I have a G-Grandfather Thomas DAVIS born about 1828-1835 in a place unknown, but probably England. Thomas came to Adelaide, South Australia on a date unknown, he may have been a widow when he arrived. He married in 1878 to Ellen Jane JAMES. His marriage certificate documents just said he was ‘English’ and a ‘widower’ we do not know anything of his first marriage and whether he had children from that marriage.
His occupation was listed as a carpenter and later as a builder.
His father was Charles DAVIS as listed on his second marriage certificate.
In 1879 he had a son Henry Malcolm DAVIS in Adelaide, in 1881 his wife Ellen died in childbirth in hospital. We do not know what happened to Thomas after that.
At the age of 2 ½ the son Henry was put in a home and stayed there until 12 years of age, when he went to work in the mines.
We suspect he married for the third time in 1884 in Adelaide to Susan Smith.
