I was born a Davy. my branch of the family moved to Gloucestershire around the end of WW2.
My father Frederick Charles Davy (an engineer and grenadere guardsman) son of Grace Davy from Chelmsford Essex
Nanna Grace told us all that we were related to Sir Humphrey, we had an old Miners Lamp which was always in pride of place.
Nanna ran a Coaching Inn that was bombed in the war called the Rosebury ( not sure about the spelling) that became a smaller establishment. She became a Dame of british Legion ( or similar org.) I was told that the business was part of the link to our Cornish family.
I have a surviving brother who has 1 son and a daughter.
I was recently honoured to be a torchbearer last week as part of the Olympic Relay ( Day 6 runner 26) and was chuffed to have my torch lit from a Davy Lamp!!
If you want any more info about the relatives I can remember - just ask.
I was born about 17 years after my brothers so I never met many of the Essex crowd.
