My husband's father is Leonard Arthur Day, born 23 Nov 1909 in Kansas &
died: 11 Jan 1992 in Modesto, Stanislaus, Calif. According to my sister in law, he had a daughter named Linda. (She had seen a photo and asked "who is this"? The answer was "your dad's daughter Linda"). He worked in a mine and was called Jack, at that time.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?
In 1945 Robert had remarried a woman named Ruth (last name unknown) and was working at American Pipe & Steel in Alhambra California.
Unfortunately, my ancestors are from Scotland and possibly England. There is a sept from the Davidson clan in Scotland called the McDae sept that many present Day families descend from. I have some evidence that my lineage is from there either directly from Scotland or via England, but the Midean Day detail is what I am missing.

Thanks for lead. I have toyed with the idea of a DNA test but have not decided to spend the money just yet.

Re: Tom Day

Thanks for answering about Peter Day. My Great-Great-Great Grandfather John Meek, sold 100 acres of the Lemuel Blanton survey, which he had purchased in Collin County to Richard Day in 1857, before he moved to Wise County and later on to Erath County, Texas.

Also, I looked back at my records, it was a Joseph and Susan Day who are buried in the Brazos Point Cemetery in Somervell County. He was a circuit riding Methodist Minister. He lived in Collin County before coming to Brazos Point. The Harrison Stanford family along with that of his father-in-law, Joseph Day, moved to Johnson County (which adjoins Somervell Co.)in 1866. They settled about 18 miles southwest of Cleburne on a section of land beginning about a quarter mile due west from what is now know as "Five Oaks, about a mile east of the old Brazos Point River bridge. The first public crossing on the Brazos in that part of the county was on their land. The first official map of Cleburne shows West Henderson Street to be known as the Day Crossing Road.

There also was a Jefferson A. Day who served as the first postmaster of Brazos Point. Are any of these families related to Peter Day or to our Tom Day?

This information comes from a cousin of mine, Ella Lee Hudson Osborne, who wrote a self published book "In Remembrance of our Ancestors" from a newspaper column she published in the Glen Rose Reporter Newspaper. She grew up in the Brazos Point Community and married one of my Osborne cousins. She was related to Joseph Day, through Alice Francis Day, a daughter of Joseph Day. Alice Day married Washinton "Wash" Hudson. Alice was born August 10, 1866, and died young on February 10 1896. Alice and Wash had three sons, Jessie, Elmer, and Rube, also three daughers, Ethel, Earl, and Dora. Wash later married Fannie Wilson Mears, and they had one girl Ruth "Sis" Hudson.

Hope this helps with some of the Day family history.

I haven't found any evidence that Peter Day was related to Tom Day. Peter isn't a common name handed down in any of Tom Day's brothers or uncle's families. We don't know any thing about Tom Day's father's family. We do know that Tom's grandparents, Henry Day & Hannah Graham married in Stokes co NC, moved to Logan co KY where Henry died. Hannah Graham Day moved to IL with most of her children. Census records show that Peter Day was born in VA as were his parents. Tom Day's father was born in NC, married in Logan co KY. There is an Family Tree entry on Ancestry, Titled Day Family Tree-Public Member with Photos. The owner is Rick Day. He has 8 attached records, 9 sources; This is under Joseph Powell Day b 1 Jun 1768 d Apr 1856 Carroll co VA, m/1 Rhoda Cock; m/2 Rebecca Dunn on 10 Aug 1796 Grayson co VA. Peter is listed a Simon Peter Day on this tree; b 18 Mar 1836 Grayson co VA; d 1899 TX. There is a PDF file on the descendants of Joseph Powell Day on this family tree. On the PDF, he does list both wives for Peter Day; 2 ch by 1st wife; 8 ch by 2nd wife {who was married before}. There is a listing for Peter Day on Find A Grave, under Farmersville IOOF cemetery, Farmersville, Collin co TX. There is no info that I have found that shows Peter Day is related to Tom Day who married Margaret Meek. Just a coincidence that these 2 Days were in the same counties at the same time; maybe became friends or because of the last name noticed each other. I am related to Tom Day's Day family 3 ways. Hope this helps.

After further research, I now believe that Peter might have been another relative of Tom Day. They were both in Collin County, Texas at the same time and Peter Day moved to Somervell County, Texas very near where Tom Day and his wife, Margaret Jane Meek Day lived on the Paluxy River. At the time he moved there Somervell County was part of Hood County.

I have not been able to make a direct connection with Tom Day's family and Peter Day. He maybe a cousin or Uncle of Tom Day's father.

Hope this helps.

