I have photos of Leo and Grace if you'd like them. My wife just got a bunch of information from a cousin in Florida. Once we scan them in I will send them to you. Leo is my wife's great uncle I believe. Her grandfather's brother.

Here is her family tree. She has a great deal to add to it.

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/16714424/family

My wife is a Debo descendant. She has quite a bit of information on the family. The family is from Saint Sauveur France and the original spelling of the name was jeandesboz. According to a letter she has from the 1840s there may have been multiple Debos that came from France together. Her direct line is through Louis Napoleon Jeandesboz.

Here are a some links to the family:
http://gw4.geneanet.org/mohegan?lang=fr;p=louis+napoleon;n=j...

http://archives.cg70.fr/4DCGI/Web_FondsListeRegistres/12249/...

http://www.servancnaute.fr/actes/tab_naiss.php?args=St+Sauve...

Xavier was Napoleon's son:

http://www.servancnaute.fr/actes/acte_naiss.php?xid=265865

Thank you so much for all the info. I know of 2 original Debo's. Xavier and Augustus. They both came from the Alsace Lorraine region of France. I have recently found this out. I know my birth mother was Joan Debo. She had sister's named Judy and Juanita. They have a brother named Charles. Do you know what the correct spelling is? I'm in Columbus, Ohio. I have just found out most of this stuff. I never knew that I was adopted until I accidently found out in my late 20's. What a shock. I was 9 months pregnant with my youngest when my Dad had a stroke. I saw the paper work because he carried it in his wallet and I had to get his registration for his car. Talk about a shock. I just sat and shook. I never told my Mom or Dad that I knew. I was raised mostly around my Mom's family and they were Italian so I thought I was Italian. I should have known that with me having blonde hair and green eyes, that didn't go with the Italians but my Dad was German with blonde hair and blue eyes so I just thought I took after him. Do you know anyone in the Pollard family in Portsmouth. They are relatives too.

I used to live in Portsmouth but I'm in Maryland now. There
are also some Debos from Berea ,Ohio that are related to my dad,Eugene Debo.He was born in 1928.My brother, William Louis Debo, was born in Portsmouth on 9/14/49.He lived there til he joined the Army.He was killed in Viet Nam on 8/11/68.One of his good friends he grew up w/in Portsmouth was a P.Bartlett. The Berea ,Ohio relatives (who are my dad's age)names were Bernie & Bernice, they had like 5 or 6 kids that would all be in their 40's to 50's by now I'm sure.My dad was raised by his grandmother,Ruth Debo. His mom's name was Helen.. I don't think Helen was married when she got pregnant w/my dad.As far as I know my dad is French & Irish. From what I've been told Debo is not the original spelling.Hope this helps a little.

I sent your info to my biological sister that grew up down there. I didn't meet her until a couple of years ago. She knows more about the Debo's. Her name is Barb Russell and she grew up in that town. Are you in Ohio? I do know that my bio grandmother was Grace Hock Debo and my bio grandfather was Leo Debo. It's very possible that we are related. There is another that was adopted like me. He lives in Florida. Barb wasn't adopted. She is just 13 months older than me. There is another family of Debo's that are not related Barb told me. Do you know where your family came from in Europe?

Hello Darrell,
I've been trying to get information on Julia Viola Debo for several years now with no success. In 1887 she married my grandfather, Charles Henry Gray, in Callaway County, MO. They had a daughter in 1888 whom they named Ora Bell Gray and Julia died the same year.
Do you have any information on this family ? I am descended from Charley and his 2nd wife, Ada Crump, but Julia certainly has a place in our family genealogy if I can just learn anything about her.
There is no one left now who knew, or cared, about these people. I am hoping you may be able to help me.
You were writing a Debo family history, how did that go ? Did you finish it ? Writing has been my career and I'm always interested in other's efforts. Are you selling copies locally ?
I'm hoping you are still out there somewhere, it's been nearly 10 years since your posting, but I just found it.
Hoping to hear from you,
June Gray
Please answer to my personal e-mail since I seldom get the time to search the boards anymore. chachipup@yahoo.com

I am trying to locate a long past member of my family, Julia Viola Debo. All I know about her is her birthdate...29 Aug 1864, probably somewhere in Callaway Co. Missouri. She married Charley H. Gray, 24 Mar 1887. Their baby girl, Ora Bell Gray, was born the following year and Julia died also in 1888.
Charley's mother may have been Emma Bell which ties in with Ora's name. I've never found any other information than that on Charley's mother but his father was William Gray.
Ora grew up & married Fred Christopher. They had a daughter named Mildred Bell Christopher. I'd really like to get in touch with any members of this family to share information & learn more about the family. Charley was my grandfather with his 2nd wife, Ada Crump.
Thanks in advance for any help.
I've been looking for information on Julia Viola Debo,
b.1864. Julia married Charley Gray in Mar 1887. Their daughter, Ora Bell was born in 1888 & Julia died the same year. Charley married Ada Crump in 1900 who became my grandmother. Another Debo, Sarah Ann, married Rev. Zachariah Jones, another relative of mine, in 1890. The above is all the information I have come up with in 3 years.
Could you help me out on these ladies? I'd like to know their families, where they lived, if they knew each other. I'd sure appreciate any help.

