My mom, Betty L. Dawdy Benett passed away on June 23, 2009.
She left me quite a bit of information that she had been writing down through the years about the Dawdys. She was born in White Hall, Illinois. She knew everyone in that town and came out with a bunch of names and I have pictures, too. It will take me some time tho to gather up this info and the pictures. My mom often told me that her heritage background was from the "Blackfoot" Indian tribes.
There is quite a bit of Indian in all of her children, even me. I live in St. Charles, MO. Her parents were Fefa and William Francis Dawdy. So much to go thru. But, I will.

Andrew J (40)b. Ohio is listed on the U.S. Federal Census 1880 with wife Catherine E.(42)b. Penn... in Elkhart,Goshen Indiana with 2 sons Willie C.(10)and Guy L.(6), and 2 stepsons Elmer J. Newell (23)and Charles R. Newell.(20)They were married 31 Mar 1861 in Elkhart. Who is the GGF you are trying to connect to..might be helpful??

Is anyone researching this family ? We need help to connect our people. We have an Amasa Wheaton who md. before 1851 in Pelham Johanna Dawdy (b.1811.) In the same family plot in Norfolk is Mary A. Hall b. 1828, 1st wife of James Colborne Hall s/o Hamilton Hall & Hannah Dawdy. James & Mary A. were md. in Pelham before 1848. Is there early niagara marriages? I'm a descandant of the Canadian branch of Dawdys who left N.J. c 1780 for the Niagara region of what is now the province of Ontario. None of us have gotten past Howell or his alleged brother, James but we're having a good time sharing notes and working together to that end on the Dawdy site.

Both are buried in the Findlay Cemetery. My mother was a Dawdy, and I have read the stones of the cemetery two times and had books printed through the local Gen. & Hist. Soc.

Laveda Clay Dawdy was married to Rufus Dawdy in 1931. He was the son of Oliver "Dod" Dawdy.

My great grandfather was William's brother. He was
Guy Lansing Dawdy b) 21 Jun 1872 d) 1957 in Goshen married Josephine Deutsch. Both are buried in Oak Ridge Cemetary. Guy and Josephine had 3 daughters, Marie, Lucille (my grandmother) and Ruth. My grandmother lived across the street from Guy and Josephine on Purl Street in Goshen.

Guy had one brother - William C. Dawdy b) 1870 d) 1933 - If you have further information on William and his decendents I would be interested.

Guy and Williams Parents were:
Andrew J. Dawdy b) 21 May 1896 d) 21 May 1896. He married Catherine E. Swank (Newell first marriage) b) 27 Jun 1837 d) 1898. Both are buried in Oak Grove Cemetary. Andrew was a photographer in town. His studio was Dawdy and Sons, although I don't think either son took up the profession. It was on West Main Street in Goshen. I have not had luck finding Andrews parents, although I'm planning a trip to Indiana to see if on his death certificate, they are noted.

Beyond that I have no further information, so please forward anything you have on William, who he married, who his children were, birth, death, marriage information.

Susan, So glad to find you on line. I am your aunt Barb. I know same name as your mom. I don't know if you want to here from me but I can give you some of the information you requested. I can also give you addresses of phone numbers of some of your cousins in Illinois, like Paula or Jackie. Ask your mom about them. I know they would love to here from you. Your Great grandmother, Hazel Burbridge died in 1976. She and all your other Dawdy relatives are buried in Pinetree Cemetary, Greene county, Illinois. I have a gedcom. file of the Dawdy's that goes back to your great-great-great grandfather if you want it.

Dorothy Dawdy

Dorothy (Dexter) Dawdy, 57, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, died Aug. 11, 2005.

She was born April 8, 1948 in St. Anthony, Idaho, to Charles Randall and Dorothy Charlotte (Loveland) Dexter. She lived in the local area from 1979 to 1991.

Mrs. Dawdy attended St. Anthony and Pocatello schools and was a licensed practical nurse at Bannock Hospital, Monticello Medical Center, Astoria Medical Center and the Latter-day Satins Hospital in Idaho Falls.

She married John Charles Dawdy on Aug. 22, 1996, in Woodville, Idaho. He survives her.

Also surviving aRe her mother; a daughter, Michelle Stallings; a son, Brett Dawdy; two brothers, Dennis Dexter and Larry Dexter; and four grand children.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Garfield 1st Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Monday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Aspen Home Health and Hospice, 3470 Washington Parkway, Idaho Falls, ID, 83404.

Arrangements are by Eckersell Memorial Chapel, Ridby, Idaho.

Has anyone come across a man named Alfred Dawdy, who appears in the 1830 census in Morgan County, AL? He was married and had 9 children. It's possible that his last name was sometimes spelled "Dowdy" and his first name "Alford."
