Looking for information on Job Davis born 10 April 1773 in Mecklenburg County, Virigina and died in 1852 in Stanly County, NC, formerly the Western part of Montgomery County, North Carolina. Had a plantation just across the Rocky River from Anson County. First shows up in the 1810 census of Montgomery county. Married Sarah Winfield Howell, widow of Peter Howell and daughter of Peter Winfield and Charlotte Freeman. She was also born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia in 1773, the same year her father and his brother were deeded land that was part of the Kings Big Grant, around the forks of the PeeDee and Rocky Rivers. Job and Sarah were married in South Carolina. They had 4 sons, Edward Winfield Davis, Merritt Freeman Davis, James Davis and Henry Davis. Sarah had a son Peter and daughter Charlotte by her first husband. Both her mother and her first husband died here in Stanly/Montgomery County. Job may be related to Isham (brother) Davis of Anson County or descended from a Davis family who married into the Merritt/Marriott family. There are Crumps also buried in the old Davis cemetary on my cousin's property near the old homesite and the road that led down to the ford known as Davis Ford, and earlier known as Winfield's crossing, not far from old Allenton and Colson's mill. Other families part of this grant were Lilly, Allen, Crump, Randall,Colston, Vonhouser/Vonsomething.
