Ray, I was wondering if you have anything on Mary Deaton that was married first to a Parlier or Paler and then married Thomas Goodwin in 1910 and had 3 children. My grandfather John Cline gave the following information on the death certificate as father Levi Deaton and mother as Pratlene Prinlof the handwriting is very bad so it could have been Prince. We found Levi Deaton married to Meadora Prince in 1870.Ella Mae is on the tombstone shows born 1879 and died 1920. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks Phyllis

Goodwin and she is buried in Aragon, Ga. along with Thomas.
Thanks is advance
Phyllis

I can't help you with your search, but when I noticed the name I had to respond. My father in law was named John Preston Deaton. He was born in Tatum, Texas around 1910. The name coincidence may not be a coincidence!

Van Shears Deaton, MD

Centennial History of Troy, Piqua and Miami County, OH by Thomas C. Harbaugh, pub. 1909
VAN SHEARS DEATON, M. D., is a
prominent member of the medical profession
of Miami County, located at Miami
City, and is one of the foremost citizens
of that locality. Progressive and public
spirited, he has always been closely identified
with the affairs of the community, and
has often been called upon to serve in
offices of high public trust. The Doctor
was born near Addison, in Jackson Township,
Champaign County, Ohio, August 1,
1847, and is a son of Nathan and Sarah
(Scoby) Deaton.
George Deaton, grandfather of the subject
of this sketch, was a resident of Virvinia
and died in that State. He married
Susan Ream, who was born in 1787, and
their offspring were William, Andrew,
Samuel, George, Nathan, Levi, Mary,
Martha and Susan—all deceased but
Susan.
Nathan Deaton was joined in marriage
with Susan Scroby, a daughter of William
Scroby, of Champaign County, and their
children were as follows: Van Shears;
Lydia A., wife of Jason Cutler, of St.
Paul, Kansas; Emory G., who married Ellen
Hackett, and was a neighbor to the
famous John Brown, in Kansas; Emma
D., wife of John McMorran, of St. Paris,
Ohio; William Dyke, who married Mary
Stafford, of New Carlisle; and Charles,
who died in infancy.
Van Shears Deaton became an orphan
at the age of nine years. He was educated
in the public school at Christiansburg and
the Honey Creek school, leaving the latter
in 1864 to enter the army. He served with
credit until near the close of the Civil
War, when he returned to the home farm
of Levi Deaton, in Clark County, Ohio.
He worked on a farm, and for two years
attended school in Lebanon, after which
he engaged in teaching for several years,
at the same time pursuing the study of
medicine under Dr. Jonathan Thatcher, of
Alcony. He taught the Hickory Grove
School in Bethel Township, Miami County,
two terms, and in Elizabeth Township two
terms. He was graduated from the Cincinnati
College of Medicine and Surgery
in 1873, after a three years' course, and
immediately thereafter engaged in practice
at Addison, where he continued for
a period of four years. He then moved
to Miami City, or Alcony Postoffice, where
he has been engaged successfully in practice
for thirty-one years. He is a thorough
student and has kept abreast the rapid advancement
made in the science of medicine,
and has met with good results in the
treatment of the many complicated cases
which have come under his care during his
long practice here. Although his profession
has always been first and foremost
with him, he has given much of his time
to public service. He was coroner of Miami
County two years; justice of the peace
six years; a member of the Board of Education
under the old law for sixteen years;
and a member of the State Legislature
two terms, from 1894 until 1898, serving
during his second term as chairman of
the Committee on Common Schools. He
has been a member of the Board of Education
four years under the new law, and
is serving his second term as president of
that body. He is now president of the
Board of Pension Examiners, and formerly
was a member of that board for four
years during the administration of President
Harrison. In addition to his property
in Miami City, Dr. Deaton is the
owner of a fine farm of 115 acres in Pike
Township, Clark County, farmed by his
son, Ross.
Van Shears Deaton was married March
6, 1873, to Miss Laura E. Shidaker, daughter
of Henry and Elizabeth Shidaker, of
Elizabeth Township, and they have two
children: C. Ross, who married Loretta
Moses, daughter of the late Samuel Moses,
of Champaign County, by whom he has a
son, Cecil Aquila, named in honor of Gen.
Aquila Wiley, of Wayne County; and Dr.
Ernest Heber Deaton, who married Mayme
Deaton, daughter of Thomas Jefferson
Deaton, of St. Louis, and is engaged in
practice in that city. Fraternally the subject
of this record is a member of Casstown
Lodge, I. 0. 0. F., and has passed
through all the chairs of that lodge. He
also is a member of Coleman Post, G. A.
R., at Troy. In politics he is unswerving
in his support of Republican principles.
Dr. and Mrs. Deaton attend the McKendree
Methodist Episcopal Church of Elizabeth
Township.

