Margaret Brounlie married James Deans around 1845 and had 2 children, Lilias and Alexander (born 1847). James was killed in a mini accident in 1847 and Margaret Brounlie (Deans) remarried to a Mr. Watson. I believe that Mr. Watson and Mrs Margaret Brounlie emmigrated to America taking only their son, Alexander. Lilias remained in Scotland with her Grandfather (Alexander).Anybody who feels they have a connection to this please get in touch with me.

A big 'hi' to all the 'Deans' out there. Am a fairly new member on here and am gradually building up the family tree.
My name is Ashley Stewart Deans born in Uxbridge, Middx, England in 1959. My elder brother, Lyndon is the first of our branch of the Deans family to be born in England. Our family go back to mid 1700s starting in the Skene area, west of Aberdeen and then start spreading to Westruther (Berwickshire), Cambusnethan, Carstairs and Carnwath (Lanarkshire). In the early 1900s, my grandfather (Ronald Campbell) went to India as a clerk in a bank and married my grandmother, Lily MacBean who was born in India. Her father was a tea planter and manager of a tea garden in the Kangra Valley. My Grandparents married in Karachi. So, if anybody has any further information about this or any other connection pleasae get in touch with me.

My father is Peter Deans (born in India) and his brother is Malcolm Deans (also born in India and emmigrated to the USA in 1961).

I am great-grandaughter to William DEANS and Annie MERSON who married in Scotland and emigrated to USA approx. 1895. I have some info a few generations back but lots of blank spaces. Annie Merson's father was M. S. Stuart. I'm interested in trading info. I understand Deans was part of the Davidson clan way back. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks for information. I agree that it is unclear if Betty Parnol Deans or Altney is the Mother of Turner and / or Martha. Another anomally that I noted in census when they are listed as living next door to Wilie and Altney is age of Altney is same as Betty when in previous census it was several years difference.

I am the grandson of Turner Deans. Also having trouble following Martha's desendents. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!!

I have been helping a descendant of this family through Turner Deans. If you look closely at the information in the 1860 census, Betty Parnell was a "domestic" in the Deans household. In 1870 she appears as Bettie(sp) Deans next door to Wilie and Altney, with what looks like her two own children, Turner and Martha. I don't think that the children were Altney's, because she would have been too old to be Martha's mother. Do you descend from Turner or Martha?
In another twist that deals with the Parnells, Turner's wife Elizabeth is the daughter of James Wilkerson and Ivanda Parnell, according to her death certificate, 27 Feb 1938.

Hello, I am inquiring about a Georgia Dean(s) (not sure where she is from, I think VA) but she is suppose to be the mother of ST Smallwood (died in 1958) and the wife of N/Hathaniel Smallwood. All I know is she was found in the 1920 and/or 30's Bertie county census and she was recorded having other children including children with the last name Heckstall (listed as mulatto). I heard she may have had family from VA. Does anyone have any pieces to this missing puzzle?

My gggrandfather married a Mary Boles My g grandfather Joseph married Mary Anderson. These names were very familiar to me as a child. grandfather Joseph M Deans, wife Matilta Loomer Deans.
Other family members were Electa M Deans Barnes, Fidelia I. Deans Page John N deans Jr.
Joseph and Matilta came to Tennessee in the early 1880's

My ancestors, the Deans or Dean family from Great Shelford, Cambridgeshire England migrated to Wisconsin in about the mid 1850's. William Dean his wife Hannah Ellum or Ellam Dean came to West Bend, Wisconsin with their son Henry Dean (my great-great grandfather). Henry Dean (b. 1834 Great Shelford, Camb. d. I was glad to receive your message. It has been many years since I have posted my interest in Deans of CT & PA and have had no success in further research.

One of the biggest barriers I have is whether Asahel (Asel) Deans and Zebulon Deans -- both married to Crocker women -- are indeed brothers. Another barrier are names and info of children of Asahel Deans. I have made a strong assumption that one of the children is my ancestor, Emily Deans 1805-1895, born in PA; father named Asel on death certificate; father born CT.

I would be grateful for any information that would give me clues that I am on the right track with this family.

Do you have parents for Zebulon Crocker?

It has taken me to long to reply to your posting. Mainly I am interested in your comment regarding any Deans on the Isle 1850's.

I have been searching for a connection of my family tree which goes cold and blank.

My gr.grandmother was Elizabeth Jeannie Deans, born in Glasgow.
She married John Stewart Wood in 1908.
Her parents (which is my dead end) were,
James Deans (born in Ireland ?)
and Christina Shaw (born in ?)
They were said to be married in 1878 in Calton, Lanark, Scotland.

I am wondering if you know anything about this side of the Deans. If so I would be so appreciative of the information.

