Clyde Harvey Nickey, need his wife’s Anna S. --?-- maiden surname

Clyde Harvey Nickey (b. about 1875 in Paw Paw, Lee Co., IL) 2nd wife according to the 1910 U.S. Federal Census was Anna S. --?-- (b. about 1874 in PA). This source also indicates her parents were born in Pennsylvania. They lived in 1910 in San Francisco, CA. She died or they divorced before the 1920 U.S. Federal Census. Clyde’s 1st marriage was to Cala (Callie) Carver around 1899 in Lee Co., IL. She died, possible due to childbirth, in Orange Co., CA in 1901. Clyde then moved to Los Angles Co., CA sometime after 1900. After Anna he married several more times and moved again to Orange Co. and then Los Angles Co., before his death in 1938.

Clyde is my second cousin twice removed. He has me treading water with his numerous wives and relocations between Censuses. What is Anna S. --?-- maiden surname, what County in Pennsylvania was she born in, where did they got married, who are her parents, etc. It is possible that the “S” in her name is the starting initial of her maiden surname or a past married surname. Any information on Ann would be very helpful and appreciated.

Possible Ancestral help: Clyde’s parents are Franklin Pierce Nickey (b. about 1853 in East Berlin, Adams Co., PA) and Mary Emma Wilcox Alvord (b. about 1854 in Princeton, Bureau Co., IL). Franklin’s parents are Henry L. Nickey (b. about 1820/21 in East Berlin, Adams Co., PA) and Elizabeth Deardorff (b. about 1827 in York, York Co., PA). Franklin move moved probably to Illinois sometime before 1874 and then to California in the late 1800’s.

My genealogy efforts are limited to the Nickey surname descendants and spouses of George Niecke (b. about 1710 in Saxony, Germany), the first Nickey in North America. I have currently identified the existents of 1,227 surname Nickey’s and spouses of Georg Niecke I have no desire to publish this information for profit. My work is far from complete, but I’m willing to share everything I have. Due to my age I’m eager to locate individuals that will possibly continue and share this information.

Best wishes, Bradley (Brad) Baer Nickey.
Re: Susannah Deardorff

Hi,

I feel that Susannah belongs with the family of Anthony Dierdorff/Deardorff (1783-1857) and Elizabeth Schlushler, who lived in Franklin Township. I believe that this Anthony did leave a will. Have you already checked that? If not, you can get a copy from the Adams County Historical Society. I have not seen the will, but I did see a statement at Findagrave that said this about Barnard, a son of the above Anthony and Elizabeth: "Bernard took over the original Deardorff homestead. Benjamin and Isaac, were each given a farm and the four living daughters the same amount in money." I emailed the contributor, but have not heard back from her yet.

I have Barnard, Isaac and Benjamin with their sisters, Margaret, Nancy and Lydia (who apparently never married). I have a hunch that the missing daughter is Susannah.

In 1850, George and Susanna Kann and their family lived next door to the above Isaac Deardorff and his family in Cumberland Township, Adams County.

Email me privately at vrstern@earthlink.net and I will send you the details I have so far on this family.

Vanessa

David H. Deardorff b. May 11, 1827 Indiana d. July 25, 1904 Deardorff Valey, OR.

Date: July 26, 1904
Location: Oregon
Paper: Oregonian
Page 4

DEATH OF CLACKAMAS COUNTY PIONEER

David H. Deardorff, pioneer of 1852, and founder of Deardorff Valley, 12 miles southeast of Portland, in Clackamas county, died yesterday morning in the old home, where he went 52 years ago. Mr. Deardorff was born in Indiana May 11, 1827, and was married to Lucinda A. Armentrout February 10, 1848. They started with a large party across the plains with ox-teams, and arriving the same year, settled in Clackamas County, near Damascus, where he took up a donation land claim of 640 acres of land. At that time there were but two or three farms between him and Portland, but about his farm there has grown up a very prosperous community. Mr. Deardorff was highly respected in the community. He is survived by ten children - five boys and five girls- who are as follows: George, Joseph, and Estes Deardorff, Mrs. Emma Chitwood, Damascus; Mrs. Ellen More of Eugene, Lane county; Lewis Deardorff and Mrs. Annie Kriesel, Portland; John M. Deardorff, Morrow county; Mrs. Effie Loveince and Mrs. Ida Huxley, of Garfield County, Oregon. Besides these children, there are many grand and great-grandchildren. Tobias Deardorff is a brother, and Mrs. Captain Henness, of Mount Tabor, and Mrs. H. Darling of Portland, are his sisters. The funeral will be held this morning at 11, from the house, in Deardorff Valley, and Multnomah Cemetery will be the place of interment.

Site for cemetery information:
http://www.oregonmetro.gov/index.cfm/go/by.web/id=12692

I am not related.

I am looking for any earlier info on my great grandmother Emma Deardorff b: 7 Oct 1862 in Mansfield, Ohio and died 13 Aug 1938 in Kinderhook, Branch, MI. She married Walter Forward Haskell 13 Nov 1884 purportedly in Lincoln NE. Haven't found verification of that yet.

