hello
my parents bought and restored and still live in the dawes 'country home' about 40 years ago. located at 336-39th avenue in lachine.
it was purchased from the estate of a woman (sexton) who was apparently some descripof hired help for dawes... not sure about the details, just that the property was otherwise (half was) going to be bulldozed in favor of duplexes.....
anyway... original property went from the lakeshore to north of the highway.... i'm interested in knowing more too... museum @ the brewery mentions nothing of the house
contact me,... not my parents.

He married Elizabeth Askew. they lived in Whitehaven for around 30 years but where they originated from I am not sure.
Part of the family liked near Ullswater in the Lake District, but not sure whether they started off there.
Henry and George's father was called William who married Mary Jane Sewll and his father was also called William who married Mary Derby.
This is as far as I have progressed at present!
Your grandfather is in my family tree. My great grandfather was Henry (Harry) your grandfathers brother. The family lived in Whitehaven for a number of years, cannot find how they come to be in Whitehaven only that a branch of the Dawes family were living in the Lake District in Glenridding! Their father was William Dawes who married Mary Jane (nee Sewell) also born in Whitehaven. Another William born 1827,appears to be Robert and Henry's grandfather and his wife was Mary Derby who was also born in Whitehaven around 1825. Most of the family worked in the local steelworks and mines.

When she married Charles Mitchel Storey in rural Ontario Canada in 1888, her birthplace was given as Cheltenham England. Her birth date was 11 July 1870. Her parents were Joseph Kalif Dawes and Mary Ann (perhaps Davies). She died 5 October 1924. Any leads?

Hi,
This is a question about your Dawes. Do you have a Thomas A Dawes who married a Sarah Helen Thompson Hansen? She was married to a Charles C Hansen a relative of mine and they had two children Hazel B born in July of 1897 and Pearl L born in Oct of 1899. They were living with their parents in 1900 in Muskegon, Michigan and then in 1910 they were living in Dougalass Township which is near Lakeview and Six Lakes, Michigan with Sarah's parents. I see in 1905 she married Thomas A Dawes. I don't know what happened to her husband. All it says on the marriage certificate is that she was married once before. Seeing that you have Dawes in Six Lakes, Michigan I thought you might have some info on this family.

Thanks,
Susan

Hi - I appreciate that your message on ancestry.com was a long time ago, but did you get any replies? I have little info on "your" Josiah Dawes, as I am descended from his elder sister Charlotte (1829 - 1872) whose father was Josiah Wise Dawes and whose mother was, I believe, Elizabeth (according to the IGI). I presume Elizabeth died shortly after her youngest child was born (James 1836, I think) as subsequent censuses 1841 and onwards show JWD's wife as Mary. Do you have any information on JWD?
Hello. Josephine Greene Wesseldine was my grandmother's first cousin. She is the daughter of Martin Seymour Greene and Fannie Sloan (sp?). Some are under the impression that she is the daughter of Martin's older brother, Durward, but that is incorrect. Durward, who is really Robert Durward, was my great-grandfather and I can positively prove that Josephine was not his daughter. The problem with Martin, who went by the name Seymour, is that he was mover. It has been hard to track his whereabouts. Josephine was raised by Martin's parents, Samuel and Louisa Greene. Both the 1910 and 1920 census records indicate she lived with them. Word with the family indicates that Fannie became ill and was "committed". We cannot find any record of her death, or divorce. It is also stated that Martin married an Irene Stewart, but have been unable to prove this information. During the late 1980's I was able to take my grandmother (we live in Michigan) to New York so she could visit with Josephine. It was a pleasant visit, and one that my grandmother was grateful to have. Hope this helps.
Elizabeth

He later moved to Syracuse, NY and lived with his son and daughter-in-law, Robert & Lulu Sloan. Uncle Bob was a few years older than my mother and was adopted by his other grandparents. Yes Fannie Belle was committed and the family has no record of her after Grandpa divorced her, when my Mother was 16 years old is when he remarried.

Hi Margaret,
My name is Thomas Orr McLellan Kirk,I am from Greenock, but now live in Florida. I am a direct descendant of Thomas Orr Boat builder from Greenock. My grandfather Was Thomas Cublick Orr Kirk he lived and died in Greenock and had a Building Firm ( now defunct )My father was John McIntyre Kirk-- I was named after Thomas Orr. I have never heard of another Cublick either ! I can tell you that there are three boats still around by Thomas Orr. One is a rowing boat which is in the Clan MacDonald museum on the Isle of Skye. If you go to their Armadale Museum site there is a photograph of it. There is a yacht called Nell somewhere in England, I cannot find any more about it. it was for sale 7 years ago ( but I did not know that at the time )there is also a model boat in The Greenock Museum. I am very new to geneology and there are not many relatives left. I would be pleased to hear from you and perhaps we can do some research together. i am sure somewhere we are related. Best regards Tom Kirk

Seeking information about James Henry (or was it Henry James?) Dawes who was born c1880 in the Edmonton / Tottenham area. Named after his father, he was the son of James Henry Dawes, a farm labourer.
James Henry (junior) married Eliza Pawsey. To my knowledge they had at least three children: Thomas, David and Leonard.
They certainly continued living in the Tottenham area up until the late 1920's.
Would love to hear from anyone connected.
Felicity Pawsey

Anything will be greatly appreciated. My side of the family uses the Dause spelling instead of the Dawes spelling.