I am not sure if this is the Elizabeth you are looking for but there is an Elizabeth Deaton (Deyton) in my grandfather's family. She was born in KY around 1847, and her father was William Deaton son of Eldridge Deaton. William also had a brother, Robert. William, Robert and Eldridge were all born in NC. If this is "her "the mother's name is Martha Jane Rose. I have only found Elizabeth mentioned in the 1860 Rockcastle co KY census After that she disappears. For some reason William changed the spelling of the last name from Deyton to Deaton.

missing relative

Around 1928 my grandfather left his home in Catawba County, NC to travel to Texas to find work. He wrote to my grandmother telling her he was working with a survey crew in Texas. They corresponded for a period of about 3-4 years. In his last letter to her he stated that he might be going into Mexico with the crew. He was never heard from again. Attempts to find out what happened to him have been in vain. His name was Parks Bunyan Deaton, born around 1876 in Amity, NC. Wife's name, Anna Carter Deaton. He had some relatives in Texas at the time, but any contact he had with them was prior to his employment and they knew nothing of his whereabouts. The only clue available is that he stopped in a drug store somewhere in Texas on his way and spoke with a friend named Guy Webster, who supposedly owned the drug store. The Texas Vital Records Dept. had nothing on file for anyone by this name. It could be that he died in Mexico, however, the United States Consulate office could not turn up anything either. It seems he just vanished. Am grasping at straws, and found your web site.Any help or suggestions appreciated. Thank you.

Anne Swann
Rt. 5, Box 56
Marion, NC 28752

It really helps the researcher.

I did not find a Martha or Allen/Allan/Alan Taylor in Thurston County in the 1920 or 1930 Census. I did find a Sarah J. Taylor, married to a Joseph B Taylor in Tenino, Thurston County. Did Sarah also marry a Taylor? This Sarah was born about 1876 in Washington to father born in Missouri, mother in Illinois. But, from below, this is probably not who you seek.

From your other postings, I see you are seeking a Sarah C. Deaton, born in Rockcastle, Kentucky, about 1854. This Sarah married a Joseph Reynolds and moved to Missouri, she died early 1890's. In another posting, Sarah did have a sister Martha J. Deaton, born in Kentucky, about 1854.

The Washington Death Certificate Index shows
---Martha J. Taylor, father's name Deaton, died on 17 Oct 1927 in Olympia, Thurston County at age 61 years, 7 months and 7 days (about 1866, March 10).
---Everett Taylor, son of Martha Deaton and Allen Taylor, died 10 May 1947 in Lakeview, Pierce County, WA, at age 51 years, 8 months, and 12 days.
---Mary Elizabeth Patnude, died 28 Feb 1957 in Bremerton, Kitsap County, WA, at age 73 years 6 months and 15 days. Parents Martha Deaton and Allen Taylor
---James Harris Taylor, died 27 Oct 1953, in Ritzville, Adams Co, Washington at age 67 years.
---Allen Taylor, died 20 Nov 1922 in Pleasant/Glade, Thurston Co, WA, at age 69 years, 11 months, 5 days (1853), son of Noah Taylor and mothers name "Thompson". Spouse was "Mrs. Allen Taylor".

One family tree showed 11 children and a picture of her. The owner "OurFamilyStories" was sent a message to read this thread. Unless this person is you, this person has a lot of information on this family.
--There were several others having a family tree that included Martha; but they did not seem to have much information, none had sister Sarah.

Hopefully this "OurFamilyStories" will come on to your rescue for looking for descendants having information.

If not, take the death information provided and obtain the obituaries. The Washington State Library has a free research service, the ask-a-librarian program, where they will look for information in the archives, in this case the newspaper microfilm for an event, such as an obituary. They will look up to an hour and send you the results. Contact them at: http://www.secstate.wa.gov/library/ask.aspx .

Ron Bestrom

Hi, Kim,

The pages are in my storage unit in NC... I'm living in Vegas at the moment. As I recall, they're fairly large, like the size a full sheet of newsprint used to be. When I can get back to NC, I'd be happy to see what I can do about making copies for you. (If I try to send my mother in to look for them, she'll never find them, and the storage unit would be tossed in the process!)

Send me an e-mail (neondiva@yahoo.com), and I'll archive your e-mail address for when I get back east again. And I've just been there (darn it). Returned six days ago. It could be a while before the next trip but I'll keep you in mind for when I do make the journey.

Happy Hunting,

Thea

My grandfather was Charles Sizemore Deaton, of Breathitt Cty. He had two brothers, at the moment I can only remember Ted. Charles' uncle was Dan Deaton, married to Pruda.