Emma was the child of John Deardorff b: abt 1796 in PA who died 25 Mar 1878, probably in Ohio. His wife was Elizabeth Grindle b: 27 Oct 1827 in Ireland and d: 4 Sept 1893. Elizabeth had one prior marriage to Joseph Connolly (or Connolley) in 1847 in Ireland.

Am looking for sibs, more factual info on John Deardorff. Can't find any early censuses for PA or OH that might give me more info. Thanks. Becky in MI

Sorry I forgot to answer your question.....My source for her birth year is on all census she is shown as being a year older then her husband George, and I'm reasonably sure his birth year is 1814 But now re-checking on a Death Memory Card I have of her's.... it states she Died Sept. 21, 1889 at the age of 78 years, so depending on her birth date she could have been born 1811 or 1812.

susan

Looking for info on parents/siblings/ancestry of Jacob V. Deardorff, born ca 1815 in Ohio, died ca. 1879 in Darke County, Ohio. His mother's name was Anna, born ca. 1778 in Pennsylvania; the father had died by 1850. Jacob was enumerated in Warren Co., Ohio, in 1850 and 1860, Butler Co., Ohio, in 1870. Married: 1st 1842 Emily A. Funk in Champaign County, Ohio; 2nd 1854 Rosannah L. Taylor, daughter of Alexander and Mary Ann (Tucker) Taylor of Montgomery County, Ohio. Jacob V. and Rosannah had at least 4 children: Jacob M., Alexander S., Mary Ann Loretta, and William Augustus. William Augustus Deardorff was my great-grandfather.

There were at least two other Jacob Deardorff's about the same age in southwest Ohio in the early-mid 1800s which adds confusion, as well as the variations in spelling. Any info appreciated.

Hi Just wanted to know if you or anyone out there know any more on this Rebecca and her husband John? Landon, and or their daughter Rebecca. I have more on this Deardorff-Dierdorff family but would like to have more on the Landon Family that was connected to the Deardorff family. I know that 2 other Landon children ( Benjamin and Affa) married into this Deardorff family.

India
IWolf54197@aol.com

The online trees are only as good (or bad) as the research abilities -- or lack thereof -- of the people who put them together.

What bothers me is how many errors there are in the OneWorldTree (LDS) which is 'supposed' to be a source of truth. Some of the data look like they were thrown together almost haphazardly.

Hello,
I am looking for a John Hiner who was assigned guardianship of Jacob and Elizabeth Deardorff in 1791. They are the children of Henry Deardorff who died in Botetourt VA in 1791. Both Jacob and Elizabeth were under the age of 14 at the time. I think I have seen a John Hiner married to a Mary Deardorff but I dead end there. Elizabeth marries a Stephen Staley in 1809 in Botetourt. An Elizabeth Sarah Stailey, Stephen' sister, married a Jacob Dearduff in 1808 in Botetourt Va. Are these two brother and sister? How are they related to John Hiner? I found a John Heiner married to a Mary Deardorff. How is she related to Harry and are any of them related to Peter Dierdorff son of Anthony Deirdorff and Anna Marie Yeager?
Jacob and Sarah move to Brush Creek Mo where he died in 1837.
Thanks,
LeAnne Deardeuff

He was the son of Peter Dierdorff and Christina Anna Swyer. This Peter was born 18 APril 1742 in Amwell, New Jersey, and died 20 October 1816 in Bedford County, Virginia. I was wondering if you have any information regarding Jacob Deardorff from Preble Ohio born in 1781 in York. He married Elizabeth Lesh. I have reason to believe that Jacob Dearduff from Brush Creek Highland CO OHio who married Sarah Stailey is Peter Deirdorff's son (mother Anna Swyer) not Jacob from Preble Ohio. I am hoping you might have more information on that line.

My genealogy research has taken me to a point where I am reaching out to people who may be able to provide me some insight to my family. I am currently researching my family “Deardorff, Deardoff) and noticed that you posted a message stated you have done extensive research. I am looking for additional information on:

Samuel Deardoff (Deardorff) b. 15 Oct 1804 in Pennsylvania d. 31 Dec 1863 Elkhart IN

Married

Elizabeth Studebaker b. 5 Jun 1803 in Pennsylvania d. 12 Nov 1866 Elkhart IN

Children,

Jeremiah

Joseph, born – Pennsylvania

Sarah, born - Pennsylvania
Walter, born - Pennsylvania
Nancy, born - Pennsylvania
Andrew, born - Pennsylvania
Porter, born - Ohio
Elizabeth, born - Ohio
Rebecca, born – Ohio

I would like to know more about Samuel.
I did find the estate of Samuel Deardorf and have someone in Elkhart looking over the estate papers and will this week. I have a family bible with Elizabeth Studebaker listed as Samuel's wife and mentioned in the 1850 census along with the rest of the family in Elkhart, IN. I do believe there was another Samuel and Sarah living in the area at the same time as well. If you are interested and the estate and will are for Samuel and Sarah, I will provide you with all the facts I get.
Chris
