I just found your post from 2005. Do you know which Countrymans you are looking for? My Countryman line lived in several towns in Iowa including Clinton, however I do not recognize any of the other names you listed. Hope I can help if you are still looking.

Diane (Countryman) Moore

Try Marvel Cemetery, LaPlata Co., CO for the final resting place for James & Rachel Dawson.

Look for Jonas Dawson. You'll find his family in Missouri and before that Georgia, NC & SC.

Searching for male-line descendants of Robert Toombs Dawson of Lisbon, Claiborne Parish, LA

I am trying to find a male descendant of Robert Toombs Dawson, still bearing the name Dawson, for possible y-DNA testing. I am also a descendant of R. T. Dawson, but cannot be tested for the Dawson y-DNA since I am not in the all-male Dawson line. R. T. Dawson (1824-1880) was born in or near Wilkes Co., GA, but he and wife Sarah Ann Formby and family moved to Claiborne Parish, LA in the 1850's. They are buried in the Lisbon Cemetery. I know he had at least 2 sons: John William Dawson (1842-1902) and Gabriel Toombs Dawson (1848-1896), so my best bet is probably to find a male-line descendant of one of these sons. In more recent times I know that Grady T Dawson was tax assessor of Claiborne Parish, LA, in the 1950's. I think he was a descendant of Gabriel Toombs Dawson, so a male-line descendant of Grady T Dawson would be great for the y-DNA test. I would be happy to pay for this test if we can find an eligible and willing Dawson participant. The test itself is painless and just involves scraping a few cells from the inner cheek and mailing them to the testing company for analysis. The test results can determine whether or not our Dawsons are related to other Dawson lines. Hope to hear from a Dawson cousin!

It is highly unlikely that the Alice Stonehill whom I mave in my file is your Alice Stonehill (the marriage of William & Alice would have had to be a May -- December matchup), but thought I'd try.
I have some old Pastor's Memorandums and other writings by a S. D. Dawson of Dawson Maryland and Ridgley West Virginia dating back to the late 1800's and early 1900's. One of the Memorandums names a E. J. Dawson as an "in case of emergency" name. Another names a I. or L. Vanmeter. Does anybody know who these people were?

I suggest hat you firstly get hold of the marriage certificate. Winifred V Allford (Note double L) married Alfred J Dawson at Deptford in the third quarter of 1938. Reference 1d 2464.

This should tell you the age and occupation of the groom and the name and occupation of his father. This will help you to get the date of birth of Alfred, and his birth certificate which will help in further searches.

Regards,

Keith (Dawson)

Alfred Dawson

I am trying to help my grandmother find out what happened to her father. My grandmother, Pauline Cynthia (Dawson) McAbee was born in London England in 1938 to Winifred Violet Alford and Alfred Dawson. They had a second child 2 years later, Brenda. When my grandmother was about 4 (1943-1944) he left Winifred for good. He was suppose to be in the Royal Air Force and left due to WWII. Checking military records. I only found one Alfred Dawson in the royal air force during WWII and he died presumably in action; however, my grandmother did see him again until 1957 (so wrong Dawson). I am unsure if he was actually in the military or Winifred told my grandmother this because she was so young when he left and never revoked the tale. Rumor has it that he may have remarried and moved to Australia.

Born: around 1920
Place: most likely England probably London
Death: unknown if dead or alive, would be at between 85 and 100

Parents: unknown

Any information will help.

I am also interested in the family of Henry Dawson and his parents Isaac and Eliza nee Skerritt. While there are census records for 1861 and 1871 I am interested to find out more about deaths and also anything about Henry's siblings. Henry emigrated to Australia.

Anne
Canberra, Australia

I am also interested in Dawsons in Lincolnshire. I don't think it is quite the same family as malcolm1585 though.
My interest is in Isaac Dawson (born c 1831, son of Thomas) and his wife Eliza nee Skerritt (born c 1834 or 1838 daughter of Robert). They lived in Corby near Grantham. He was a licensed hawker.

I would be pleased to make contact with anybody researching the same family.

thanks
Anne
Canberra Australia

hi, i did a great deal of research on milly and her family only to find out after a year that her family ( with brooks ) was not mine. her name was actually milly ann dawson and she was married i believe 4 times -- widowed every time! her father was martin s dawson. i did leave the tree in regards to her on ancestry. she was married to miles b brooks born 1817 ( he was husband no. 2 ). you should be able to find the tree under his name. if you cannot let me know.

Hi Anne , Many thanks for your message. I have traced my Dawson line back now to the late 1700s in Wood Enderby , which is on the other side of the County to Grantham , so we are very likely looking at different families. Good luck with your research though ....

Regards, Malcolm

Dawson and Berry family Suffolk/Norfolk England UK

I'm searching for Mary Ann Gay, formerly Dawson nee Berry, from Thornham Suffolk. She was born about 1827 in Thornham (Magna) Suffolk. On October 1861 she married Charles Gay in Westminster, Middlesex. On this marriage cert she was formerly Mary Ann Dawson. Her father is stated as Richard Berry. I have found a marriage of Thomas Dawson to a Mary Ann Berry in 1851 Docking Norfolk. (I haven't sent for the certificate as yet.) Could this be the same Mary Ann Berry?. On the 1861 census I have found a Mary Ann Berry as a widow, born in Gt Thornham, Suffolk. By the end of the year she had married Charles Gay. Does nayone know of Mary Ann Berry's mothers maiden name, and did she have any brothers and sisters. There is a Charles Berry poss born Suffolk and a Hannah Maria Berry, born Eye Suffolk (married Alfred George) possibly related to Mary Ann. I have been told that Eye Suffolk comes under Thornham Magana Suffolk. Can anyone shed any light on these Berry's. I have been down the Berrys of Sudbury Suffolk and the Berrys related to the Lummis family in Suffolk, and far as I know they are a totally different families. Lots of Berrys in Suffolk and Norfolk. Thanks

Ollie,
I wish I could help on the parents of John Dawson and Lucy Gosney. But here's what I have for Allen and Lucy:

U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900
about Allen Dawson
Name:	Allen Dawson
Gender:	male
Birth Place:	VA
Birth Year:	1780
Spouse Name:	Lucy Wingfield
Spouse Birth Place:	VA
Spouse Birth Year:	1780
Marriage Year:	1806
Marriage State:	VA
Number Pages:	1
Marriage was 27 Jan. 1806.

Couldn't find any children. If you have any new information, I'd love to know!

Andrea
Robert Dawson - Western Mound, Macoupin Illinois

I'm looking for information about this family.
Robert Dawson - b. Feb 1837 England
Immigrated to US 1854.
Wife: Mary E (maiden name Cord?)
Children:
Mary,
Nettie (Antoinette),
Lillie,
Fannie,
Elmer,
Albert.

Specifically, one of their daughters (most likely Fannie) married a Hankins and gave birth to Fannie Elizabeth in Kansas in 1890. Fannie Elizabeth is my g-grandmother. I'm hitting a wall at trying to find out who Fannie Elizabeth's father is. One census has him from Kansas; another Missouri.

Any help would be appreciated

Terri
