To those to whom I've already e-mailed re other possible Davitts (who posted here): just realized that anyone can post here, which I didn't know. Unlike Genealogy.com, which requires direct membership.
1. I have been doing Davitt research, and just wanted to alert other researchers that there are very very many misspellings of Davitt, even for a person you know spells/spelled it this way. Some variations I've come across (good to know when searching other databases, censuses, etc.):
Davit, Devit, Devitt, David (this one very popular!), Debut, Debbut, Divit, Devett, Deavet, Dibbit, Dabit, and the first vowel is often left out of these, making it Dvitt, Dvid, etc. Also, like German, D can be rendered as T, so it can also be Tavitt, Tevitt, etc. When you search, try all possible variations.
2. Looking for anyone related to/has info on/wants info on James Davitt, b. 1857, Ireland, d. 1902, Ossining NY. Wife Anna Hayden Davitt, b. 1863, d. 1911, Ossining NY. Son James A., b. 1879 Albany NY, d. 1913, Albany. Son Edward J., b. 1879, Albany NY, d. 1904, Albany. I have detailed cemetery records but unable to connect them to descendants.
3. Looking for anyone related to/has info on/wants info on Regina M. Simmons Davitt, b. either 1911 or 1919, Albany, NY, d. 1942, Albany NY. Buried in plot with Simmons family of Albany NY. I have detailed cemetery records on family. Who did she marry?
Thanks.
