Hi, Dave. Was in Redruth briefly last Aug. Visited all over staying in Falmouth a week including down to Lands End. Was overnight in Bodmin to travel to Tintagel by bus but couldn't check out any records. Before I left Falmouth, spent two days in Truro at the records office. Then on to St. Austell and Liskeard. Visited Linkinhorne where my ancestors settled, but didn't get to Northill. Ancestors include Walter & Jane Reynor Dawe, their son James & wife Joanna Bawden/Bowden Dawe, their son Richard & his wife Jane Leming Dawe, etc. Don't think you had their children, but don't recall. My great-grandfather was Richard's child, Alfred John. He was the last child born in Cornwall before the family moved to Yorkshire where five more were born. Some family later moved to Lancashire.

Hi, Dave. Did you used to be on the Cornwall list and now live in the Midlands? If so, I may have part of your data base. I've used it to find some of my family.

Most of their lives they lived in Northill, Linkinhorne, Henwood, and other near-by villages. Their years in Tintagel, and Lanteglos-by-Camelford were only a few before moving on to north Yorkshire.

My Richard B. Dawe family lived in or near Tintagel for one year - his daughter Jessie was born in 1870. His son, Alfred [my great, grandfather] was born in Valley Truckle in 1872. Both children were baptised in the Helstone Methodist Chapel in Lanteglos-by-Camelford in 1874. Then the family moved to north Yorkshire. I believe they lived in Valley Truckle until 1874. Before Tintagel, they lived in the Linkinhorne area.

Giles,
I know it's a while since your post, but the thread has been recently re-activated, so I thought I'd reply.

Given that you state you are the last of your Bristol line, perhaps you might consider joining the DAWE dna project to document your lineage and record some of your dna for posterity and help any others who may later come along see if there are connections to your Bristol lineage.

Details can be found at
http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/dawe/
but basically, any direct male line DAWE can participate.

I had a quick check of my DAWE files, but only two of my Devon and Cornwall DAWEs seem to have migrated into Bristol.

(One day I'll find a willing taker to represent my Devon DAWE families and have as much success with them as in other projects!!)

Regards
Lorna
Project Administrator DAWE/DAW Surname dna project

Dawes Family tree.Like I said before my true family name is "Dawe". It was changed due to a clerical error. So it is only my immediate family that has the "s" on our name Dawes. It know it sounds a little odd but there is not much going to be done about after this long. It just makes searchs a little more difficult.Check out the tree and maybe there might be a connection maybe not. I am realize how many different families there are.

Hello
My grandfather James Dawe was born in Kelligrews Newfoundland. He married Vera Dywer. All I know is he worked in the sidney mines for awhile before leaving Newfoundland for the States. They ended up in Guelph Ontario. My grandfather went to work for what was then a college and now is a university. That is where the "S" was put onto our family name I know I still have family in Newfoundland in the Kelligrews area. I was last there in 1969 so who knows where they are too now.Hope this may help you

I'm related to the P-d-G Daw(e) and have been told they were one of the first families allowed to winter over and ultimately start a settlement in, or around 1595. Also have been told when Johy Guy tried to settle P-d-G he was asked to leave, so Guy settled Cupids instead. My g-mother was a Dawe. My g-parents went to Nova Scotia.

I found her on a 1921 Census age 70 in Brigus, this would make her year of birth approx 1850. Does anyone know anything else about her?
Re: DAWE family Redruth, Cornwall

I guess the question is which John Dawe, there was more then one born in
Redruth 1855 to 1858. One was the brother of my great-grandfather Peter
Dawe, and his father was also a John Dawe. There was an older John Dawe
that was a stone mason during that period, he could have been a cousin,
but I'm not sure. And my great-grandfather Peter's grandfather was also
John Dawe of Redruth. Lack of listed middle names makes it hard to place
people properly. I have a family web site with some of this information
on it, www.dawe.us, I still have a long way to go filling in the blanks.
I have a bunch of material from my last visit in 2007 that still needs
to be entered, hopefully I get to it before the end of this year.

You can reach me direct at shortrunusa@citlink.net

Al Dawe

Henry Dawe was born about 1857 from the date on his headstone (Source: www.stonepiccs.com). Mary Ann born about 1862. From what I have found there were two other children, Isaac and Mirion. Nothing on Miriam though Isaac married an Ellen and they had five children, Carrie, Evelyn, Henry, Mary, and Arthur. Most were buried in the Anglican Cemetery in Coley's point.

Yours truly, Harry.

Harry Mercer

Patricia, was going to reply to your earlier email, but you answered it. My Dawe clan is from Cornwall. Mostly Linkinhorne area; my GGF was from Lanteglos-by Camelford. I do have an Ellen; no middle initial. She did marry in Yorkshire, but died there in her 30's, so don't know if she had children. I have her family connections. But if it isn't the right one, no sense passing them on.

Hi, Pat. Even though it had been awhile since you had been on the board, I thought it was worth a shot. From what you say, the women are not the same. My Ellen had no middle name that I know of; she was born to James and Johanna Dawe abt. 1853 in Northill, Cornwall, England. Think she died in Yorkshire about 10 years after the family migrated there in the mid-1870's. Thanks anyway, jld

James was my 3xG grandfather. I've been able to research his early life, marriage [Johanna Bowden/Bawden], children, and their move to North Yorkshire as well as some of their life there. But then I've been stuck regarding details of the final years of James' life after Johanna's death in 1878 in N. Skelton. It's the final details of his life and death that elude me. Did he remarry, move to Lancashire [some of his family had]?

James & Johanna's eldest son, Richard Bawden married Jane Leming [father Walter from Devon]. Righard is my 2XGGF. The info on Richard after the 1901 census is also elusive. Would love to hear from anyone whose ancestors include any of these persons.

Thanks for your reply. My Ellen May DAWE-STANTON, my Grandmother on my Dads side lived much longer than 30 years. Her father was George Alfred DAWE, married to Thomasine Elizabeth DREW in 1884, East Stonehouse, Devon, England. They had 7 children that I have found so far. John A. , George A. , Ellen May, Ada E. , Mabel M. , Margretta and Emily, all born between 1885 and 1899, mostly in the county of Devon , except for Ada, and she was born in Scotland. Haven't been able to figure that one out yet? We still might be connected somewhere, you never know. A lot more searching to do yet. Thanks again!!
Regards,
Patricia patforshort@aol.com