There are many more, whom I can't recall at the moment. My mother has been searching for more Deaton relatives and has located a few. And she knows most of the rest of my grandfather's (her father) relatives there, around Buckhorn.

We have photocopies of archived newspapers from Louisville, I believe, taken when the Deatons were arrested (all the males, en masse), during the trial involving the murder of one of the Callahans (sp?). Photos were taken somewhere around 1910? 1915?

Hello....is there anyone on this board with a connection to a Dan Deaton that may have worked as a Coast Guard on the Northern Michigan/Canadian border as a summer job. I have pics dated 1939,1940 and 1943! I would love to share them.
I'm not sure if the connection was to coast guarding, it could be something else as its a story passed down.
I hope to hear from someone, thank you from Mrs. Clement

I just discovered I have W.W. Deaton, wife Mary, who lived in Smith County, Texas in the 1880 Census. They had six children listed: Margaret J., Wesley, Liddie, Ruth, Thomas and John. Census shows that W.W. was born in Tennessee abt 1830 and Mary in Alabama abt 1829. The children were born in Mississippi. W.W. Deaton's dad was born in NC and mom in TN. I was wondering what were the children's names listed for the Wm Deaton you have born in NC. Could possibly be a match.
My contact is zack__20@hotmail.com.
Re: William Deaton/Martha Rose

I don't know if this is your William and Martha, but there is a William Deaton and Martha Jane Rose in the 1860, 1870, and 1880 Rockcastle Co KY census. There is a marriage record for them. There is also quite a bit of information in the family trees section. It seems that about half of this family went to Missouri because three of the boys (George W, James, and William) and two of the married girls(Rebecca Arnold and Martha Jane Taylor) are in the 1900 and 1910 Stone and Barry Co census. Hope this helps.

My great grandfather was Thomas "Depot Tom" Deaton. His son, Alexander Baker Deaton was my mother's father. I have a Wick (Wickliffe) Deaton as being Depot Tom's brother. He was married to Susan Haddix. My grandfather, Alex, also had a brother, Wick, married to Pauline Muncie. Hope this helps. I have a Deaton genealogy that starts with John Buck Deaton and Malinda Watts. I noticed this was posted a long time ago so you may know more than I have now.

I have been searching over thirty years for the family of
Wm Deaton b 1792-1794 in NC. He married a Martha/Patsy (b TN abt.1812)in TN abt.1830 - maybe Bledsoe County. They are in Marion Co. AL in 1850 and 1860 with 13 children. Can only locate my g grandfather, Wiley T. b abt. 1844 d abt. 1881, in 1870 and 1880 in Mississippi. He served in the Civil War. All of Wm Deaton's children were b in AL except eldest, James, who may have been b in TN abt. 1832. In 1860, James was living next door to his parents, married to Elizabeth b in TN abt. 1836, with three children Wm, Mary and Martha. HELP!!HELP!!

My gg grandfather Wm Deaton had a daughter named Martha b abt 1835 in Marion Co., AL. I believe that most people overlook this family as being Deaton because they are indexed as Denton in both the 1850 and 1860 census. On the 1860 census, Wm eldest son, James, is listed as Deaton. I can not see any difference in the way the names are written. I can only locate my g grandfather Wiley T. Deaton in MS in 1870 and 1880. I have know idea where the family went. There were 13 children in total.

I am looking for any Deaton b in Marion Co.,AL between 1835 and 1870. WM Deaton married to Martha/Patsy in TN about 1830 could be the Wm Deaton in Bledsoe Co., TN on the 1830 census. My gg grandparents were in AL on the US 1850 and 1860 census with 13 children. The courthouse was burned in the Civil War. My g grandfather, Wiley T. who served in the Civil War, is married and living in LaFayette Co.,Mississippi on the 1870 and 1880 census. He died about 1881 when my grandfather, John Thomas, was 3. Wiley's wife remarried and moved the family to TX. John Thomas knew nothing about his father's people.

George Pendleton/Pendleton Mayburn Deaton & Dianna

Hello to all! I have been researching our family history and have hit a dead end. My great-great-great-great-grandfather, George Pendleton or George Mayburn Deaton. From the information that I have (which may or may not be correct) he was born in 1836 in North Carolina and died abt 1917 in Missouri. He fought in the Civil War. His wife's name was Dianna (cannot find her maiden name) she also went by Fannie. His son James E Deaton (1863-1943) was the father of Emery(Emry)Deaton (1890-1960) who was the father of James Richard Deaton (1925-2005) who was my grandfather. If anyone has any information of George P./Pendleton M. or his wife Dianna, I would greatly appreciate anything... even if it is just a story that I might extract facts from. In turn, I am willing to share any information that I have as well. Thanks in advance!
Stacey Deaton