Feb. 1856; Joanna, b. August, 1858; Simon Peter, b. Nov. 1860; Brown, b. 1865; Louiza, b. Feb. 1873; David, b. 1875. All of the Deans children were born in Nash County.

Elbert Ricks and Mary Deans, married 1869, Nash County. Parents of Solomon, b. March 1870; John, b. Dec. 1872; James, b. 1874; Lillie, b. Dec. 1876; Peter, b. 1878; Joshua, b. 1880. All of the Elbert Ricks children were born in Nash County, Jackson Township. During the years between 1880 and 1890 the Ricks family moved to Assumption County Louisiana. Ray Ricks was born July 1891 and Noah, b. Aug. 1892. Both were born in Assumption County Louisiana. The years between 1890 and 1900 the Ricks family moved to Lonoke County Arkansas. John Ricks and Margaret Ricks were married in Louisiana, 1900. Parents of Willie, b. 190l; Carl, b. 1903; Sandra, b. 1907. All of the John Ricks children were born in Washington County Louisiana. No further information on the John Ricks family.

James Ricks and Laura Ricks were married, 1894. Parents of Clandy, b. 1895; Inez, b. 1896; Carola, b. 1902; Brenda. 1903; Ora, b. 1904; Leonra, b. 1905; and Azzie, a son, b. 1906. All of the James Ricks children were born in Arkansas.

JOSHUA DEANS and Rebecca Perry were married, January 21, 1875, at the residence of Roy Perry, father of the bride, in Jackson Township, Nash County. Parents of Annie, b. Dec. 9, 1875; Patsy, b. March 1878; Elizabeth, b. April 1880. All of the children born to Joshua Deans and Rebecca Perry were born in Jackson Township.

Samuel Cohen and Annie Deans were married December 23, 1897, in Nash County. Their residence was locatd at 113 North Tillery Street, Rocky Mt. Township. The place of burial, Wilson County, Elm City Township. After his death, Annie Deans Cohen continued to live at the same location until her death May 7, 1972, at the Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mt. She was 97 years old.
Patsy and Elizabeth Deans were living with their parents when the 1900 census was taken. No information found since that time.

JOSHUA DEANS AND JULIA ARRINGTON PIERCE were married February 21, 1905, in Nash County, Rocky Mt. Township. Parents of Minnie Lee, b. June 8, 1906; Daisy, b. June 6, 1907; James Arthur, b. August 28, l908, Ernest, b. May 3, 1910; Allen, b. November 26, 1911, Lewis Henry, b. October 11, 1913; Armon and Norman (twins), b. May 13, 1915; John Dawson, b. April 15, 1917; Mary Lee and Martha Mae (twins), b. March 26, 1919; Joshua Alton, Jr., b. April 26, 1921; Julia Senora, b. January 20, 1923. All of the children born to Joshua Deans and Julia Arrington Pierce were born in Wilson County, Toisnot Township, with the exception of James Arthur. He was born in Elm City Township.

William Wesley Haywood (a widower with 5 children) and Minnie Lee Deans (mother of Bessie Williams) were married July 6, 1927, Nash County, Nashville Township. The Haywood children are William Wesley Haywood, Jr., b. 1921-19--[d.]; Elizabeth, b. 1922-[d. 198-]; Inell, b. 1923; Berkett, b. 1925; Irene, b. 1926-d. 19--?. All of the William Wesley Haywood, Sr. children werre born in Toisnot Township except William Wesley, Jr. He was born in Gardners Township. William Wesley Haywood, Sr., d. August 3, 1983, Norfolk Towhship, Virginia.
Daisy Deans Lived with her parents in the Toisnot Township area until her death. She died September 13, 1922 of typhoid fever. She was burried in Elm City Township.

James Deans lived with his parents for a number of years. He travelled frequently from state to state, sometimes as a chef/cook. He always would return to the Toisnot Township area where the Joshua Deans, Sr., family was living. Just prior to his death he was living with his sister, Glendora Pierce Fox in Rocky Mt. Township. He had been in ill health for quite some time and died September 12, 1937, in Edgecomb County, Rocky Mt. Township. He was burried in Elm City Township.

Ernest Deans lived with his parents for a number of years. He and Nannie Pearl Franklin were married July 3, 1937, Nash County, Nashville Township. They lived in Elm City Township until his death. He died June 21, 1951. He was burried in Elm City Township. Nannie Pearl Franklin Deans died in 1953, also in Elm City Township and buried there.

Allen Deans grew up in the Toisnot Township area along with other members of the Deans family. He was walking along the highway between Elm City Township and Wilson Township. The time was approximately 7:30 - 8:00 p.m. He was struck by an auto travelling at a high rate of speed. He died the following day, January 20, 1929. He was buried in Elm City Township.

