of John Jr. b. 1826 in PA and m. 1850 in Bullitt Co., KY.

So could you double check your data to see if there could be a connection...and somewhere in there should be a Moses Davison/Davidson b. 1804.
John F. Davidson petitioned the governor of Ohio for pardon

Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 7 July 1904, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

PRAYING FOR PARDON

Friends of a Man Now Serving a Sentence Believe Him Guiltless

Aline: Residents of Woods County have petitioned the governor of Ohio to pardon John F. Davidson; a civil war veteran, who was convicted in Oklahoma June 1 on a charge of arson and sentenced to one year in the penitentiary. It was alleged that Davidson, many years ago, helped to burn a number of building for insurance money. He lived in Barber County, Kansas and Woods County, Oklahoma, twenty years, coming to the territory ten years ago. His wife and six children live on his farm near here.

One man served about twenty years in the Ohio penitentiary for the crime and when released attempted to extort money from Davidson who denied that he had helped to burn the buildings. Davidson's neighbors believe him guiltless.

DAVIDSON Family Line

I hope the following information may be of help to the Davidson family “searchers”

According to our family tree (Volume 2 by Dorothy Davidson Symmonds, entitled “A History and Genealogy of the Families of Howland, Brown, Follett, Van Dyke, Lamb, Spaulding, and Davidson with Related Lines of Treat, Botsford, Parker, Burwell, Clark, Andrews, Symmonds, Burnaman, Ashbaugh, and Smith From Holland, England, Scotland, and France to Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Iowa, Indiana, Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas From “The Mayflower” pilgrims in 1620 to the 1980s”), which came to me from my father Seemer Halley Davidson, there was a William Davidson who purchased land in Maryland in 1649. This document is in the Hall of records, Annapolis, Maryland, Lib. 6 Fol. 118, Transfers – 1649. I don’t know if this is our ancestor or not.

There is also a Volume 1, published in 1985, (now out of print), entitled “A history and Genealogy of the Pritchett, Rimmer, Jacobs, Hamilton, Eldridge, Etheridge, Smith, Brown, and Davidson Families from North Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri, and Kansas in the early 1800s to 1900s.”

I have a list of the libraries that received Volume 2.

The start of our line was James Davidson who was born around 1710 (DOD 28 March 1764). He married Elizabeth Treat (granddaughter of Territorial Governor Robert Treat) 2 Sept 1736 in Milford Connecticut. Five sons (James Jr., John, Andrew, Joseph, and Isaac) are listed in her will.

Their son, James (DOB 24 Aug 1737…DOD 6 April 1826) was in the Rev. War. The record is confusing as to whether he was a Sgt., Lt. or Cap. He married Ann (Anna) Hine Mar 1760. The direct line continues as follows:

Richard Treat Davidson known as Treat, (DOB unknown…DOD 10 July 1858) married Mary “Polly” Stowe 28 Aug 1791 in Milford, New Haven, Ct. (9 children)

Jonah Treat Davidson also known as Treat, (DOB unknown…DOD 3 Jan 1875, Roxbury, Ct.) married Mehitable Botsford 30 Dec 1812 in Milford or Roxbury, Ct. (5 children)

Rev. David Botsford Davidson, (DOB 19 May 1815 in Roxbury, Ct…DOD 29 Aug. 1886 in Aurora, Nebraska) married Susan Harriet Parker. (1 child)

David Treat Davidson (DOB 25 June 1847 in Delhi, Michigan…DOD 2 Sept 1911 in Almeda, Harris Co., TX) married Mary Louisa Lamb 23 Aug 1871 in Grinnell, Iowa. (11 children)

Willis Herbert Davidson (DOB 29 Oct, 1884 Aurora or Grand Isle, Nebraska…DOD ? in Stillwater, OK) married Rosia Marshall 22 Jan 1908.

Seemer Halley Davidson (DOB 19 May 1910…DOD 14 Dec. 1973) married LaVerne Williams Close date of marriage unknown.

My father was born in Almeda TX but the family did live in Cherokee County, Kansas sometime in the early 1900’s.

From the Semi-Centennial Historical and Biographical Record of the Class of 1841 at Yale University, published 1891, pp 74-75 regarding David Botsford Davidson (in part):

“The year after his graduation he taught school in Milford Conn. He then studied three years (1842-5) in the New Haven Theological Seminary; was licensed to preach by the Litchfield South Association, August 6, 1844; in June,1846, received from the American Home Missionary Society a commission to the West, and in September of that year began to preach in the Presbyterian church in Paw Paw, Mich., where he remained for several years; February 9, 1847, was ordained to the Gospel ministry; preached a while, it is said, in Indiana, about 1850; supplied the Congregational Church in Streetsboro, Ohio, 1852-4. In the fall of 1854 he moved to Iowa, and for five years supplied Congregational churches in or near Monona, some of which he organized, his residence being a few miles from Monona. In 1864-7 he was preaching to the Congregational church at Danville, Iowa. After 1868 he lived on a farm of two hundred and forty acres, seven miles north of Grinnell, Iowa”...”D. B. D. removed from Grinnell to the residence of his youngest son, in Aurora, Neb., in 1884, and died there August 29, 1886, at the age of 71 years.”