Janet Saltsgiver

Hi, I am a descendant of Samuel Day born 1757. Samuel Day is a possible descendant of Leonard Day born 1737. In order to prove/disapprove this, we need a male DAY descendant of Leonard Day to have a DNA test done. This will be paid for by us (Samuel Day researchers). This would be very helpful in finding our Samuel Day's parentage. I'm sure other direct decendants of the farmer Stephen Franklin Day would also appreciate seeing a copy of this bible. This would be a great source citation to share. There are source citations that conflict the connection between Dr. S.F. DAY and the farmer S.F.DAY. You are mistaken on the 1980 census. Dr, S.F. DAY's wife Eliza L. Straughan is widowed and living with her widowed daughter Mary D, Day(Hays) in 1880. On the other hand Elizabeth Strouse is listed in another 1880 census showing that she is living with the farmer S.F. DAY. THESE ARE TWO DIFFERENT WOMEM! Also Eliza L. Straughan is buried in Wooster Wayne County Ohio in the Dr. S.F. DAY's family burial plot. I've been to the cemetery. Where is Elizabeth Strouse buried in Wood County Ohio? What cemetery? I have told you previously that I believe that Dr. S.F. DAY may have had a previous marriage, especially considering his age. Possibly married and later divorced a Elizabeth Strouse. Or possibly the farmer S.F. DAY and his sister(s) are bastard children of the Dr. S.F. DAY. Look at the 1880 census of Eliza L.DAY(Straughan) and Elizabeth Strouse. Again without showing this bible written in farmer S.F. DAY'S hand your claim that he is the son of the Doctor is far fetched.

Guess the bible written in Stephen Franklin's hand must be wrong, along with the fact that his mother lived with him after the dear Dr. died and is buried in Wood County. Guess Stephen the poor farmer did not know who his father was. Bye

It is highly unlikely that Dr. Stephen Franklin Day from Wooster Wayne County is the father of Stephen Franklin Day the farmer from Wood County.

These are the facts;

Dr. Stephen Franklin Day's obituary does not mention a son Stephen Franklin Day from Wood County Oh. Dr. Stephen Franklin Day's will does not mention a son Stephen Franklin Day from Wood County Oh. Doctor Stephen Franklin Day's family burial plot located in Wooster does not include Stephen Franklin Day the farmer from Wood Co Oh. Dr. Stephen Franklin Day's was married to Eliza well after the Stephen Franklin Day the farmer was born. Stephen Franklin Day the farmer's obituary in 1909 lists a surviving sister named Catherine Baker. Never saw a reference of a daughter of Doctor Stephen Franklin Day named Catherine. There are no known source citations that I'm aware of that lists a previous marriage of Doctor Stephen Franklin Day.

I found no reference in any of the farmer Stephen Franklin Day's children's obituaries of having the famous pioneering doctor Stephen Franklin Day as their grandfather.

I believe there is a better chance that the farmer Stephen Franklin Day's grandfather was Nehemiah Day the Sgt in the Revolutionary war from Morris County New Jersey. Nehemiah did have a son named Stephen.

Sorry, the Doctor is not related to your ex-husband. No proof, no connection.

I forgot to include that since Stephen Day Sr and Eliza Straughn were married Jan 4, 1833 and the two unknown children and Stephen Franklin the farmer who was born 1826 were born before the 1833 marriage. I believe that Elizabeth Strause may have been the first wife and died sometime after Stephen's birth. Elaine Day

Saw your post. This is my ex-husbands family but I have seen Stephen Sr. married to Elizabeth Straughan or Elizabeth Floyd Straughan and on some of the children's death certificates as Elizabeth Strause. There were two more children on one of the census. Born prior to son Stephen Franklin the farmer of Rising Sun. Both females one born from 1815 to 1820 and the other 1825 to 1830. Unsure if they had the dates of the children correct. But my count with these two were ten children. Elizabeth Straughan died 1887 and was living near or with son Stephen born 1826. Elaine Day
Have NEVER proved he was related to Nehemiah Day and have seen the SAR reports that say he is and I am not convinced.

Eliza Ann Day Connection to Ballard Day Anderson County, South Carolina

Eliza was born 1800- 1805 married March 21, 1828 in Anderson County, SC. to Anthony Moore.
She and Anthony are on 1830 census with oldest daughter 3 pages from Sylvia. On the same page as Sylvia Day are Alexander and Alfred Moore. Alfred is brother to Anthony.
Sylvia has a daughter the right age in 1810 and 1820 census to be Eliza. Also Benjamin has a daughter the right age.

Now for the interesting part. Eliza died between 1839 - 1844 and her daughter Eliza married Beverly Rogers. For some unknown reason they moved immediately to Mississippi. Lived there long enough for a daughter Ann to be born and then moved to Cherokee, Alabama.
Cherokee, Alabama is only 14 miles from Iuka, Mississippi.

I believe that Eliza is a member of the Ballard Day family in some way. Can anyone help?

thanks
Amby

Printed in the following Newspaper
March 26. 1828.
Miller's Weekly Messenger
Pendleton, SouthCarolina
Editor, John Miller and Son
Abstracted by G.