Lewis Henry Deans and Gilberta Lothery were married in 1938, in Romeo, Michigan. Gilberta Lothery Deans died in 1942, in Washington, D. C.

Lewis Henry Deans married Savance Guinevere Murphy in They presently reside in Kansas City, Mo.(1992) Parents of Shirley Mae, b. ; Lewis Henry, II, b. ; Joyce and Jewel (twins), b. . Joyce now deceased. Mary Louise, b. , d. ;

He left Brooklyn Brouogh after a few years and went to Washington, D. C. where he met and married Lizzie Rebecca Behlin, May/April 28, 1938. Parents of Sandra Armelia Deans, b. August 24, 1940; Joyce Annette Deans, b. February 11, 1948. Both of the Armon Deans children were born in Washington, D. C. Armon Deans died May 7, 1959, at home, in Washington, D. C. L. Rebecca Behlin Deans continues to live at the family residence in Washington, D. C.

Sandra Armelia Deans was married to Robert Louis Key, Jr., June 15, 1963, Washington, D. C. Parents of Stephen Fitzgerald, b. January 18, 1965, Washington, D. C. The Robert Key, Jr. , family presently resides in Landover, Maryland.

Joyce Annette Deans was married to Kenneth Robert Alford, September 12, , in Washington, D. C. Parents of Yolonda Richelle, b. August 29, ; Kenneth Robert, II, January 18, . Both children were born in Washington, D. C. The Kenneth Alford family resides in Washington, D. C.

Norman Deans grew up in the Toisnot Township area along with his bothers and sisters of the Joshua Deans family. He left the Toisnot Township in January 1940 to live with the Rev. W. Haywood family. He lived with them for one year, and in January 1941, left for Washington, D. C. He met Phyllis Deloris Johnson in September 1943. He was inducted into the Navy on April 17, 1944. He went through six weeks of Boot Training at the Naval Training Station, Bainbridge, Maryland. He and Phyllis Deloris Johnson were married May 29, 1944, in Washington, D. C. For his military duties he was awarded an Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, A Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star, and Navy Good Conduct Medal. He was discharged from the Navy January 22, 1946, in Bainbridge, Maryland. Parents of Norman Deans, Jr., b. November 16, 1946, in Washington, D. C.
Norman Deans, Jr. grew up in Washington, D. C., the north east section. He attended Eastern High School. After graduation from Eastern, he began his career in the Federal Government. Since 1966 he has been employed at the Department of State.

John Dawson Deans lived with his parents in the Toisnot Township area until 1941. He went to live in Washington, D. C. during 1941 and lived in the north east section. He served in the military service but no records are available at this time. Prior to his death, he was residing at 148 U Street, N. E., Washington, D. C. On April 6, 1960, his body was found floating in the Anacostia River in North East Washington, death due to drowning. He was buried April 11, 1960, in Arlington National Cemetery. Arlington, Virginia.

Joseph Hagans and Estelle Dawson were married May 18, 1925, Wilson County, Elm City Township. Parents of Joseph, Jr., b. 1927, Toisnot Township; William, b. 1929, Toisnot Township. The Joseph Hagans, Sr., family moved to Philadelphia, Pa., in 1931. Estelle Dawson Hagans died in 1937, in Philadelphia.

Joseph Hagans, Sr., and Jeuverna Halloman were married in 1941 in Phildelphia, Pa. Joseph founded the Hagan's Auto Repair shop in 1939, and after he retired in 1978, turned the business over to his sons, Joseph, Jr. and William. Joseph Hagans, Sr., died December 15, 1982, in Philadelphia, Pa. His wife, Jeuverna Halloman Hagans is currently living in Philadelphia. His sons are still in the auto repair business.
Johnnie Hagans and Carrie Battle were married February 6, 1926, in Wilson Township. Parents of Marianne Hagans, b. 1927, Elm City Township; Johnnie Hubert, b. 1929, Elm City Township; Clara Rematha, b. 1933, Toisnot Township; James Douglas, b. 1935, Toisnot Township.

Jack Batts and Marianne Hagans were married during the nineteen forties. No records were available for the exact date. They lived in the Toisnot Township area for a number of years. Marianne Batts Hagans died in recent years. No records were available for the exact year or date of her death.

Johnnie Hubert lived with his parents in the Toisnot Township area for a number of years. No records were available for date of his marriage. He chose Wilson Township for his residence, and worked with his father in the auto repair business.

Clara Rematha Hagans lived with her parents for a number of years. No records were available for her after her marriage.

Biscoe Hagans died in 1943 in Toisnot Township. After his deather Julia Arrington Pierce Deans Hagans continued to live in the Toisnot Township area until August 1961. She moved to Ivor, Va. to live with her daughter, Martha Mae Deans McClain and her son-in-law Theodore R. McClain. She was in ill health at that time, and on November 6, 1961, Dr. W. F. Doughtry of Courtland, Va. came to the McClain's home and treated her. He was her physician from November 6, 1961, until her death September 22, 1972. She died in Southampton County, Zuni Township, Virginia. She was buried in Wilson County, Elm City Township, North Carolina.

