(Ithink I sent this direct to you?) Your family story of relationship to McHale and Michael Davitt would indicate that
Mayo could be the origin. I have never heard of McHale being related to my line
- in fact McHale was quite anti the Land League and crossed swords indirectly
with Davitt on a few occasions. Other questions - Liverpool was the favourite departure point
for the US but they could have left from any one of fifty ports. Kates details - there are records for parts of Mayo
going back to the early 1800s so you might find something by contacting the
Mayo Family History centres (North/South).
