Can you prove Catharine Divine is the wife of Edward Daw? I have no maiden name for the Catharine I am seeking.

I am looking for an Edward C Daw whose wife, Catherine C. was born in MA around 1863. They came to San Francisco. One child was Elizabeth J or Elizabeth Amelda, also known as Lizzie, my great grandmother. She was born around 1871 according to the 1880 census. Catharine (I think that is the right spelling) and Edward had at least 5 children including a son, John A Daw, listed in the 1880 census. Catherine died in 1881, as best as I can tell, but have yet to prove. The date is supposed to be 2 November 1881, but I have not proven.

I can trace Edward C. Daw to his death in 1905 in Marin County. I can not prove that Catharine Divine was his wife, but am sure trying. Lizzie had lots of troubles. I know one person alive who knew her, but this person is a bit addled.

Hi. My name is Melissa Louise Daw and I was wondering if you ever found any info on Sam Daw? I've been trying to research my grandfather(Lee Daw). He is from Satsuma, AL and was born on July 8, 1917 (not sure where) and passed away May 2,1999. (Sam Daw had a son named Lee born in 1917). His (Lee Daw) wife's name is Hazel (born about 1920). They have 6 children together named, Larry, Wayne, Connie, Cathy, Wanda, and Ronnie. I'll try to order the death certificate to see what else I can find out. Thanks

Ok. I was estranged from this family through a divorce of my biological father, Raymond Vanoven and my mother Margaret Niderost. Also, when my mother remarried my brother as well as myself's last name was changed so we wouldnt know who our father was. I found out by getting into genealogy at 30-my brother was told when he was 16. I am now 60, still doing genealogy and as you can see from the emails I was contacted by an individual from The Netherlands. DNA was done but no match was made. We were both very disappointed!!

However, I am hoping a closer relative will find our Vanoven line but from what I have been told it is possible our last name may not be Vanoven, especially with the DNA not matching!

919-557-1984; 108 Phelps Farm Road, Fuquay Varina, NC 27526

I also would love to share pictures, stories, whatever. Because I came from a "black sheep" of the family who moved to CA I dont have any stories but do have some pictures that were given to me from Dollie, which was great!

I am black, originally from Guyana(formerly British Guiana),South America. My grandparents were descendants of slaves. The ONLY information that I have is that Daw were slave owners in Suriname. However,a brother and sister did not like the business of being slave owners and moved to Guyana(to the county of Berbice,to be exact). The sister moved to Georgetown, capital of Guyana) and contact was lost with her
Recall, that slavery was abolished in Guyana in the 1800s.I am
descended from the brother and through inter-marriages a black family settled in Mahaica,East Coast Demerara,Guyana with the surname DAW.

Dear Pam,

I had heard of a distant relative of my Dad's (Joan Bagnall) that a Pam Daw was writing a book of Daw history? Would that be you? My name was Deborah Daw and Worthy Daw born 1902 was my grandfather. He came out to Australia with his wife and died in 1973. His father was Arthur Henry and his grandfather was also called Worthy. Apparently Arthur was promised by his father that if he named his son after him (Worthy) he would inherit the family fortune (never happened!!!) according to my nana (Worthy's wife). Anyway, i would love to hear from you. Debbie

Anyone interested in what DNA testing can do to help break through their brick walls, or indicate what families are related, is welcome to join the newly set up DAWE and variant surname DNA project.

Read about testing etc from the links at the supporting pages:
http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/d/dawe/

I have no commercial interest in the companies involved, just an interest in the DAWE/DAW surnames, and have had great success with a couple of other DNA projects (FAIRBAIRN and RUNCIMAN), so have turned my attention to a surname on my mother's side of the family to see what turns up.

Lorna
Project admin
http://familytree.lornahen.com/

Hi, Sian,

It appears we have the same grandfather! James Daw(s) - the one who is my grandfather was married to Elizabeth Williams. He is the son of Jonas Daw (however, I show his birth about 1764) who was married to Sarah Parker. Jonas was also the son of Jonas (I think). That's about all the information I have.

If it's the right James and Elizabeth, I would appreciate any information you could give me. James had a son, Isaac, who was my great-grandfather.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Renee

Hello, I have just found this old post. I have traced my family back to James Daws b. abt 1790 who married Elizabeth Williams (b. abt 1794). He is my 5x great grandfather coming through Jonas Dawes b. abt 1829 (father of Mary Dawes b. 1853)
I am happy to share any information I have found with you. They appear to have had at least 16 children!

Sian

Mary Daw who married Edward Coleman in the 1760's @ Sandhurst Kent was my GGGGGG Grandmother. I have noticed that several trees listed on this web site show her as Mary Daw d of Thomas and Mercy Daw b. 1747 @ Cranbrook, kent. This I beleive is incorrect as Mary d of T & M died in 1762 from the small pox @ Cranbrook } parish records.

If any one knows of any other Mary Daw who was born in the 1740's near Sandhurst, I would love to know.

Dave Russell
Cranbrook