Lewis Hagans and Louisa Edwards were married January 13, 1923, Wilson County, Saratoga Township. No further information on either of them. No further information on Johnny Hagans.

My grandfather was Armon Deans he was from that area. His mother was mixed and married a Deans, Arrington, & Fox. I saw a picture of my great grandmother and her hair was soo long and to her back. On her birth certificate it stated Malotto, she often told my mother stories about her father who was white owning a store in Rocky Mount and how she could go to the store and get anything. He never married my great-great grandmother of course but everyone in Enfield, and Rocky Mount knew he had black children. I want to find my family. My grandfather left North Carolina and moved to Washington, DC. He has a brother Joshua Deans in Chicago, a city Martha living in Virginia, and a sister Julia Mckinnon living in Washington DC, she often told my stories about the family there.

Before my dad died I tried and tried to find out what happen to his father and had no luck, all he remember is that his dad dropped him off at foster care never to return, I think that hurt him his entire life, I use to tell him we never know what may have happen to him maybe he got sick and passed away? do you know what happen to our grandfather? or what happen to our grandmother? Its just the biggest mystery to all of us?

Zebulon Deans born CT 1770 died in Montrose, PA

A cousin of mine and I could use some help. We are both descendants of Zebulon Deans who was born abt. 1770 in CT and died in Montrose, PA in 1848. He married Olive Crocker and had about 8 children that we know of. We have alot of information to share from Zebulon on down, but are having a hard time finding who his parents and siblings were. Presumably, he had a brother named Asahel who married Olive Crocker's sister Huldah; but we can't find much on him or can prove that they really were brothers. All we know is that he lived in Susquehanna County, PA but moved to New York and some of his family...if not all, dropped the "S" from the last name. From everything we've been able to find the Deans family was very well known in Susquehanna County and also Delaware County, PA. If anyone is connected to this family and can help us, please feel free to write. My cousin and I would love to find more of our Deans relatives.

Hi Darwina, I'm sorry I didn't get right back to you....been away from my computer for a few days. As far as I can tell, Asahel and Zebulon Deans were brothers who married Crocker sisters. I am a descendant of Zebulon...he would of been my 5th great grandfather...his son John F. Deans that married Eleanor Sterling would of been my 4th great grandfather. I've been able to find loads of information on Zebulon's line...but not that much...yet on Asahel's line...though I did find him in an earlier census record. Let me get together what I have for you and I'll be more than happy to email it to you. But I'm about to work on Asahel's line a bit and I'll be sure to let you know what I can find. I believe Asahel's line were at one time in Pennsylvania, very early on...but I believe most of his line were in the New York area. I found SOME of his children...but I know there were probably a couple more. I do have the full subscription to Ancestry.com; which has been a big help. And another thing that I've found is that in some cases, the "S" has been dropped off of Deans. But I'll be sure to keep you in the loop of anything new I can find. I did find a few things on Asahel's line a few months ago...but I had a computer crash and lost some of it. I'm in the process of gathering the information I lost. My name is Andrew Deans, I noticed your posting on the site, asking about a Henry Deans.
Henry Deans is a pretty unusual name combination, and just wanted to let you know that my grandfather, (Robert Deans) had a brother Henry Gibson Deans, born 1899 in Ayrshire, died 1953 in Bo'ness. Henry was illegitimate at birth, his mother's name being Gibson, but when she married my great grandfather (Matthew)in 1900, he kept his mother's maiden, as a middle name, and then had Deans added.
I don't believe Henry was, however one of 11 children, so perhaps there's no link.

looking for info on this complicated lot. I believe Hugh Deans was born in Ireland circa 1817. He married Elizabeth Holt born at Halfmorton circa 1827 (census), her parents were Thomas Holt and Mary Bell or Broach, Hugh and Elizabeth had a daughter Margaret (death cert Deans), and son Thomas, registered as "Denny"
Hugh and Elizabeth's definate death cert call them Denny.
Margarets definate death cert is Deans,
The certs make it all confusing and I can't find Margaret Hugh or Elizabeth's birth certs. Also cant find info on Elizabeths parents, any help would be appreciated.

i am looking for relatives of the following Adam Deans born approx 1791 in Limerack and he married Margaret Brownlee approx 1822 Margaret was born approx 1795.
Dont know when the family moved to Scotland but I know they had one son called Robert Dean and he married Janet McKay and moved to Isle of Bute Rothesay and Kingarth.
Any Dean or Deans on the Isle after the 1850's are all related to me as they are the only Dean/ Deans on the Isle.