His first wife Susan died in the summer of 1850. In the fall of 1850, he married Susan’s sister, Jennette Parker Bronson. (3 children)

There is no information in my copy of the family tree as to whether the other sons of James Davidson and Elizabeth Treat Davidson remained in Connecticut or moved elsewhere.

I have a list of the libraries where Volume 2 was deposited and probably a portion of these libraries also have Volume 1.

My father was the last male of this direct line. There may be some surviving male relatives since the children of two of the male children of David Treat Davidson (Charles Treat (9 children), George Alfred (9 children), Arthur Bertrand (?) may have had sons, who in turn had sons. However, I don’t have any contact with any of my distant relatives. I would really like to know what group our line belongs to. If any of the Davidson families are familiar with this line, please let me know.

Hoping to hear from some of you soon, Sharon Goyette

Robert Davison/Davidson???

I need to learn more about :

Mary Moss (b. c1804) & husband Robert Davison/Davidson

Her parents were John MOSS (1779-1868) and Elizabeth ROSE (1781-1819) and Mary was supposedly married to Robert Davison/Davidson. He might have been a brother to Moses Davison/Davidson 1804-1880.

This MOSS family was mostly in Fayette Co., PA until about 1840 and then into Washington Co., PA.

Anyone have a book of marriages for the time frame c1822 in those areas? Or maybe someone has a Will index with a Robert Davison/Davidson listed? I sure could use a break with learning about decendants of this couple:

Robert & Mary (Moss) Davison/Davidson

Thanks...Sandymento

William J. DAVIDSON, b. 1830 TN -- son of Jonah DAVIDSON ??

Does anyone have PROOF that the William J. Davidson (born 1830 in Maury Co., TN) who married Roda Keeling in 1851 in TN was the son of a Jonah Davidson? A Jonah Davidson married a Mary Finch (daughter of John Finch and Sarah Ivey) in TN in the 1820s.

There was a William Davidson (also born 1830) living in the home of Sarah "Sally" Davi(d)son (born 1801) in Hickman Co., TN on the 1850 census. Was he the above William J. Davidson (and was Jonah dead by 1850)? When William and Roda (Keeling) Davidson were living in MO in the mid-late 1800s, they lived close to other Davidsons who are KNOWN to have been out of John Davison (born 1690s-died 1754 in Prince Edward Co., VA) and his wife Ann Sons/Soanes, and the above-mentioned Sarah "Sally" Davidson has long been suspected of being associated with that same family from VA.

Note: This family out of Prince Edward Co., VA is "represented" by "Family 5" on the Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA website. There are several living male "matching donors" in that family.

There was another Davidson family in Hickman, as well as Rutherford, Co., TN. This family had a Josiah Davidson, Senior and Junior in it. This family is represented by "Family 10" on the DNA website. There appears to have been some association between this family (which included a David and a Hugh Davidson) and the family of Jonah Davidson (e.g., deed records), but that association could have been simply because members of both families lived close to one another. Some have even suggested that Josiah Davidson, Junior and Jonah Davidson were actually the same person (and I certainly cannot disprove that at this point). There was a Josiah Davidson and his wife Mary in KY by the mid-1850s, but I don't know if that was the above-mentioned Josiah Davidson, Junior, Jonah Davidson, or yet a third man.

Anyway, if anyone knows for sure that the father of William J. Davidson of TN who moved to MO was a Jonah Davidson, please let me know. Thanks!

1897 death of J. P. Davidson in Palo Pinto Co., TX

Dallas Morning News
Dallas, Texas
March 16, 1897
An Old Pioneer Dead
Strawn, Palo Pinto Co., Texas, March 14: J. P. DAVIDSON, a pioneer settler of this county, died yesterday. This sad event was made doubly so by the death of his wife some twenty hours earlier. Uncle Peter, as he was known to this people, was 73 years old, had lived in Palo Pinto and Eastland Counties for the past 34 years, and was extensively known throughout the state, and especially in the counties of Palo Pinto, Eastland, and Stephens. He served as district surveyor for a long term and located many of the county lines in the western country. Although he only had fourteen days schooling in his life, he was naturally an expert at figures as he did not work by established mathematical rules. He was a member of the Methodist church and was a faithful Mason, which fraternity had charge of the funeral.

Was living in Franklin Co., when he applied for a pension in 1818 and still living there in 1820, d 1822."

Rachel was a half-sister to my ancestor, Lewis Davidson, b. ca. 1749, m.
