(Doctor) Clarence Ray Aurner, born about August 1862; died 17 October 1949(14); married 22 July 1896 to Nella Amelia Slayton (daughter of Stephen Charles Slayton and Ida M. Taylor) who was born 28 December 1873 at Eldora, Hardin, Iowa and died 16 September 1961(14). He served as Principal of Schools at Adel, Dallas, Iowa. He was an educator and historian; he was the author of several books. She was also a published author. [Her ancestry is in History of the Slayton Family, Asa W. Aurner, page 134, visit 521/606, Iowa City (2nd Ward), Johnson, Iowa. They are buried at Woodland Cemetery at Des Moines, Polk, Iowa. Known children, born in Iowa: Robert Ray Aurner, born 20 August 1898(17)(36), died 17 December 1990(17) in Monterey County, California(36), married 16 June 1921(R) to Kathryn Dayton who was born 23 September 1898(17) in Iowa(36) and died 27 February 1991(17) in Monterey County(36), he was a university professor (at the University of Wisconsin in 1930), they were both published authors; probably Donald Aurner, died 16 September 1900(14), buried at Woodland Cemetery; Ruth Isabel Aurner, born about 1913, married 22 December 1935 at Iowa City to Charles Leroy Tabb (son of Hugh Burkhart Tabb and Iona Belle Skaggs) who was born 21 December 1911 in Idaho and died 11 September 1968, they lived at Lanham, Prince George’s, Maryland(R).
