Dear John and Ann,
Thanks for your welcome email and info. I can add a little more to this story, I believe he was made a cannon by his bishop and followinng his death he was buried in Kanturk in the grounds of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The grave site can still clearly be seen and visited.
With grateful thanks
Dave

Dear David,

Happy New Year.

Thought you would be interested to know that we managed to locate our Parish Priest ancestor - "Father Jermome Deady" in London records.

His name was actually Jeremiah Joseph Deady and he was the PP of St Margarets and All Saints, Canning Town, in the Diocese of Brentwood. He died aged 57 in London on the 3rd June 1937 - registered in Hackney. He had been living at the Presbytery of that church since at least 1929 as he is recorded in the telephone directories between 1929 and 1937.

Have not found out anything else but hoping to unearth more on a visit to Dublin in a few weeks.

kind regards
John and Anne Fitzpatrick
(France)

Dear Dave,

We have a link from O'Sullivan Cellar in Kenmare, Co Kerry to Deadys of Kanturk.

Our link is a Margaret Deady who married Batt O'Sullivan a House Carpenter of Kenmare, probably around 1867. They were believed to be millers or Bakers from Kanturk.

Their son Patrick O'Sullivan Cellar was my Grandfather.

Margaret Deady had a 1st cousin who lived in Co. Cork, Eva O'Connor formerly Deady, who had 3 sons one of whom was called Jackie who lived in or around Cork City.

Margaret also had (at least) 2 brothers, Jack and Jeremiah who had a link to Tubrid ponds near Kenmare.

Another cousin of Margaret Deady was Canon Jerome Deady PP of a London Parish who died in the 1930s leaving his posessions to his sister in Kanturk. This sister may have been deaf or blind.

Another relation (though what relationship is not known) of Margaret Deady was a Poet, John Christmas Deady.

best wishes
Anne Fitzpatrick

Does anyone know of a strain of Deady's who anglicanized the name to Dadey and emmigrated to Canada? My great-great grandfather's name is Michael Dadey (married to Hermandine Fournier) and he was born in 1873 (I believe in Ontario). I haven't been able to trace my family back any further than him though.

I know that we're of Irish descent (his census record I found online confirms this), but don't know which county we came from, or what our last name truly was before the move. I've looked up our name in MacLysaght, and "Dady" is the only name that comes close and is a derivative of Deady.

I know that our family coat of arms is quartered with blue and silver, and there's an anchor in one corner, but haven't been able to see it since my grandfather passed away.

If any of this sounds familiar, please let me know

My great grandfather was Jeremiah Patrick Deady. His father was Edwin or Edward Deady, mother, Mary? We believe they were from Kerry County, Ireland, possibly Ardfert? Jeremiah had 2 brothers. Edwin and John. Edwin died in Ireland. The family believes he died in Sapphire Terrace, Churchill, Ireland? John and Jeremiah came to the US about 1850. John married Anna Mumford Davis and they resided and married in Troy, Ohio. Jeremiah married 1st. Sarah/Anna/Lettie Rinehart and married and resided in Kenton, Hardin County, Ohio. Jeremiah and Sarah divorced. Jeremiah then married Lucinda Tanner. Jeremiah and John were both enlisted in the civil war. Jeremiah was wounded at Gettysburg.
Does any of this sound familiar to any Deady's out there? I would love to know more about Jeremiah's father, Edward or Edwin, or his brother, Edwin who died in Ireland.
Joan

No, I'm not related to any Deady's, I received a picture from Peggy Mathewson of the 1951 Greer pee-wee football team and you are seated next to me in the picture. Out 9of curiosity I googled your name and found you here on Ancestry.com.

I just wanted to say hello. Every three years we have a school reunion with lunch in the school auditorium and a more formal dinner at a place wherever Jimmy Morton can reserva a hall for that date. I see that you weren't living that far away and thought you might want to attend the next one next year. If so, get back to me and I'll get you the info you would need.

By the way, it's really a pleasure to reconnect with you. I've thought of you often over the years since I discovered the reunions and started thinking about old classmates I haven't seen in a dog's age.

Best wishes, Bob

Michael, Joseph and David seem to be a common thread among many males with the last name of Deady.

My middle name is Michael... fathers name is Joseph and grandfather is William.

All born here in the northeast USA, I have no knowledge of my great grandfather or even if he originated in Ireland.

I place his birth somewhere in the late 1800's... perhaps somewhere between 1870 and 1880.

Search for Mary Ann Deady, London, England

Cannot find information on my great grandmother, Mary Ann Deady, who was born in London, England, around 1847 or 1848. She emigrated to America and soon married her boyfriend, Peter Lynch, also of England. The first year he drowned, and then she married Jotham Alfred Black on Oct 20 1866 in Erie, PA and had 9 children. From there on I have all of the history, but I need to find her origin. Please contact me if you have any clues.

My inquiry does not so much relate to the Deadys as to the Gellers. I have been given to understand that Robert (Bob) Deady has some information on the Ohio Gellers. My Ohio Geller was George W. Geller born in Ohio 1847 - 1849. I have a month of November given me as when, but not the year. Also, I know that prior to 1877 he and/or his family must have moved from Ohio to Indiana, as he was married to Martha J. Moricle that year (In Indiana). He settled in Randolph Co., Indiana after marriage and eventually moved to Minnesota. Any info on George will be appreciated.
Lawrence Anderson
Ronninge, SWEDEN

Matthew Paul Deady, b. 1824 Maryland to Oregon

Oregon Republican League:

Republican League Register of Oregon, The Register Publishing Company, 1896, page 200.

DEADY, HON MATTHEW PAUL., late Judge of the United States District Court, was born near Easton, Maryland, May 12, 1824. His early youth was spent in various places where his father taught school. In 1841 he went to Barnesville, Ohio, to learn the blacksmith trade, and followed it for years, at the same time attending the Barnesville Academy. He then began to teach school and study law, being admitted to the bar in 1847. In 1849 he crossed the plains and began teaching at Lafayette, Oregon. The next year he began to practice law, and was that year elected to the territorial legislature. In 1851 he was elected to the council, and was president of that body in 1852 and 1853. In 1853 he was appointed a Judge of the Territorial Supreme Court by the President. In 1857 he was a member of the constitutional convention. In 1859 he was appointed United States District Judge, which position he held till the time of his death, but two years ago. In 1862 he served as Code Commissioner for Oregon. He also compiled the laws of the state, and in 1874 again compiled them. In 1876 he was appointed a Regent of the University of Oregon, and was president of the board for many years. He helped organize the Library Association of Portland, and was continuously its president from 1872. To his exertions is due the handsome library building. Beginning his political career as a Democrat, Judge Deady became a Union man when war broke out in 1861, and was a Republican ever after.

-Tony Larson

I have found some records about Eliza Ann Deady sole surviving heir of Daniel Deady of Baltimore MD. She had four children by Gunning VS Bedford who died in Baltimore of consumption in 1809. She then remarried Richard Bennet Mitchell and had three children by him. The estate settlement caused much litigation in the chancery courts of Baltimore and thus the names of the children are known.
Richard B. Mitchell married the daughter of Eliza Deady and Gunning Bedford after Eliza died. They had a daughter named Mary. If anyone has additional information on what became of Mary or any further information on this family I would like to share. Apparently the widow of Daniel Deady remarried and moved to a southern state.