Thanks, June Gray chachipup@yahoo.com

Debo: Edward Franklin Debo

Two obituaries for Edward Franklin Debo:

"Edward Debo, well known and lifelong resident of this vicinity, died at the home of his son, Joseph Debo, Port Clinton, at 1:30 this morning. Mr. Debo was 77 years of age and had been in ill health for several years. He is survived by his widow and three children, Mrs. Kellogg Smith, West Main street, Edward Debo, Castalia, and Joseph Debo of Clyde and several grandchildren."

(not sure what paper that was in, possible Bellevue Ohio.)

And, from Port Clinton Ohio paper:

"Aged Man Dead of Heart Trouble
E.F.DeBeau Passed Away Thursday Morning in Home of Son

Edward F. DeBeau, 78, passed away early this morning, January 22, 1931, in the home of his son Joseph DeBeau, State street. Heart trouble was the cause of death, life expiring at 1:30.

Edward Franklin DeBeau was the son of Octave and Janette (Barney) DeBeau. He was born in Franklin county, New York, October 2, 1852, in which state he resided until seventeen years old when he came to Ohio. He followed the occupation of timberman, and sailor, being a well known captain on the Great Lakes. With his family he made his home in the rural community near Castalia, Mr. DeBeau retiring about five years ago.

The day of the funeral has not yet been set, when short services are to be held from the home of the son here, after which the remains will be taken to Castalia for services in the church there. Interment will be made in Two-Cemeteries [sic. but surely meant to be Tews] midway between Castalia and Clyde.

Besides the aged wife who was formerly Jennie Torkette*, of New York state, Mr. DeBeau is survived by two sons, Joseph, of this place, Edward F.,Clyde, and one daughter, Mrs. A.K. Smith, Bellevue; twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Delbert of Clyde and Leon, of Chicago.

*Genvieve Torquette

I have been trying to locate Julia Viola Debo for a couple of years with no success. She lived in/or near Callaway County, MO, in the late 1800's(possible birth date--1866)She married my g-grandfather(Charles Henry Gray) in Mar 1887. The two had one daughter, Ora Bell, and Julia died the following year.
I found her on the 1880 MO census as living with John Haustin as head of family and Sarah A. Debo as her mother. There were three other children listed, Manda Debo, John Debo & John Franklin Debo.
That is where my efforts start & end. There is no family left but me and I didn't ask the right questions at the right time.
I have information on Ora Bell (although, not much) but beyond basics, there doesn't seem to be anything else but what I have above. I know there are a number of Debos living near here but none of the ones I have contacted know anything either.
How is your book coming? I also am a writer and know the difficulties of producing a book. It can be discouraging but if you know and love your subject, it is worthwhile. Anything in there about these Missouri Debos? I would certainly appreciate any help you can give me.
Thanks so much
June Gray chachipup@yahoo.com

Rumor has it that he (William) ran away from home when he was a young man. Would never talk about his family. Did know he had at least 1 older brother. Thanks!!

If he was born in 1769, who are they talking about? Isn't Philip his father. Also, it said that Michael Jr. was a Lieutenant, U.S. Cavalry service during the Mexican War.
Dear Judy:
Noticed your message on the message boards re Jacob and Katharine Saunders, who married Michael Debo, Sr. I had been unable to determine who the Jacob Saunders, surety on the marriage bond, was, and thought perhaps it might be her father. Michael (Mike) was my great-great-great-grandfather, and I have most available records on the Debos from the time they landed in Philadelphia in 1732. I'm writing a history of the family, but it has been going slow of late. I have never been able to determine which Saunders family Katharine was a part of since there are several families by that name in Bedford and Pittsylvania counties, Virginia, where they settled. I do know that the Debos, Rohrers, Criders, Saunders, etc. all came from Lancaster (Lebanon) County, PA down the Shenandoah Valley whence they settled in Pittsylvania County, VA. The Debos first purchased property in that county in 1788. I'm almost sure that Jacob, Katharine, and Henry were not Daniel Green Saunders' group since I have most of Daniel Green's children. If you ever find out who Katharine and Jacob's father and mother were, be sure and let me know. I've searched for many years and have not been successful yet.
Darrell Debo (darrelldebo@thegateway.net)

Michael Debo/ Katherine Saunders/Jacob Saunders

Jacob Saunders who was surety or bondsman for the marriage of Katherine (Catherine) Saunders to Michael Debo was her brother. I have a copy of a letter which their brother Henry, then in Shelby County, Indiana, wrote in German to Jacob Saunders/Sanders in Williamson County, Illinois, 1844, calling Katherine "Siesal Kadie" and mentioning that Meik Debo was dead. I am still searching for the parents and additional siblings of these three - a missing Georg(e) and probably Daniel Green Saunders. Jacob Saunders/Sanders is my great-great-great-great-grandfather.