Hi I'm Bill Sims, my grandma was Ester Mattie Stein b. 25 Jan. 1902, Howard Co. Missouri d. 23 Nov 1973 Audrain Co. Missouri, she was the d/o George William Stein b. 24 Jul 1870, Chariton Co. Mo. d. 16 Mar 1924, Randolph Co. Mo., he was the s/o George Herman Stein (my GGGrandpa b. 28 Apr. 1827, Mecklinburg, Germany, d. 22 Nov 1876, Chariton Co., Mo. He was married to Matilda (Gregory) Stein b. 6 Feb. 1841 in Ohio, d. 17 Sept. 1889, Chariton Co. Mo. both are buried in the Asbury Cementery, Chariton co. Geo. & Matilda children were Lula Rachel b. abt 1861, Mary A., b. abt 1863, Charlotte b. abt. 1865, Thomas Ludwig, b. abt. 12 Feb 1867, d. 28 Febuary 1948, Ripley co. Mo., George William b. 24 Jul. 1870, d. 16 Mar 1924 ( my GGrandpa)and Lenora C. b. abt 1873. George Herman is found on the 1860 census in Chariton co. living with 2 other men, on 1870 census shows him, married, with 4 children, and on the 1880 census shows Matilda living 5 children, Mary A. is missing. Matilda's mother, Rachel apparently had married a man by the name of Jackson Walburn and moved to Mo. from Ohio. as I have found her on a census(Chariton Co.)living with Walburn and having children with the Gregory and Walburn name. Thomas Ludwig (Uncle Luddy) to my mother and her family, lived in Ripley co. Mo. had a daughter Dorothy, who married, Lewis Dawes. My mother kept in touch with Dorothy, until Dorothy passed away.
One story I have hear is that George Herman came to America with his mother and siblings, date and names unknow.

Phoebe Kidd Dawes, North Carolina

Looking for any information on Phoebe Jane Kidd Dawes. Born 9 May 1878 in North Carolina and died 16 July 1960 in Rogers County Oklahoma. She married Jonathon W. Dawes sometime between 1880 and 1910, have been unable to locate when/where. They probably married around 1898 in Oklahoma since their first child was born in Oklahoma about 1898 per 1910 census. On the 1880 census they were living in neighboring counties separated by state boundaries, she was in Cherokee County North Carolina age 2 and he was in Fannin County Georgia age 20.

Jonathon’s father died in Oklahoma about 1888 so I am wondering when the two families came together. Married Phoebe and her brother Felix are living next door to each other on the 1910 census in Craig County Oklahoma.

Appreciate any input,
Pat Bowen
I have the various history books, such as the Holland and Ferris. I am looking for people who are descendants, especially from Grace Adelia, or her father George Sylvanus Dawes, b 1825 in Ohio, lived in Iowa. I have lots of information on Grace and George, and can share what I have.

I am also searching for information on the Ames line, starting with Elizabeth Ames, born on Mar 11, 1800. She is the daughter of Judge Sylvanus Ames and Abigail Nabby Johnson.

I hope to hear from you,

Todd Lawson

Can anyone help me - I have found that an Ann (Annie) DAWES is buried in a plot at Rookwood Cemetery, Sydney with my Gr Gr GR Grandmother - Ellen Brennan. Ann DAWES death was 15 July, 1893.

Assumption is that she is Ellen's sister, but we don't have Ellen's maiden name.

Ellen was married to William Brennan, but don't know where they came from as yet until we get a copy of their son's birth certificate, which hopefully will give us some more information. At present we are leaning towards them being from Kilkenny, Ireland, but could be wrong.

Any leads anybody??

My father, Thomas Cublick Orr, died some years ago in Mesa Arizona where he had lived for the best part of 50 years having emigrated c. 1954. He divorced my mother c. 1953. I believe that his family were boat builders (all called Thomas Orr, or Thomas Cublick Orr, or Thomas Blair Orr!) from Greenock. Other surnames are Charlton (my grandmother?). Know very, very, little about my father, but he had a sister Jean (Jane?) who married a Major Ian MacLachlan. They lived in Edinburgh - she died a few years ago, but he is still alive. There is a link with Blyth in Northumberland. When my parents divorced, I lost contact with my father, and never knew his family, but would very much like to find out more. My grandfather built a model yacht for the Royal Exhibition I believe. I am very intrigued to find out the meaning and provenance of the name "Cublick".
