I have quite a bit of information on Maggie Shipman and her family and I actually remember her. I attended her funeral,, but in 1958 I was 9 and I don't remember too much about the family except some info my dad gave me. I also have Maggie And William's original marriage license.

I can fill in Deary names for the large family picture.
2nd row left to right: # 3 is my grandmother Ollie Tarplet Deary (George's wife); she is holding #4 who is my dad, Orvil Deary

Front row left to right: #2 is my aunt Jewell Deary Rogers (oldest daughter of George and Ollie and twin of Euel Deary); #3 is Oleta Deary Shepherd 4th child of George and Ollie; #8 is Euel Deary; and #9 is Harlan Deary, their 3rd child. My dad was the youngest.

George also had a sister, Grace, who I also cannot find any info on other than she was married 2 or 3 times, and one's last nam was Flippo. I did find one of her grandsons, but he didn't have any other info either. She evidently left one hosband and children for another man.

Thank you so much for this information.
My mother says "family" lore is that Maggie moved to Fannin Texas with a large number of her Shipman family. She was the daughter of John Madison Shipman and Paratine Avery. The family had moved north from Alabama to Tennesee due to hardships from the Civil War.

William Deary was also from Tennessee. We think his parents names were Seton and Sarah Ann - The census records did a number on the names - I think "Will Derry" of Tennessee is how it's listed.

The Shipman's and Deary's all joined the move to Fannin county when the railroad went through Honey Grove.

Hi, Lorene:

Thanks for the prompt reply and information. Maybe you should just e-mail me to continue this, if you don't mind. My e-mail address is: OfoolIshallgomad@gmail.com. Actually, I am looking into this line for my sister-in-law and her family (I'm not related). I tracked James back (through his naturalization petition) to Glentown, Donegal, where he was born in 1865 (per the petition). Does this correspond to what you have on the family?

Thanks,

Richard

Hello Richard,
Yes, this is the same Deary family that I am researching. James Deary was my grandfather's brother.
There were five children that I know of:
Charles H. was born Oct. 20, 1858
Thomas Nathaniel was born April 12, 1860.
Ellen born about 1862
James was born March 17, 1863
Henry Edward Jan 6, 1865
There could be more. Their father was Edward Deery and their mother Margaret McElrone. I have more information on these children and their children if you are interested, but I don't go any farther back than Edward and Margaret.
How are you connected with this family? Are we cousins?
Lorene

Lorene:

I am working on a Deary family who moved into Saugus in the 1890s: the family of James Deary, b. 1865 in Donegal County, Ireland, and wife Susan Gilson. I suspect that a Charles Deary b. 1850-60 (wife: Ann Devine) who lived in Saugus at around the same time, before moving to Dudley, Massachusetts, by 1910, was related to James. The Charles Deary of Saugus I am referencing had a son, Thomas Charles Deary, born 1889 in Massachusetts. Is this the Thomas of Saugus you are referencing, or do you otherwise know anything about this Charles Deary, husband of Ann Devine? I think I have tracked this Charles to Row parish, Dumbartonshire County, Scotland in the 1881 census and, if so, Charles was born in Donegal County, Ireland.

Richard

John Zellers is my great-great-grandfather, which makes Ephriam my great-great-great grandfather. The last time Ancestry.com had an open house, I found the following:

In the year 1846 the active members of Heller's Church undertook to establish a Sunday-school. At that date there was no other Sunday-school in the community, and such an organization was looked upon with suspicion by some, and actively opposed by others. But the positive element at work, encouraged by the pastor, Rev. D. Hertz, overcame all opposition; the school, under the leadership of Henry Stauffer, as the superintendent, was successful, largely attended, and made a favorable impression upon the community. In 1850 the officers were John Johns, president; Daniel Bushong, secretary; Isaac Bushong, superintendent; John Zellers, assistant superintendent; John Bushong, Daniel Bitzer, J. H. Bean, directors; Catherine Heller, Elizabeth Graham, and Eliza Sutton, directresses. Commencing with the year 1856, the school held its sessions
for several years in Mill Creek schoolhouse, and was known as the Mill Creek Sundayschool.
John Zellers is my great-great grandfather. I have traced the Zellers line back to Ephriam, but have had no luck finding out where he came from, whether he was born in Pennsylvania or immigrated directly from Europe.

I've been to Heller's churchyard, most recently about 15 years ago. Unfortunately, it is the wrong side of the continent for me at the moment.

I have discovered that Catherine's maiden name was Swope.

I also found a document on Ancestry.com that talks about how John Zellers helped found the Sunday School at Heller's church.

Mark Z.
Mark,
I have birth and death dates and one census record for Ephraim and Catherine, but no other information. I only have circumstantial evidence linking Susanna to them. Ephraim and Catherine have a daughter named Susanna age 11 in the 1850 census (Susanna was born in 1839) . Susanna had a son named Ephraim, and she is buried in the same cemetery as Ephraim and Catherine. I would be interested in any information you have on this family, and I'll let you know if I'm able to find anything else. There are quite a few Zellers buried in Salem Heller cemetery, including a John born in 1829.
Thanks.

I couldn't make out the name in the records I found, but it definitely wasn't Deary. However, I found another Emma Muckel (b. 1872), who was the daughter of Elam and Susanna (Zellers), my g g grandparents. I have more information on this family if you're interested.

It also states that Emma died in 1946. Their daughter Agnes died in 1949. Their other daughter Dorothy(my grandmother) died in 1996. That is all the information I have come across. I hope this helps.
The Emma MUCKEL (b. 1864) in my family line was the daughter of Isaac MUCKEL (b. 1838) and Catharine (b. 1840). Isaac was the son of Benjamin MUCKEL (b. 1791) and Mary (b. 1800). Emma had 3 brothers: Benjamin (b. 1862), Israel, (b. 1866 ) and Isaac (b. 1870), and 2 sisters, Mary (b. 1868) and Luetta (b. 1877).

I don't know if this is the Emma you're looking for, but as of yet I haven't come across any others in PA in that time frame. Do you have Edward's death certificate? If so, where is he buried
