I am searching for information on the children of Bernard Hiden Shifflett and Isabel Fannie Davis Shifflett. Children are Wilmer Charles, Nellie, Elmer J., Earman, George W., Ruth and possibly another male and female. Fannie died in May 1921. Bernard is listed living with his brother James Warren Shifflett in the 1930 Rockingham Co., VA census. James wife Ella J. and Fannie were sisters also. I would like to know who raised these children when there mother died. If anyone out there is researching this family or knows a descendant of this family who can share info on this line, please e-mail me.

Ruth Elizabeth Shifflett is my mother-in-law, born in April of 1921. Her mother, Fannie, died of a shotgun wound when her toddler son, George, found his older brother's (Elmer)loaded gun and "played" with it. Fannie was holding Ruth at the time, and Ruth lost an arm in the shotgun blast.

She has said that her aunts took care of she and George until they went to boarding school at Blue Ridge School. The both completed their schooling there.

Sorry I don't know your name but I am very happy that you answered my query. I descend from George Minor Shifflett who was Bernard Hiden's elder brother. George's son Joseph was my grandfather. The only information that I have on Ruth is that she was born April 6, 1921 in Beldor, Virginia. I have that she married Paul Nasland and had 1 son Paul Jr. born March 1 1943. I have that she married the second time to Lewis James Padula who was born Oct 7 1948 and married Jacquelyn Babel. I have that Ruth was living in April 1999 at 220 Spruce Street, Deming, New Mexico.
Now.... if it is possible, I would love to have my information on Bernard Hiden's line verified if possible.

I wish that I had been interested in genealogy back when my grandparents were living. My grandmother Rosa Belle Hansbrough Shifflett would talk about the Hansbrough and Shifflett family she had in Virginia but I was young and did not write the information down. I did not know any of the people so it did not stay with me. My grandparents moved to Bemis, West Virginia in 1925.
I am also interested in the Davis line because George Minor Shifflett's first wife was Virginia Ann "Jennie" Wood whose mother was Mary Ann Davis the daughter of Leonard and Fannie Wyant Davis.
