Do you know of any living Davison males from your family? If so, one of them should take the 37 marker Y chromosome DNA test via www.davidsongenes.org. That could very well "connect you" to some earlier members if your overall Davison family. The Daniel Davidson who married Mary Enochs and who was on the 1880 Sullivan Co., IN census had a large family there, and we already have a DNA donor who is out of that couple (though I am not aware of a Jacob Davison in that line). That DNA donor did not match any other donor in the Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA testing project, and per "family lore," we believe that is because the donor's "male biological line" was/is actually a "DeJarnette line" versus a "Davidson/Davison line."

I note that there was a Jacob L. Davisson (spelled that way)who was shown as age 9 (versus the expected age of 6) on the 1870 Randolph Co., IN census. He was in the home of Sylvanus Davisson (age 28) and William E. Davisson (age 5). Any chance that he was your guy (census ages were/are frequently "off" by a few years)?

There was a large family out of New England in the 1600s....many of whom were later in Harrison and Monongalia Co., VA (today those counties are in West VA)....where the surname was/is frequently shown as "Davisson" (and also "Davison"). They are represented by several donors in DNA "Family 2" at www.davidsongenes.org. There are, however, also several other families that typically spelled the surname "Davison" (versus "Davidson") that are represented by two or more "matching DNA donors" in the above Davidson/Davison/Davisson DNA testing project.

No guarantee, of course, but the odds are pretty good that a male Davison DNA donor from your family would "match" one of those existing "defined/numbered families," or perhaps match one of the other existing DNA donors who have no matches to any other donors at this time. The existing donors who have one or more "matches" are in the "Family Results" section of the above-referenced website, while the existing donors who have no "good matches" at this time to anyone else named Davidson/Davison/Davisson are in the "Group Results" section.
